mariojmtz Posted December 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2015 We have never brought a suit for any of our NCL cruises. The only thing they require in the Venetian main dining and Le Bistro is that they require pants. Don't think it matters what kind. We have seen jeans in both. Brought suits on both Carnival and Princess for the formal nights.
cmdchiefthom Posted December 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2015 I stopped bringing a suit or tux years ago when I decided to embrace the Freestyle concept, and never looked back. I still pack a crushable sport coat, but I just don't feel the need to dress up anymore aboard NCL's ships.;)
casofilia Posted December 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2015 I normally will not wear anything other than shorts with a simple shirt, shoes and long socks. But I do have a suit with me for when my wife and I want to feel special. Mike

Cruise_More_Often Posted December 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2015 Surprise! Holland America no longer requires a suit, even on Gala nights -- a collared shirt and slacks will suffice

Barb Nahoumi Posted December 20, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2015 Neither does RCI. My husband won't bring suites, but he will wear dress pants and collared shirts for dinner. No skirts or dresses for me either. Just slacks, capris and nice tops. Most of our cruises are on NCL.
zqvol Posted December 20, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 20, 2015 I there a cruise line that does not necessitate suit? NCL, Carnival, Reagent, Sea Dream, RCCL, Silversea, and I could go on and on. It might be better to ask which lines absolutely require a suit.
Sauer-kraut Posted December 20, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 20, 2015 NCL, Carnival, Reagent, Sea Dream, RCCL, Silversea, and I could go on and on. Rare BirdTravels Posted December 20, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 20, 2015 The answer would be Cunard. We're platinum members on Cunard. A suit is not required. But, there are ample opportunities where you can wear one. For that matter, a suit is not required on NCL. But I always carry one. And there are ample opportunities to wear one. don't-use-real-name Posted December 21, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Simply put - "SMART CASUAL" is the new Tuxedo Formal ! Dressy UP is no longer required unless perchance you are offered a dinner table with the Captain.
sixesandeights Posted December 21, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 21, 2015 I there a cruise line that does not necessitate suit? Technically a suit is not needed on most mainstream lines. On NCL long pants are even optional. You can eat in almost every restaurant in shorts. The only exceptions are Le Bistro (French specialty) and the Manhattan Room (more formal MDR). Shorts are 100% allowed and acceptable everywhere else. There are also no formal nights on NCL. This laid back dress code is a huge selling point for NCL IMHO. 6&
Lakesregion Posted December 21, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Great line for those wishing to travel with just a small gym bag that holds two "T"s, flip flops and a pair of shorts. One can go commando so no need for undies.
