bluesea777 Posted April 7, 2016 Author #51 Share Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) ... is it still on? Jade is supposed to go into drydock Oct 8 to 23, 2016 for refurbishments but just now I was on NCL.COM to check on pricing, I saw they have added 2 new itineraries for Jade: Oct 8-16, 8 day and Oct 16-23, 7 Day cruises out of Venice. I'd be disappointed if the drydck has been scrapped as I was looking forward to sailing on a "new" ship for the TA in Oct 2016. Anyone? I'm the original OP - I started this thread. Now I take back the comment I said ... We were just on the Pride of America after her drydock/refurbishments and most of the Hawaiian décor has gone away ... so we're looking forward to seeing the JADE again with its Hawaiian glory once more time this coming October, before it disappears in Spring 2017. RMS Olympic Posted April 7, 2016 #52 Share Posted April 7, 2016 I booked a Nov 27 2016 cruise sailing out of Tampa....specifically because she would be fresh after her dry dock. Now this is not the case. My experience with cruise lines is that the 4 to 6 months leading up to a major overhaul things are let go. I guess the thinking is why spend money on things that are going to be trashed during dry dock. I experienced this on Celebrity...the ship was nasty. I sure hope the Jade is ok this November. Rare All-ready2cruise Posted April 7, 2016 #54 Share Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) I really don't think anyone knows what's going on as far as the Jade's drydock goes. I see it scheduled for spring 2017, supposedly before the TA over to Europe, however, my PCC thinks it will be on her return to NA in fall of 2017. Seems we are no further ahead, still guessing. Rare erber Posted April 7, 2016 #55 Share Posted April 7, 2016 I hope it is not spring 2017 as we have a cruise booked for the week of April 9. We shall see what happens. I wonder how long it will be before they reveal when exactly the drydock will be?
Rare erber Posted April 27, 2016 #56 Share Posted April 27, 2016 Below is a link to another cruise critic thread that has information that the Jade dry dock will be March 10 to March 27, 2017. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2349064 Hope this is indeed accurate. Just wanted to put the update into this thread.

Just wanted to put the update into this thread. Given that Jade's last drydock was in Dec. 2011, March 2017 is the outside limits on her drydock date, so this would be the absolute latest. There is no way they could extend to 2018.

cruzeluver Posted April 27, 2016 #60 Share Posted April 27, 2016 Glad I came across this thread. Thanks for starting it! We are thinking of booking Jade for Spring 2017 but may hold off till we know more about this situation. Would be our return to NCL after several years on other lines. The ship and itinerary look great but I sure don't want to book something and then find out it has been cancelled, or that we are on the first cruise post dry dock. holmar12 Posted May 3, 2016 #62 Share Posted May 3, 2016 scheduled for Jade March 12 2017. Called NCL yesterday about dry docking and was told no set date yet but good chance it could be dry docked then. I asked how much notification they will give being i need air to get to Tampa. said they should give 6 months. For you that have had to reschedule is that par for the course. mimi7ccr Posted May 3, 2016 #63 Share Posted May 3, 2016 We have a large group booked on the 4/23-30/2017 out of Tampa on the Jade. I sure hope that won't be cancelled as it would be a huge pain in the A** for our group. Please report any news you know on this. Thanks so much. Rare All-ready2cruise Posted May 3, 2016 #64 Share Posted May 3, 2016 I'm on the April 23rd cruise as well, hope they don't cancel it. How large a group do you have?
mimi7ccr Posted May 4, 2016 #65 Share Posted May 4, 2016 It's a line dance group, and I am an instructor. We hope to have about 60 or 70 dancers in the group, but you will not notice. We will be have private function dancing in one of the lounges daily, probably before dinner each day. So no worries!!

laslomas Posted May 4, 2016 #67 Share Posted May 4, 2016 I just do not understand why something as major as a dry dock / refit for a cruise ship does not seem to be important to the company. Surely they should just make a decision and stick to it!! Why all the faffing about? Are they waiting for a last minute bargain or something?? I am a UK cruiser and I am expected to make a decision (when I book my cruise) and stick to it. I think the cruise line should do the same. I can't cancel on a whim without losing money so when I book my cruise I expect to go on that cruise unless there is a really good reason why not. inability to make a decision is not a good reason in my mind. If I am told 6 months before setting sail that my cruise has been cancelled for a 'planned' refit I could be stuck with flights to Tampa that I cannot change. I try to book flights as soon as possible as the price rises closer to the date. Being offered a choice of other cruises and dates would be of no help unless they were within the dates of my flights. I do not book 'flexible' flights due to the exorbitant costs. I am booked on the Jade in October and for a while there was confusion about a dry dock then. I feel really sorry for novice cruisers who get caught up in this kind of mess. Please just choose a date, tell the customers when it is and stick to it. chengkp75 Posted May 4, 2016 #68 Share Posted May 4, 2016 Several things have to come together to make a shipyard work. 1. There has to be a drydock slot available for the dates wanted, and for the length of time required to do the drydock work, with not too long of a low revenue repositioning required, and not too long a deadhead from the last passenger port to the shipyard. While the limited spots in the world's drydocks are typically booked a year in advance, both the shipyard and the owner may have difficulties that require rescheduling and this then shuffles the following two conditions around again. 2. Ensuring that the hundreds of tons of materials required to complete the work are available, and that they can be staged to the shipyard in a timely fashion. Buying up millions of dollars in materials way in advance and storing it is bad business, as the money spent is now non-revenue generating, and you're paying for storage. Also, you are at the mercy of manufacturers of essentially custom equipment and large specialty production runs, so these may cause delays in supply. 3. The availability of the 1000-2000 specialist sub-contractors used to do the actual "refurbishment" work. The shipyard deals with structure and marine equipment, the cruise line brings in their own teams of sub-contractors who do cruise ship refurbishments all the time, and these teams may be working on another ship when the two conditions above are ready. dexddd Posted May 4, 2016 #69 Share Posted May 4, 2016 Thanks for the insight. It would be nice to know the date as we are holding off booking until we know. The one thing that surprised me a bit with the dates mentioned for the Jade is they are over some spring break dates.
Rare erber Posted May 14, 2016 #70 Share Posted May 14, 2016 I just looked at NCLs website and searched for cruises on the Jade in March and April. There are NO cruises showing up in March. April shows seven day Caribbean cruises departing April 9, 16, and 23rd respectively. The transatlantic is listed to depart thereafter. This suggests that the dry dock will be right after the March 12th charter cruise in mid-March. Hope this is correct for my sake as we have the April 9th cruise booked and that is my spring break so I am not flexible to switch dates. Good luck everyone. Hopefully NCL will verify the dry dock date very soon.
