Change to Suite benefits? Haven vs Suites

I was just checking on NCL for amenities for Suites and then Haven accommodations.

On the Suites page it does not list "invitation to specialty breakfast and lunch dining". It is only listed on The Haven page.

Are they cutting back on Suites benefits to try and get more bookings in The Haven?

We are booked in a Deluxe Penthouse Suite with Large Balcony. Not sure what we can expect this time as a Suite Traveler on NCL with all the recent changes.

I just noticed this as well. I wonder if they accidently left it off or if its a change. I called NCL and she did not know what I was talking about. She said you can eat at the restaurant if you are in a Suite with all this changes I never know what to expect.

I would think this is just an oversight. I mean for some of the suites (i.e. Family Suite) the only difference is layout is access to the Haven, right? I can't imagine that one could have an identical suite and not have access to Cagney's for breakfast and lunch. If that is confirmed I'm sure the outcry will be HUGE! That's such an important reason that people pay so much more for a suite.

Sun, Star, Sky and Dawn have no haven. New ships all suites are haven. Sure it is just an error on the website.[/QUOTe]

Jewel, Jade, Gem, Pearl are not "all suites Haven". These ships have Haven and have some suites which do not feature Haven access, but otherwise enjoy all other suite pekrs including breakfast/lunch in Moderno/Cagney's.

I was on the pearl this week (got off the ship today 11/7) and had an owners suite which was a suite but not a Haven... I didn't notice any difference except we did not have access to the Haven area. We had priority boarding via the VIP lounge, priority tendering and priority debarkation... we had champagne and fruit basket in the suite, we had two "treats" delivered every day... and we had lunch and breakfast each day in Cagneys.. also priority seating area in the theater....

I hope you mistyped your post - owners suites on Jewel class ships are supposed to get Haven access - you typed "did not have access". We have been on the Gem in an owners suite and had Haven access - no questions asked. I also hope I just didn't burst your bubble from your cruise - you were supposed to get access to the Haven - we love the Haven on Jewel class ships.

I'm confused by your terminology of how you had "an owners suite which was a suite but not a Haven..." - and then you mention you had access to the Haven.

On the Pearl, the Owners Suites ARE "Haven Suites", although they are not physically located in within the Haven itself.

Only "Haven Suites" have access to the Haven area, regardless of where they are located on the ships.

There are other non-Haven "suites", and those do not have access to the Haven area.

I know. I just listed some ships have no Haven some are all Haven. Of course, Jewel class have both, as I well know as the Jewel was my last cruise and I prefer aft suites with larger balconies that is what I mostly choose.

Thanks for the assist in clarifying for others.

We were told that only "Haven" suites had access to the Haven area like the private Haven sundeck, also the Haven key cards were different and specifically said Haven on them... it really wouldn't have mattered... Also, our key cards didn't work - we tried them, lol.

Also, when you are booking a cabin on the Pearl, it specifically states that Haven suites have "exclusive access to The Haven Courtyard, restaurant and bar as well as premium in-suite amenities and extras." That is NOT listed under the regular "suites"....

Haven Suites: "Suites in The Haven feature 24-hour butler service, concierge service, exclusive access to The Haven Courtyard, restaurant and bar as well as premium in-suite amenities and extras."

Regular Suites: "Our spacious Suites feature include luxurious indulgences like fine linens, butler and concierge service, and private balconies."

Also, to be clear, we booked the "Aft Penthouse with Large Balcony"... it isn't called an Owner's Suite on the website - there are no "regular" suites called an Owner's Suite on the website but there are Haven Owner's Suites... However when we got on the ship they were calling it an Owner's Suite and said that is what it was. That topic came up because we were told only Haven guests could have breakfast/lunch in Cagneys and i was like uhh no I don't think so... and when they pulled up our cabin they said "Oh no you aren't in a regular suite you are in an Owner's Suite, don't sell yourself short, that is an Owner's Suite".....

Not on this cruise but I never asked why since we had the free liquor package anyway....

"THEY" had no idea what they were talking about. Who was "THEY"? You had a category SF aft penthouse suite, not an owner's suite. All suites with Haven access have a category code that starts with the letter "H". Suites without Haven access such as yours have category codes that start with "S".

And your category suite doesn't get the free bottles of liquor that were mentioned.

Yes I never claimed I had or expected access to the Haven as I wasn't in a Haven suite.

"They" started with the woman at the customer service desk as I had an inquiry about something. I told her I had a "regular suite" and she seemed confused. She asked me for my cabin number and she pulled it up and said "That is an owner's suite so yes you do have _________".... Several minutes later, I went to the restaurant counter in the atrium and said "As a suite guest, is there somewhere particular we can have lunch aside from the regular options?" Her response "Only if you are in an owner's suite, villa or haven suite"... My response: "I'm just in a regular aft suite, but I thought all suite guests could have lunch in Cagneys?" Her response "Only for owner's suite, villa or haven... let me have your room number..."... I gave her the room number and she said "That room is an owner's suite, don't sell yourself short, you are in an owner's suite".... Additionally, the sign at Cagneys for lunch and breakfast and the priority seating area in the theater said the benefit was for "Owners, Villa and Haven Suites Only".... We also had drinks with the concierge on evening and talked about the difference between Haven etc and she said that the AFT Suites are considered owner's suites for their purposes on the ship... You may notice that there are no "Owner's Suites" listed under "Suites" to book on the pearl, only under Haven....

I've sailed 30+ times, I know the difference between an owner's suite and a regular suite and a regular cabin, I'm simply repeating what was my experience during the entire length of my voyage on the pearl.... We were told on more than 6+ occasions that the cabin is an Owner's Suite even though it isn't titled that way on the website....

Sounds like you spoke to a bunch of totally clueless crew members. It doesn't surprise me that someone at guest services wouldn't know what they're talking about, but for the concierge to say that is just mind boggling. I wonder if the concierge was someone who was a temporary fill in rather than one of the regulars.

Technically you shouldn't have had access to the special seating area in the theater either , but some concierges let any suite guest sit there as long as it isn't crowded...which it usually isn't because the seats aren't very good.

I've never seen a sign at Cagney's similar to the one at the theater, but I've never been on the Pearl.

Well don't lose any sleep over it we didn't go to any shows in the theater so we didn't take up any valuable seats that you might think we weren't entitled to :). The exact same sign was in front of the restaurant each day for lunch and breakfast and it specifically said Owners, Villa and Haven... Next time I'll be sure to get the name of all the countless clueless staff so you can be sure to follow up with them and correct them... Regardless of your experience, this was ours. Oh and no it wasn't a temporary concierge either it was the regular one who was delightful and from what I've heard from others experience, is a really great one.

Well, I have to say that is one of the oddest things I've heard and is definitely Pearl specific.

We've been on Jewel class ships many times in various levels of suites and the SF suites were never referred to as Owner's Suites. They used to be called (I think) Romance Suites. All suites (on Jewel class) are supposed to receive the breakfast and lunch in Cagney's or Moderno's. And only Haven suites have Haven access and designated seating in the theater. This would also include the Forward Owner's Suites which are not in the Haven.

The only thing I can think of is that for some reason on the Pearl they started calling all the suites Owner's Suites so that they are not confused with Mini-suites.

As I said though this is really strange.

Were you able to go to the Suites check-in for Embarcation?

I'm in an aft penthouse on the Jewel in December. I just got my luggage tags in the mail along with a "welcome aboard" brochure that outlines the amenities.

Here is what it says on page 15:

"Every day of your cruise, all Suites guests are invited to complimentary breakfast and lunch in a private restaurant."

See PDF attached.

Maybe all the confusion lies in the difference between the old and new ships. For example, if you go to book a cruise on the Breakaway... you'll see it jumps from mini-suite to Haven Suites. What is a penthouse on the Jewel and Pearl ships is a Haven Penthouse Suite on the "away" ships. Plus, the Haven on the newer ships have their own Haven restaurant. They don't use Cagney's or Moderno. At least that's how I'm reading it.

Perhaps... and actually there was confusion at check in as well... we've sailed in suites before and so we knew to go to that priority check in room... but when we got there, the woman at the door stopped us and told us that we had to go to the regular check in... I even told her look we have a suite... and she said no you have to go to the gold/platinum line to check in... so... I didn't really push the issue since I wasn't sure what was going on with Haven - I actually didn't even realize they had added Haven suites to the Pearl - so, we went to the Gold/Platinum line and after standing there in line when we got up to the front the woman pulled us up and specifically said "oh no you are in an owners suite you are supposed to be in the lounge" - I told her we had gone there and had been turned away and told to come here and she said oh no thats definitely not right and she escorted us back to the lounge... when we got back to the lounge again the woman at the door tried to stop us again and the women who had escorted us over told her she was wrong and complained to the more senior woman at the desk inside the lounge.. they were very apologetic and as we were checking in another couple was escorted in who had also been turned away at the door and went to regular check in and had been brought back... so there definitely seemed to be a lot of confusion...

Again, I never originally thought I had booked an "owners suite"... I booked over a year ago and mostly just wanted an AFT balcony and the cabin was available at a great price... I don't recall that Haven was listed when I booked, maybe it was and the price was just a lot higher so I ignored it... I went in a few weeks ago to see if there was anything I might be interested in and saw the Haven cabins at that time but they were all sold out...

It was really once I got on the ship and that several crew in the atrium customer service areas started saying that it WAS an owners suite and that I should stop selling myself short that I was like hmm okay... I mean literally that's what they said "you are in an owners suite, stop selling yourself short"...

Regardless, the point of this whole thing was to state what perks we had even though we were not in Haven :)
