First time cruiser here, family of 4 princess Alaska cruise in August

1. I have AT&T cell provider, what's service like for international/roaming fb

2. Can we bring soda on board with us?

Expensive. Do not use your cell phone on the ship. It is way too expensive.

 

As for ports, it depends on the port.

 

You can use your phone on airplane mode and use the ship's wifi. That will cost too, but it is much more reasonable.

You may get intermittent AT&T service in Alaskan waters - we did, but it was spotty. Wait until you get into ports, if you can - sometimes you can get free wifi with a coffee purchase or something. :)

While the ship is at sea, AT&T charges $2.49 per minute for voice calls and $0.50 per text sent. Cellular data would be slow and very expensive, so I would be sure to turn that off.

Alaska is not international. It's part of the US. So if you have AT&T service/signal, it will not be international roaming. However, if you are leaving from Vancouver, that would be Canada, so international roaming there. EM

Bring soda by all means.

 

Turn your phone off and lock it in the safe. (Costs way too much).

Upon unpacking I simply turn my phone off and toss it in my laptop bag. It doesn't come back out/turned on until I'm off the ship on the last morning.

Your best bet is to use the service while in Alaska ports where there will be no roaming costs.
