Ken at the beach Posted November 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2015 Update. Freedom sand Enchantment should be getting VOOM internet added by May 1, 2016 at the latest as they have been included in Royals latest promo that offers free VOOM internet on select ships. Thanks Matt for the above information.

Merion_Mom Posted November 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2015 Thanks Ken. I saw that promo and wondered how they were going to pull it off but I guess they don't need a dry dock to do it. We're on Freedom May 8th. They bring an IT work crew on board who do the installation while the ship sails. :)
Royal2464 Posted November 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2015 I was on the Freedom last month and the Hotel Director indicated they were hopeful the Internet upgrade should be completed by sometime in February.
Cruisingthesuitelife Posted November 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2015 I'm on Freedom at the moment and the WIFI seems absolutely fine to me. I'm on deck 10 in my cabin. Had zero issues connecting or maintaining connection. Perhaps I am just lucky!!
Rare John&LaLa Posted November 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2015 I was on Freedom in June and found internet more than adequate. Enchantment, on the other hand was awful.
Big_G Posted November 12, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 12, 2015 Maybe right now it's about location on the ship. Although we could not Facetime, the speed wasn't horrendous and we were also on Deck 10 back in 2014. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk We were in an Aft JS 7712, not very good on balcony, but fine in cabin. I just used it to post a live review. No video streaming. Maybe that's the complaint. loeytalldog Posted November 12, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 12, 2015 We were on FOS in July, Deck 10 and the internet was awful, we could barely get on our email. We were told one of the reasons besides being outdated wiring, is that when there are a lot of kids on board that have iphones, they stay connected the entire cruise which takes away bandwidth. DrD Posted February 2, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2016 I was on the Freedom last month and the Hotel Director indicated they were hopeful the Internet upgrade should be completed by sometime in February. Yes! Any update on this? It's be great if it was available for my upcoming. I'll start asking next month if anyone off the FOS had Voom.
TomAceEsq Posted February 2, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Honestly, I didn't find it that bad last March. It was adequate enough to monitor my dogs via webcam and change train tickets to plane tickets the day before we left.
doones2 Posted February 2, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 2, 2016 What is the price of internet for a 7 day cruise? Do you think the price will go up if FOS has high speed internet?
Clarea Posted February 2, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) What is the price of internet for a 7 day cruise? Do you think the price will go up if FOS has high speed internet? $20 per day for one device, $30 per day for two devices. Ships with Voom have been less expensive. Dett Posted February 2, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) We just got off Freedom on Sunday. We had been on for 3 weeks. We found the Internet much better than we had in the past. We were surprised. Sometimes It would kick me off but always able to get back on. Email was fine. We were pleased with the speed. We were on deck 10 aft. Ernie B Posted February 3, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Do they only offer the weekly internet packages? No more minutes? Thanks!
Ken at the beach Posted February 3, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Do they only offer the weekly internet packages? No more minutes? Thanks! There are no more minute packages available. You can buy 24 hour continuous use packages but the rate is double what it is compared to the daily rate for the weekly packages. Nado44 Posted February 3, 2016 #24 Share Posted February 3, 2016 We were recently on Freedom for two weeks. Deck 6 midship for the first week and Deck 10 midship the second week. Connectivity from Deck 6 was horrendous. Had to walk down to the casino or Promenade to realize optimal connectivity. Connectivity from our cabin on Deck 10 was superb. TBone2K Posted February 3, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 3, 2016 I suspect this upgrade doesn't fix where you can and can't get a connection, but once you are on it will be faster. Is there any technical information on what they actually change to move a ship to Voom? As a network/computer guy, the description sounds to me like all they are doing is changing the "back end". That is, they are connecting the existing infrastructure to a faster internet connection. If they were replacing the access points throughout the ship, it probably wouldn't be happening so fast as it means additional crew on board looking after the installs.
