Live review Anthem of the Seas - 18th April 2016

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I will try and post some images from yesterday later on tonight. However, in the meantime, if you can't wait to see some images from the Statue of Liberty (or as I would say, the Statue that takes Liberties), do a search for Novicetraveller Cruise Diaries in your favourite Social Network site beginning with F and ending in ook. Will post some images from today's photo snaps during tomorrow.

If you like history, you should check out Ellis Island.

It's just an amazing experience and a wonderful journey.

You can get there by ferry from Liberty Island or Battery Park City.

Hi Overtme. I will try and remember that for the next time I am in NYE. This was a short visit as I wanted to do a view things in Manhatten.

Really enjoying your review! Bit confused about this comment though, can you explain?

Great start and looking forward to more.

Thinking about booking for January.

I know its hard, but try not to compare to Oasis. I loved the Oasis so I can see how that could happen.:)

We left Bayonne an hour late today as the ship had to refuel. No complaints as I am sure we will make up the time. We headed to the suspension bridge. I though the ship wouldn't make the clearance as the bridge was deceptively low. I have taken a few images and will post some when I can. I would watch the sail away from the open deck, just for the sheer excitement of seeing the ship going under the bridge.

I have no intentions of comparing Quantum class with Oasis class. Was hoping my first reaction would have smacked me in the face and made me say Wow like the Oasis class ship did. I am still impressed with the layout of Anthem. No complaints. :)

Day 1 / Embarkation first impressions.

The ship is great. Not wow, just great. Very innovative. The layout is something I need to get used to in terms of finding where I need to get to.

The ship didn't leave port until an hour late. Not a massive issue as I know that we will make up the time. I am assuming this is something that happens often. If the assumption is correct, I am wondering if Anthem should leave 1 hour late as a permanent thing?

I spent sail away on Deck 14/15 (can't remember which one off hand). The view was great. As the ship approached the bridge, I wondered if we would actually get under it without the ship getting damaged.

I am uploading some images to Flickr as I type this, and will try and post links to the images when I get some spare time today. I promise... the wait will be worth it, honest! :D

Apart from the side to side rocking and the creaking of the door in my stateroom and my stateroom not being 100% ready by the 1pm entry time, everything seems ok so far.

Oh yes. Food. The 270 Cafe. The Salad options a little disappointing on the variety of salad available. However, it's healthy, so I won't complain. I had dinner at Jamie Oliver's restaurant (Pre-booked). I ordered the baked mushrooms and the Pasta as well as the Cheesecake. The service alone was worth the fee, in my opinion. However, it did feel a bit rushed. I don't know if this was because it is Day 1 or not. I've cancelled my reservation for Silk and booked another table at Jamie's. The food is nice enough. The pasta was slightly cold, but not cold enough to complain about. The Cheesecake is different take on the traditional cheesecake but worth it. I will hold back reserving Jamie's until after I have tried it again today to see if the standard has been raised or at least equaled.

I spent the rest of the evening in the Casino as I suspected that it wouldn't have been easy to photograph various places as it would be busy.

Overall, I'm happy with things so far. No real complaints. I'm awake early, so it's time to get ready and take my camera to take some snaps.

Feel free to ask questions, but I can't guarantee to be able to answer them.

thanks for the review....did you sign up for the voom ahead of time or on the ship? Curious if the price is the same once on board

I did it ahead of time. I think it works out about the same. The main problem with advance booking is that you can't access the internet until you get to the room and get the code.

We are on the May 5th sailing and our cruise doesn't leave until 4 PM. We sailed several times in May and it always left at 4 PM. Maybe it's a seasonal thing.

I don't think Anthem was around last May. The late departure may just be an Anthem thing, or a occassional occurance.

I have decided to go to Windjammer this morning. Something I thought I would never do. As I have a few things I want to do this morning, I didn't want to wait for 270 to open. The food is ok. The scrambled eggs could do with a bit more cooking time and the hash browns were almost like rocks. Other than that, everything is ok. I won't be back in Windjammer often as I know other venues are more to my liking.

If you have a loyalty level coupon, that can only be applied if you purchase the package on-board.

It's quite easy to purchase the package on board, right from your device. No need to do this in advance IMHO, unless you don't want the fee to be on your Sea pass card
