Artemis908 Posted February 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2016 Just saw this new addition to online check-in that said, "Upload a security photo to expedite the boarding process and help ensure your safety onboard." Does anyone have experience with this and does it really save time? Do they make you just retake it if they don't like how it was taken?

Yes, they will retake the photo if the uploaded photo does not work with the facial recognition software.
derekmcsd Posted February 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 29, 2016 Where do I find this option? Or is it only for newer ships? Leave on adventure in a few weeks.

bouhunter Posted February 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 29, 2016 Coming soon, you can volunteer online to work a shift in the cargo hold on embarkation day unloading luggage.
Artemis908 Posted February 29, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted February 29, 2016 Yeah I am going on Anthem in 90 days. Just wondering if it REALLY saves time... they have to check the photo anyway. And it says to take it behind a white or off-white wall, but we don't have empty walls, so did it in front of a pull down shade... not sure that will work. I would expect that some computer program checks the photo, but I agree, it probably saves a whole 30 seconds.
Royalpair Posted February 29, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 29, 2016 The Anthem check in is done with people with iPads that scan your Seapass. You don't go to a desk. Your keys are in your room. I imagine if you need your pic redone, you go to another line.

Just a decent head shot is all you need. And feel free to smile - this isn't the DMV. ;) The Anthem check in is done with people with iPads that scan your Seapass. You don't go to a desk. The ipad people can take and upload your picture on the spot. :)
Enforcer Posted February 29, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 29, 2016 Hi, We sailed on Anthem last May from Southampton where this system was used and it was very efficient. I parked my car at the port and the cases were taken from it, we then went to the cruise terminal and was greeted by a lady with an ipad ( there were several of them in the reception area, no queues ) she scanned the barcode on the paperwork that I had printed out, checked our passports asked us the health questions and I signed the ipad with my finger. This process took a minute or so. We were then sent through security and then onto the ship. From getting out of the car to being on the ship was about 15 minutes, most of that time being taken going through security. I did make sure that I uploaded decent photos of my wife and myself ( I was supervised by the trouble as she wouldn't let me upload ones she didn't like ) When you have a ship the size of Anthem even shaving off a few minutes from the booking in process is invaluable to cruise lines. Rare little britain Posted February 29, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Only on Quantum class so far. Didn't have to do it for my Ovation set sail pass FYI. yuvraj Posted February 29, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 29, 2016 I used my iphone to take pictures, using our garage door as background. Photos were fine. One less thing to do when you check in. Helps IMO if you have a large group. We had six people in ours. I like the whole process to be as simple as possible. So do all the form filling, registering credit card details etc. before check in. Not a question of how much time it saves but keeping it simple and easy. You can only do this for Anthem I believe.

Cruisingthesuitelife Posted February 29, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 29, 2016 My understanding was that it was optional. I have had to do this as well and there is no option, it just isn't there for the Ovation cruise I am taking! Seems to be the case for quite a few.
