We are happy to see the dress code changed, especially for a long cruise with a land portion beforehand. It eliminates our suit bag that contained my husbands nice suit and ties, and my 2 nice cocktail style dresses. We aren't sure exactly what he will wear on "Sophisticated Chic" nights as he does not plan on bringing a jacket (too much suitcase space as well as too heavy - he is 6-2). He usually wears nice polo shirts to dinner with Dockers. He does have striped dress shirts that he could wear. The polos are not the golf type fabric, but the pique fabric with smaller stripes. I usually wear a nice top, some with silver threads in them over black pants. My dressier tops should work fine for the "Chic" nights. We have never worn shorts to the MDR, nor plan to start. I don't even wear capris to the MDR as I feel they are not nice enough for dinner. We dress for casual nights like we do for going to Morton's or Capital Grille.

I frankly am not happy with the designer jeans being suggested as something to wear on the "Sophisticated Chic" nights as to me all jeans are casual wear only. I think this will be abused.

Cant beat the Brits [emoji41]. Long live Queen Victoria [emoji33]

Mind you we did invent the Dinner Suit so why not flaunt it [emoji33]

I'll leave that in your hands to carry the baton...

Personally I'll be wearing jeans... Hopefully I won't upset too many people [emoji23]

948 people (or thereabouts) have voted so far and that doesn't even make up the passenger count for one sailing.

I guess Cruise Critic (or at least those taking the time to vote/comment/support/express outrage) make up a very small amount of the passenger pool.

Just got off Silhouette. Passengers are still dressing up. I saw many tuxedos and formal gowns. No one was trying to push the dress code just yet. There was no talk of the change in dress code from the ship's personnel or amongst the passengers. I thought for sure it would be discussed at the casino table at one of the formal nights, but it was never mentioned.

I could not vote using any of 3 iPads, none of which use an app to access Cruise Critic. I can vote using my iMac pro.

I also cannot change the page at the top using any of our iPads. The links are there, as are the options to vote & view poll results, but they do not work, and have not for many months.

So, iPad users are worth 1/4 of a person? That seems wrong.

I rather doubt that increasing the sample size would change the results. I'm fairly certain that Celebrity would not make such a change without conducting their own polls/surveys to make sure that you're doing what your clientele desires.

Haha -baton carrying is my speciality . like most men I like to dress casually however like Mr_T, I dress as the Boss Lady dictates

Also like Tony , I enjoy my boat trips without worrying too much about what others may be wearing.

I trust the said Jeans are Emirates design Mr_T ???[emoji33]

We are just returning to Celebrity for our next cruise next week. We haven't cruised with them since an Eastern Med trip on the Solstice in summer of 2009.

We will be trying out the Aqua class on the Reflection. Sounded unique and interesting.

We cruise 5 or 6 times a year. We really enjoy the cruising experience. Most of the time here in Texas when we go out we dress in what Celebrity is calling Chic Casual. Here in Texas we call it shirt and jeans. That is not why we cruise. Sorry to see Celebrity going in this direction but it makes sense. To attract more passengers they feel they need to lower the bar. Completely understandable. Just not what we are looking for. Don't need to spend $500 a night to do that.

They have survived without us for 6 years and I expect they will continue to survive without us for another 6 after this cruise, unless we are blown away by Aqua class. Given the reviews on this site, that does not appear likely.

But as everyone on this site knows, there is no such thing as a bad cruise. But there are better choices.

What company have you been cruising with for your last 30-40 cruises?

I assume they still have a strict dress code....

As I said in one of the these threads, most passengers don't read the material that the cruise line provides on dress code or the cruise contract. Those who don't follow cruise critic will probably go on dressing how they dressed in the past so we may not see the complete roll out of Evening Chic for a while. We are driving to port on our next sailing so we will probably pack at least one formal outfit each and play it by ear once we are on the ship.

Cunard is by far our favorite. This year we have sailed on Cunard Queen Victoria, Seabourn, Crystal, RCL Quantum. Radiance class ships on RCL are spotty but at times great deals.

Will be doing Crystal again right after the Reflection. Change ships in Miami. We just got off the QV a couple weeks ago, we had 5 formal nights in 17 days. Loved it. Best cruise in years.

Does this help?

Hasn't Crystal always had a "Black Tie Optional" dress code? Even Cunard doesn't insist on anything more than a tie anymore on formal night do they?

Quite right, but in our experience most of our fellow passengers were at least semi-formal if not formal on the designated nights. Gives the evening a much more interesting and enjoyable tone to the evening for us.

Not the case the last time we were on Celebrity. It's been a while since we tried Celebrity so we wanted to check in and see for ourselves how they have changed. Reading reviews on this site would suggest we will be disappointed.

We have had better experiences on RCL than X, and I know they are owned by the same company.

Just seems that X targets itself to the casual club crowd. Again, that's fine, just not us.

I understand. Haven't sailed Royal for a long time, dumb question, have they also banned smoking at bars and such? Last time our favourite pub go so smoky at night we couldn't use it.

Smoking only in designated portions of the casino and limited outdoor areas.

When you log into CC web site using the iPad the screen is exactly the same as the PC. Using tapatalk app you can go to any page of the discussion but you just see the posts not the overall page.

Seapals2, same experience for me. I was wondering if it is a setting on my IPad. Just to confirm you can go directly into CC (no AP) and you can vote (once) and change the page number at the top? In our case we cannot vote and have to go to the page numbers at the bottom. If true for you do you have any idea of what IPad setting we might have wrong?

Thanks.

Using an Apple iPad and Google search to get to CC web site then everything is as on the PC. Can't think of any iPad setting that might effect the CC web site once you have logged in.

When I use the iPad I do find tapatalk more convenient most of the time and wouldn't normally bother logging in the CC web page but for the poll to be of use to you I don't think there is an alternative.

Hope this helps.

I voted "I don't care " because , wait for it , I don't care what others wear . I usually take a suit but might just take a jacket . Jettisoning a tie will be the next step down my personal road to slovenly attire . :D

Like many (most ?) of you , there isn't a single restaurant near me where one is obliged to dress up.

Just out of interest I work for the NHS here in the UK . Tomorrow we are holding a ' Dress Down Day ' . Basically this is a free for all day and staff will be allowed to turn up for work in anything they want - ripped jeans , trainers with knee length white socks , baseball caps , sleeveless tops , cheeky sun dresses , cowboy hats etc . Not one tie will be seen on this day . In return we are asked to make a donation to a charity for the Homeless and down and outs .

How about a similar thing on the new Evening Chic Nights ? Seems to me that a decent collection could be raised !

Only joking folks ...

Maybe the folks in Aqua and Suites could dress down on a given night and donate to us riff raff in the MDR.

Again, I am joking before those with a sense of humour bypass give themselves apoplexy in their rants.
