I have attended several in the past and each of the hosts really bust their tails gathering names and communicating with NCL and Roll Calls, etc. Other than receiving a "Thank you" from the attendees..... do these hosts receive anything from the cruise line? I received VIP treatment from the Conciegre and was told that it was because of my hosting the meet and greet. Of course I never verified this with anyone onboard. As a host, you don't expect anything extra. It's a bonus if you get something. It really depends on the Senior Hotel Management. This purpose of recording the names, give Hotel Management an idea of the percent of guests attending versus of guests that the Host says will attend. In all the me M&G's, I have hosted somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of those saying they will attend actually do. The numbers the Hotel Management get each week, helps they to prepare better for for the next group- so they can prepare the correct amounts of goodies and beverages and have the right size venue. It didn't hurt that I have no fear of public speaking so I was quite comfortable being up in front of 100+ people and keeping the festivities moving. :o It was the first time I've coordinated an NCL M&G and I wasn't expecting anything. I did receive a bottle of champagne (which we used as a prize for the slot pull) and hors d'oeuvres each evening. I usually put those in the studio lounge for others to enjoy. For me, the real perk of being the host was that the CD and HD recognized me throughout the cruise and often stopped to talk with me and ask my opinion about the services. It's not often you have the ear of someone who can make a difference. As a solo cruiser I may have had a slightly different perspective than what they usually get. If I host another one, I won't do it with the expectation of receiving anything. That doesn't play into it at all for me. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Freckles_51 Posted May 2, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) I was the M & G organizer on my very first NCL cruise and did not expect anything and did not even know what was expected of me. I only set it up with NCL. I am not the type to stand up and speak in front of a crowd. :o I received priority tender tickets for each tender port and was really happy about that (especially in Santorini :p ) If and when I set one up in the future I will still not expect anything and will still not stand up and speak in front of everyone :o Instead I will introduce myself as people enter and then let the meeting flow however it flows. I don't think the organizer should be responsible for getting people to socialize. It seems to me that it is more difficult to find someone that wants to organize it, rather than several people jockeying for the privilege :eek: On the last cruise, all who signed in with cabin number received treats from the HD....nice touch. I offered to organize it for our November sailing, and over the past few weeks another roll call member has made some quirky comments about my effort. TheDougOut was serving as the "unofficial" organizer of the M&G and slot pull. Was? Unofficial? Too funny. :) The sailing is six months out, and we barely have a dozen participants. I find it unnecessary to update the roll call with every change, because it becomes nothing more than a thread of roll call updates. Let it be a fun conversation about the upcoming trip! Everything else falls into place. Edit: I should add, I offered to organize it for selfish reasons. I'm considering doing a live-review of our cruise on the Dawn, and thought organizing the M&G and slot pull had the potential to provide some interesting content to report on. Plus, we're people-people. When Sue and I organized the slot pull on the Summit a few years back, we ended up making week-long friends with many in the group, including the casino manager. On my last cruise, the gentleman who started it turn it over to another not traveling in a suite, because he was already getting everything because he was in a suite. Now that is a standup person. esm54687 Posted May 2, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted May 2, 2016 I understand the taking of names and cabin numbers so they have metrics for future cruises, etc but was unsure of the need for the cruise critic usernames.... we had over 120 people show up to the M&G and close to 40 that did the Cabin Crawl to 16 unique staterooms. No one wanted to lead the Cabin Crawl and it was my first NCL cruise on the BA .... I was super curious of the different rooms, etc so I raised my hand. It definitely helped when we decided to cruise again so I knew where to book - those angle balcony rooms are outstanding =D .... and my FitBit certainly got a huge workout. Despite me being organiser for both I didn't get a solitary perk?? The HD didn't even recognise me at the second m&g!! As I said it was by default, the guy originally doing it had to cancel his cruise and after two weeks nobody wanted the Baton so I took it. I did it to help cruisers get to know each other and see friendly faces throughout the cruise. On one cruise, I asked for a bridge tour (I think they are eliminated now) and everyone loved that. The group was split in three. I did get a call later in the cruise from the Special Events coordinator to see how everything was going. I also led the cabin crawl which had many fancy rooms including the Garden Villa. On both, I had everyone introduce themselves (if they were comfortable speaking). Then the group coordinator sent the sign-in list to my room for me to keep. So don't count on anything, for sure. It's hit and miss, I guess! I will say that for at least 2 of my times hosting I've been in a suite. But never even got anything saying they were going to do something special so that I COULD pass it on to someone else.
