BobH5849 Posted December 28, 2015 #76 Share Posted December 28, 2015 This reminds me of the airlines charging for luggage and a larger seat and one airline charging to use the toilet. We shall see where these nickel and dime charges lead. If RCCL starts charging for luggage................oh my! My sailing days would be over.
Rare printingchick Posted December 28, 2015 #77 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Maybe I'm not a good survey subject because I have no interest in most of the on-board perks. I cruise for the experience of being at sea and gazing out at the ocean. I love getting to visit so many various ports of call. I love the activities - the music, the shows, the games, mini-golf - but I don't need a lot of the extras, like bumper cars, a boxing ring, a surf-simulator. After over 10 cruises, I still get mesmerized just by looking over the side of the ship and seeing nothing but ocean.

johnjen Posted December 28, 2015 #79 Share Posted December 28, 2015 So let's say if....RCL decides to charge on the other cruise ships for iFly/Northstar....if you book a cruise - even just pay a portion of the total due, and these amenities are listed as free, RCL cannot come back after you've booked a cruise and charge extra for these amenities. But the official word from RCL is - they're not planning on booking extra for these silly little carnival rides on their other ships.

trogmd Posted December 28, 2015 #81 Share Posted December 28, 2015 While I loved my cruise on Anthem I would not have booked this ship at the elevated prices they are charging for these ships if they were going to charge extra for the rides and activities on-board. :(

For example, when we booked Mariner years ago Johnny Rocket's was included in the fare. RCI instituted the charge about 3-4 weeks before we sailed. AND, customer service was telling folks that there was no charge even though people were coming back from cruises on the ship and saying that there was a charge. AND, when I called customer service and asked them and told them what I was reading on Cruise Critic I was told that I shouldn't believe everything that I read on these boards.;)

Well except for the tap water, or are you taking about bottled water, then that too has always cost more. But IFly, and North Star have been free for months, till now. True it is just on the one ship, but I see them testing the waters to see if they can make more. Just like Johnny Rockets was free. Till they decided they can charge more. . Anyway, thought I call up and find what the US operators are telling people. C&A couldn't tell me anything except that the charge exists (after some checking). Thanks. Then I spoke to Cruise Admin after being referred by C&A, and he said he's not going to argue with me, but there's always been a charge on ifly. (So I must be an idiot.) Great work again. Not only are they behaving unethically and trying to rip us off, they can't even explain or justify what they're doing, and some seem to be scrambling for ways to revise history and blame the customer. Failure all round.

Jenjer Posted December 29, 2015 #89 Share Posted December 29, 2015 I would pay for ripcord but not North star. Its pretty slimy to offer something for free advertise it for free then suddenly start over charging for it. We did both for free on Quantum. Loved Rip cord but North star would not be worth it for our family of 4 even at $10 a head that's $40 to stand in line and maybe go up for 10 minutes.....yeah no thanks
papcx Posted December 29, 2015 #90 Share Posted December 29, 2015 I've said it for ages. The call centre workers for cruise lines should read these boards so they have the most up-to-date info.

WaveSplasher Posted December 31, 2015 #92 Share Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) I just got off with the RCL Operator in Singapore. He confirms with me that the North Star is chargeable on all Quantum Class ships while the RIP cord by IFLy along with the bumper cars are free. I asked him if the IFLy was not as popular as the North Star since its not chargeable , but he couldn't give me an answer. I asked him for the price as well, and he doesn't know. I'm not sure whether this is even true... Anyone cruising on the Anthem has to pay for the North Star? The last time i spoke with a singapore RCI operator, he sort of implied that all of his information came from the website  i'll call on Monday and report back on the answer i get. i'm sure i'll get a somewhat different answer. :p
