Breakaway or Summit

I am looking for opinions with respect to taking the Breakaway or Celebrity Summit to Bermuda as they are now very close in price with the Summit adding more amenities. I have been on the Breakaway and have only sailed on NCL ships but with the increased prices for NCL, I am looking at other possibilities.

I have sailed both lines to Bermuda. You cannot go wrong with either. I think the main question is to you want to sail a mega-ship with lots more dining and entertainment options or a smaller more traditional ship ? If I were traveling with kids, I would most likely recommend the Breakaway over the Summit.

I sailed the Summit in Aqua Class, and really enjoyed the exclusive Blu restaurant for Aqua Class passengers. I ate lunch I'm the MDR one time, and wasn't a fan. If you're a spa person, the thermal suite is all inside with no outside views (cave like). I'm sure it's changed since I was on it, but our shows were terrible - I was in disbelief how bad one was (Sirens). The summit probably wins for outside lounging, but not for on deck adventure options. By day 3, I felt like we had fully experienced the ship.

Personally, I'd choose the Breakaway. I got off the ship with a sense of regret for missing out on things. I prefer freestyle dining, and enjoy the specialty dining options NCL offers. I had tried all of the up-charge dining options on the Summit - and had no urge to return to any of them. Definitely review the BA shows - and make sure they're your thing (we loved them). The ship won't offer traditional nightly shows like on the Summit.

If you are traveling with kids, or are kid-like yourself, the BA is a no-brainer IMO.

Good luck!

I have been on the breakaway and the Gem and I like them both. I am traveling with my wife and 10 year old son and just figured that I would try the summit as the deal is actually better than the breakaway.

Hi, we sail to Bermuda every year! the choice for us, comes down to price/amenities. we are Elite on Celebrity so get a lot of freebies - but sometimes the NCL price wins out (comparing apples to apples of course). However, if I had children, then I would lean much more heavily towards the Breakaway.....

Both ships have the same itinerary (days at sea/days on shore), - you don't say when you are going.......obviously as the summer approaches, both ships get completely packed!

Whichever you choose, you will have a great vacation!

I've sailed both the Breakway and the Summit. I found the Summit's food to be not as good, service to be not as good, and did not have as many amenities. The ship is also showing its age a bit. The theatre on the summit was bigger/nicer and the casino is nonsmoking which is also nice, also the rooms and balconies are bigger. On balance I definitely have preferred the Breakaway.

So Anthem got caught in this terrible storm and I know the Summit was already in the Caribbean, what did the Norwegian ship do to avoid the storm. I never saw anything on the news regarding any other line.

I've done the southern Caribbean itinerary out of San Juan twice on the Summit, so it was easy to pick the new ship, Breakaway, for our May Bermuda cruise.

I actually liked the Summit, high points were the thalasso pool, specialty restaurants and hitting a jackpot in their casino, but a new ship warrants the latest booking.

We've been on X our last 5 cruises (Caribbean). They offer a great product and good amenities. We travel with a large group and have a great time. With that said, a few years back we were deciding between GEM and Summit to Bermuda. We decided on GEM as the entertainment on X can be sparse. With our large group, we provide the fun for ourselves, so it didn't matter. But for just my wife and I, we like to take in more live music, comedy,etc.. I think either will be a fantastic cruise. The Breakaway is an awesome ship with amazing features, such as the restaurants and bars on the promenade. The Summit is much smaller and very cosy.

If I had to decide today, I would go with the Breakaway!

Enjoy!!
