What Do You Do On a Sea Day?

Last time onboard we had only one sea day. The pool area is so crowded that we just:

Had a late breakfast

Watched the towel folding demo

Sat in on a Q & A with Captain and Sr. Staff

Late Lunch

Booked the next cruise

Hit the pool late in the afternoon when the early diners were getting ready for diner

All with a beverage in hand

Wow, it must have been a port intensive cruise (or a shorter cruise). For us, the ship is the destination so we are happy with 3 full sea days (+ embarkment day)

Get up before the sun in the hopes of photographing a spectacular sunrise at sea. Eat 1st breakfast (2nd breakfast is hours later when DW wakes up :)). Lounge around the pool to see the chair hogs save their loungers. Move a few around randomly to make things interesting for later when they they actually show up (not really, but that would be fun to do), go to the trivia games, read/nap (sometimes at the same time :)

After coffee and breakfast in the WJ (love the egg bar), and depending on the ship, it's usually 4 - 6 times around the walking path to make a mile (we do that several times a day)! We spend time in the Solarium; we also like to hang out at CafeLattitudes in the afternoon having a refreshing frap while doing some needlework (not DH, of course!) and people watching! These b2b cruises coming up will be a bit different since we'll be in an aft cabin for 29 days so I imagine we'll be spending a lot of time on our balcony! Of course in the evening we'll hit the Diamond Lounge before heading to the MDR for MTD! Hopefully there will be some good entertainment but if there isn't that's okay too. We find we can sleep upwards of 10-12 hours each night - wish we could do that at home! And, finally, of course, Quest! Hilarious!

I LOVE sea days! My last cruise only had 2. I don't want that again. I realize I prefer to have at least 3 sea days on a cruise.

1st thing EVERYDAY, as soon as I wake up, I grab my phone/camera, go out on the balcony, and film a 1 minute 'where are we now' video, where I ramble on about where we are and how beautiful it is :p

1st sea day is always room service for breakfast

Then check the compass to see what's going on and plan my day accordingly. I prefer dance classes. Haven't done any trivia games yet. I did pictures with King Julien twice on my last cruise! LOL! Don't judge me! :p

I relax on my balcony in between events (so many people swear you're not in the room enough to enjoy them. Not me!).

People watching is not my thing and the pool at home is WAY nicer than the ones on the ship.

I kinda just go where the day takes me. Sometimes I eat lunch in the MDR, sometimes the WJ. Just depends on what I feel like at the moment.

Yep, sea days are the best part of cruising for me!:D

Love this topic, and am enjoying reading everyone's responses! I specifically picked our FOS cruise at the end of next month because it has 4 sea days if you include embarking day. I do have a couple of comments, many of you stated you watch the early morning chair hogs come out (and wish you moved their stuff) I feel this is hogging chairs is SO disrespectful, and RC really needs to step up and do something about this. My suggestion is have timers attached to the chairs, and after half an hour toss their belongings overboard, LOL!!!

As for me, I pour over the Compass the night before with my trusty highlighter. We often start at the gym, Windjammer then head to the Solarium for Scrabble, drinks and swimming/hot tub in between activities we enjoy (Trivia). I like to get some late afternoon snacks from the WJ (Nachos) and bring them back to the Solarium. Then get ready for dinner, pre-dinner drinks up at the Viking Lounge, Wine Bar, or English Pub!

Can't wait less than a month to go!!!!

We don't have an outside cabin, but I bet you can capture some lovely pictures first thing in the morning!

I do!!! In fact, just as I read your post I glanced at my digital photo frame on my desk and there was a picture of a sunrise I caught as we headed to Jamaica on my last cruise! :D

Fill our mugs with coffee, go up to the VCL and watch the chair hogs on the pool deck think they are not being watched as they are "reserving" their lounge chairs. :p :p :p

Check and send emails.

Walk laps on the life boat deck.

Bridge tour, Theater tour.

Read on deck or on balcony.

Take a sushi class (and eat our homework!) :D

Take a napkin folding class.

Yummy Tutti salad bar for lunch.

Happy hour in the lounge with new and old friends.

Bwahahahahah!!!!! I read those and thought "I wish I were that disciplined!"

Really, I go on vacation to ENJOY myself, not torture myself!

Gyms, they should be banned !!!

They should convert the gyms over into a revenue center.... for $10/day, you get a reserved Solarium-like shaded lounge chair all to yourself, screw the chair hogs!

What do you like to do on a sea day? Lay and/or swim by the pool? Play bingo? Flowrider? Rock Wall? Mini Golf? Explore the ship? Spa?

Find a quiet place away from the sun and pool and read our Kindles. Take in a workshop, explore the ship, and meet up with friends for coffee and pastries.

Early rise for a quiet breakfast and walk around.

Gym, sauna, hot tub, deck chair (in that order) :)

Lunch

Laze, look out for afternoon activities / entertainment or sign up for poker tournament in casino.

Get ready for dinner.

Pre-dinner drinks.

Dinner.

Evening Show.

Time goes by really quickly and it is very relaxing.

Southern Caribbean. 5 ports on a 7 day cruise. Not for the lighthearted!

Ooo. That does sound fun if I happen to wake up early on a day.

What I do on a sea day totally depends on what I read in the compass on the night before.

On our upcoming cruise, we will be boarding in Civitavecchia, when all of those that boarded in Barcelona are visiting Rome, so I'm hoping lots more will be open that day as it's not a true turnaround day. But here are the two visions of that day:

What I would LIKE to do:

Explore the ship and have some lunch. Find a lounger by the pool, order a fancy cocktail with an umbrella and people watch. Maybe read a bit. Drift over to a pub or other bar for drinks before dinner. Maybe bring them back to the room to enjoy on the balcony. Get ready for dinner. If it's the sea day, add get up early, explore the ship some more have some coffee and pastries somewhere quiet, then find lounger by the pool, etc. as above.

What I WILL do:

Race to the slides/zipline/flowrider/rock climbing wall with DS. Stand around taking pictures while he takes full advantage of all of the activities. Grab a drink (or three) on the way back to room, collapse in exhaustion on balcony while watching the runners race back from Rome (on the sea day, replace this with staring at horizon searching for meaning of life). Have a nice late dinner and hope DS collapses early so DH and I can relax with a bottle of wine on the balcony. On the sea day, it will the same, it will just start much earlier.

After 3 very port intensive European cruises, I am looking forward to all those sea days my upcoming transatlantic has to enjoy all of the above (even the gym). The drink holders on the treadmill aren't just for water are they???

Great responses on my post.

And such a funny comment about moving the towels and chairs around from those chair hogs. [emoji1]

For me it depends on how the day before went. If we went on an excursion (I'm a thrill/adventure person) I will sleep in until 9:00. Go to trivia, read by the pool or in the solarium. Probably take a nap at some point. But on our upcoming cruise I'm going to try a few different things, like a wine tasting at Vintages or a martini class in the Champagne Bar. Heck I might even try yoga! There's always something to do that peaks everyones interest!
