Riviera casino

I suspect that this Casino is like all other Casinos - in the business of making rather than paying out money :D (I guess the odds of winning though may vary).

Yes but, if you're going to take my money at least make the experience fun. ;)

How exactly? Show girls, circus acts, free drinks, better sound effects on the slot machines, Blackjack dealer having to show his/her full hand? :D

In that case even I might gamble :D

Slot machines from this century would be a good start.

LOL - I was stunned when I went in the casino. they are pretty old machines. It took me a few seconds to realize that I couldn't insert my key card.:p

Let's face it, it would not be a good business decision to pay big license fee's for newfangled machines on a ship when you can't exactly walk down the street to the next casino if the machines bore you.

The Gamblers will gamble, regardless, and the Casino companies know it, so there isn't any need to bait the hook with lobster when tilapia will catch as many fish.

It's all meant to be a diversion, anyway:

an activity that diverts the mind from tedious or serious concerns; a recreation or pastime, as in

"our chief diversion was playing slot machines in the Casino"

synonyms: entertainment, amusement, pastime, delight, divertissement

Don't know the last time you were on an O ship, but I've spent over 50 days on the Riviera in the last year, and the casino is always a ghost town. Perhaps if they would put a little more exciting machines in there people would actually play them, even if they were losing.

I like to gamble, just got back from 2 nights at a local casino, where I spent many hours at the blackjack table as well as the slot machines, but I didn't spend over 50 bucks in the Oceania casino, so no, gamblers aren't going to gamble, regardless. Oceania is really missing the boat here.

Actually, Oceania does not operate the Casino's, they are leased out to a third party vendor, which then decides when and how much of an investment each location warrants.

Personally, I would say that the use of the Casino, or lack of same, has more to do with the stratification of the passenger load than with the equipment.

Haven't they recently changed to in house operations? They used to use Century I think but I read about that changing with the NCL merger. Perhaps not. The bottom line is for me personally I would spend more time there if the machines were a little more interesting and the table limits a little lower in the day time. I think if you could fill the tables with people at $5 per hand it would be better than the dealers standing there with no one at $10 a hand. But I probably think too simple, I'm sure they have a reason for having their tables empty the biggest part of the day.

it may depend on the passengers on the cruise

some cruises you cannot get a machine then the next one you have your pick

I was on HAL with lots of updated machines but a lot of them were the 1 cent games

I donated my $20 & never went back

I do not cruise for the casinos but that is just me

I appreciate the comments on the casino. I thought I was joking but I guess I will have to pull the handle by the sound of it. We've not sailed Oceania before but from what I've read on other threads it doesn't sound like the entertainment is great (not really surprising from our experience) so when that is the case and we don't have anything else planned my wife and I like to try our luck in the casino after dinner. Most of our cruising has been on Cunard, their casinos are not great and they are getting smaller to make room for single cabins. However, at least they operate off your ship card which is a lot more convenient. Thanks for all the comments.

(underlining mine)

That is just ONE of the many differences between Cunard and Oceania.

You've got to take the good with the bad (or the bad with the good, as the case may be) :D

You can pull the handle or just push the button ..your choice ;)

I prefer to use cash that way I know how much I donate & not tempted to donate more than need be

I would not rule out the entertainment some people actually enjoy it ..it is subjective of course

Some people enjoy wearing tuxes & ball gowns others do not that is why we choose Oceania ..no formal attire required

Lets see, Cruise ships are for travel on the sea to interesting far away places

Casinos are destinations for gamblers....odds matter you play the odds or let them play you......a 10 deck black jack or 1 deck....

Shows...Go to London, Broadway or Vegas

Casinos at sea.....well captive audience.....unregulated... hmmm...why didI take a cruise????.....

Oh I know..."art auctions and shopping for Tanzanite"
