blueweimer Posted November 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Flying American Airlines to Miami next month (first class). Looks like most airlines abide by the 62 inch size. I am looking at a garment bag that is 62.25 inches? Will they measure it? Will they round down? Am I worrying about nothing? I see for first class it doesn't matter if bag is overweight, but says nothing about size. I don't want to be THAT person or get my bag denied. This is a bag to check, not to take as carryon. klfrodo Posted November 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Does it really matter if I say that I've gotten away with it? The won't decline to accept your luggage. They'll just hit you with fees.
jagoffee Posted November 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 22, 2015 I have never had my checked luggage measured by AA or any other airline. Personally I would not be concerned about it especially since you are flying first class.
TruckerDave Posted November 22, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 22, 2015 You are checking it....they will not notice 1/4 inch. Now if it weighed 100lbs or something....you might have an issue. :p
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 22, 2015 I wouldn't worry about 1/2". Keith

slidergirl Posted November 22, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) At worst, the bag won't be denied, but hit with oversize fees - up to $100 usually. Just curious - which dimension puts you over? Edited November 22, 2015 by slidergirl
snowbirdz Posted November 22, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 22, 2015 American Airlines checked the size of my carry on last year and I had to take stuff out to make it smaller......Still was slightly oversize but they let it go. They make you try to put your carry on into this rack, if it doesn't fit,it's oversized

blueweimer Posted November 23, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted November 23, 2015 slidergirl, it's the width....not sure if I mentioned in original post it's a rolling garment bag by Tumi, it's 25.25 x 24 x 13 inches.
frugaltravel Posted November 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 24, 2015 Just curious - which dimension puts you over? For checked luggage, most airlines just say 62" and are not concerned about the individual dimensions.

kelkel2 Posted December 7, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 7, 2015 I wouldn't worry about a 1/4 inch. I've never had my check baggage measured. I don't think they would even notice that...
