adjusting tips

Might not a better question be: why are so many who don't tip or pay the DSC, so concerned in letting others know?

^This. I firmly believe NCL would never had pulled off that refund policy change if it was not for the posters that keep talking about how and why they remove DSC. Posting on the internet goes both ways too - did it not occurred to some that maybe one day, a cruise line would read the posts to see how they can close a loophole in their own contracts/policies? Heck, we don't even know if they are reading this thread now, to gleam off more information how the policy is working well or badly.

They don't read these boards. Period.

And the policy is working great. Try going on a ship and seeing for yourself.

What loophole are you talking about? From the first hand reports here the process is now much less painful with just requesting the form and then emailing it to NCL after the cruise - no need to make a scene nor explain yourself to a random CSR at the guest services desk trying to convince you to do otherwise. If anything, they made the completely allowed process smoother than it was before.

Because of NCL's computer glitch for the first (and hopefully last) time ever I'm going to use the process (a matter of principle) in January and am happy that it is now easier than before.

<snip>

Rubbish - they do read these boards - many crew at Meet and Greets say they read these boards; NCL used to post occasionally on CC as well.

Any corporation who does not monitor social media nowadays is living in the dark ages. Companies need feedback - some spend megabucks on surveys/focus groups. CC provides a free, informed feedback (free to the company less the cost of employing someone to monitor it).

Exactly. They make more of a mess, use towels, sheets and dishes. So why not tip? Hmmm I never understood this logic that kids don't need to tip as much or at all

Geri

Absolutely they should tip. After they pay the Service Charge. Which isn't a tip.

Lol that is the main reason that I never agree on these posts when someone says " I don't mind paying an increase" or something of that sort.....

I usually say something like..." I've got a rock bottom price, no perks and I like it that way, I don't frequent the specialties nor drink too much as the prices are out of control and won't waste my money, I don't like the free perks because they aren't free.....etc etc etc"

I am also starting to say that I'm not tipping anyone extra in cash as the dsc has gone up too much for me along with the real possibility that if ncl doesn't go back to offering the rock bottom deals I've gotten on my last 2 pre FDR cruises I'm going elsewhere

Heck if I have to pay lots more and I'm still interested in cruising I might as well see what rccl has to offer... Their new ship from port Liberty looks amazing

The ncl ba wasn't all that great... It was nice but not awesome thanks to the pool the casino and the atrium layouts.

Hopefully the dsc will become mandatory soon

Well of course because being forced to do things is the way we are being brainwashed into thinking these days

As an educated Doctor you should understand that freedom of choice is something we must deeply cherish and hold on to at all cost. Even when it comes down to the minuscule in life... Like cruise ship service charges

So for a 7 night Escape cruise if we get great service I was planning on giving the cabin steward an extra $70 cash on top of the service fee for my mom, my son and me. Is this add'l cash amount in the range of what others leave?

What is funny is that my mother is a neurotic clean freak and travels with travel size cleaning kits everywhere she goes - this room steward will not have much to do as she even makes the beds and cleans the bathroom each morning and night. On the first day of the cruise I will have to leave the door open as that is full can of Lysol day

I would leave $20 or $30 for a 7 night for the 2 of you

I left $70 last cruise for a 12 night for the 3 of us

NCL is a product and we're the consumers. Freedom of choice empowers us to either buy the product or not. That's it - end of story. If there was a far superior product out there that presented greater value, I suspect there'd be fewer people hanging around this forum griping about this specific product. They would have already jumped ship.

I think that person was part of the cuts, hasn't been seen for almost as long as Kevin Sheehan on these boards. It's sad. It is free access to customer feedback.

Just because they don't comment doesn't mean they aren't reading. It means they are smart enough to just read what we say but still be undetected. Lol

If they aren't reading these boards I would be very surprised. They are reading but just going stealth

I was commenting more about the good doctor than I was about ncl

I guess you don't follow motley fan?

He is a real character and fun to read IMHO. He never ceases to amaze. He's all over YouTube but I keep forgetting his stage name there. Anyone?

They last posted on September 18th 2015 (ironically about discretionary service charges!)
