Stupid question (don't judge)

Recommended Posts

So when we go on our very first cruise this coming March, we will be stopping in labadee, San Juan, st. Kitts, and St. Marteen. I will be spending my birthday in Labadee and I want to be able to connect with all my family and friends but don't wanna spend money on wifi on the ship. Is there like a Dunkin donuts or Starbucks where I can get coffee and wifi? What about the other ports that I'm going to? TIA!!

Labadee is Royal Caribbean's private island. It is actually a part of Haiti. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ports/group/home.do?portCode=LAB

As something that was privately developed by RCCL, Labadee is not going to have commercial businesses that are not owned by RCCL or affiliated with them. However, there are some shops and a customs house. Here is the map of Labadee: http://cdn.aboutcruiseships.com/2013/07/map-of-Labadee.jpg We were last there in May and there was no internet available on Labadee.

On your other stops, there will be internet in the port buildings which is usually free. There are also some Starbucks and other internet cafes on these other islands.

I have seen crew members using WI FI on labtops in port. I would ask them where they use it in these ports.

It's almost certainly tied to the ship or via a celluar connection, or its possible they have a private connection set up locally. A typical scan for available connections will probably reveal nothing or secured connections.

I would just explain before hand to your family and friends that you won't have wifi access on your birthday but if they want to reach you on that day they can call you on the ship and leave you a message ;) or give you a card prior to your trip that you would open on your birthday and you will reach them by FB or email while at your next port.
