a new suite "perk" - no more mailed luggage tags

Recommended Posts

I'm kind of bummed that they won't be mailing them. After 14 cruises, it's my first in a grand suite and even though it's minor, I was looking forward to receiving them.....

Well, you could splurge and pay them $35 for paper cruise documents, which include the luggage tags.

Are they still offering paper cruise docs?

I've not checked lately. However, last fall we had some sort of strange issue with not being able to download tags or cruise docs. Royal could not fix it, so they sent us paper docs (including luggage tags) for free. That was October 2015, so it could have changed since then.

It's one thing if RC luggage tags were like airline luggage tags, with bar codes, because a home printer might not make the tags (particularly the bar codes) as crisp as printing by the carrier. I've had problems with scanners trying to read bar codes that came out of my printer, such as boarding passes and play/sports tickets.

I think part of the problem is that some people use a lot of tags, and others don't. I see people board a ship with no carry-ons, other than a woman's purse, and then there are 4 or 5 bags outside a cabin door.

Another couple might have one large rollerboard that was checked with the airline, and then each carry aboard a large tote bag.

So, RC doesn't know how many tags to mail, which creates not only extra cost, but also extra waste for the landfills.

My TA sends a booklet with all of the vital information for the cruise, which includes 2 pages of luggage tags that always look better than what my printer can spit out.

They always sent a single sheet with 8 tags.

I was able to select the option to Print Paper tags during online check in and they were mailed to me at home which I received a few days ago.

Interesting, maybe they are cutting off the capability by sailing date?

Because the ones from Amazon are not only cheaper, but the ones with plastic attachers often get torn off by handlers. These are mine. A steel cable closer and a steel reinforced hole. More durable.

I was looking for the "order luggage tags" option and was contemplating using packing tape or laminating our tags when I did a search for "luggage tags" and found this thread. I just found the tags on Amazon and now will be able to re-use these for future cruises as well. LOVE IT, thanks for the info!

Yes, interesting. When I checked in for my 8/21 Allure cruise (in a grand suite) a few weeks ago, I had no option to order luggage tags. I called RCCL and they said as of May they have not mailed them out and for Pinnacles it ended in April.

We are on Allure in the Sky Class the week after you and have no luggage tag option either. Theoretically we don't need it. In reality I like my bags labelled even if they are being taken by a porter to my cabin immediately. What if they get misplaced along the way, that's why I made them to attach on embarkation day.

REALLY small thing, but.....................

it peeves me big time.

That's just so wrong.

chip, chip, chip, chip

It is a big problem if 6000 people decide that the porters all have lots of luggage tags and no one prints them off. Imagine the chaos.

So why is it not so wrong and not such a big problem when they decided to not send tags to the masses who booked the ship but it is such a problem when they bring the suites into the picture? If it is such a little thing for the folks booking the inside cabins it is just as little for the folks booking a suite.

And Swoopy, the vast majority of people aboard the ship are not booked into suites so just how many more people do you think are possibly going to be asking the ports to write up a tag by making this change?

I'm happy now, no luggage tag in the mail for anyone lol

I am happy too. I'm sure the number of booking for suites will drop off dramatically over this. That should cause some nice price drops and maybe I'll snag one for our next cruise!

Short version: the title says it all.

Long version: I checked in today for an upcoming cruise in a GS and was only given the option to print luggage tags, not order them as you can typically do for suites. So I called C&A, thinking maybe I was too close to the cruise but maybe they could get me some tags (I usually do online check-in way in advance, but this time I'm only 12 days out).

The C&A rep read to me from a notice that they received today saying that as of April 29, they would no longer be sending tags for suites, and we would have to print them out. We had a good laugh about how the policy started 5 days ago but C&A was just informed today, but it seems like that's that.

For anyone who's pinnacle, she also said no tags for pinnacles anymore; I just turned diamond so didn't even know that was a perk.

I know it's just a small thing, but I am not crafty and I absolutely hate putting the tags together - I try to laminate them with packing tape and it never goes well. :p DH jokes I want to upgrade to suites just to get out of assembling the darn tags. We ordered tag holders for when we cruise in non-suite rooms, so I guess I will try those. Still, I am kind of annoyed.

Anyway, a heads up so you don't spend 20 minutes like me, searching all over my online cruise documents for the "order luggage tags" button.

Just seen this thread and it does explain why I could not find the usual suite tag order button for my recent Indy cruise. It was no problem printing my own though.

Except for this August when "slum it" in the CLS.:p We have one more CLS in November and then it is back to our regular location.

Edit: we have the plastic holders from our last Princess cruise, so we can use them again. It really isn't a big deal but it was fun to see them arrive in the mail. :)

The Princess holders fit Carnival brand ships - Princess, HAL and Carnival. The RCCL and X tags are much narrower. Amazon sells both sizes

No worries here, our TA prints our documents and sends us our luggage tags already folded and placed in the plastic holders. I was hoping to save her the trouble and expense on the luggage tags since we are in a GS. Great, they raised the price quite a bit and drop off another perk.

This is BS. At least they could fix FAQ's and search data. When you search "Luggage Tags", all kinds of references to old program of sending tags for Suite & Pinnacle.

I just completed SS Pass and NOWHERE to download tags? Last page of SS has a miniature picture of tag with "They are not real luggage tags" "Please use official luggage tags for your bags" (but no directions how to get or download them). "If you need extra luggage tags, or you have forgotten to bring your luggage tags (That they don't supply anymore ) with you, the images below (miniature) can be used by porter to create luggage tags at the pier"! I thought the whole reason to preprint tags was not to have more delays at pier? We are embarking at Hong Kong (which is a disaster anyway!) Diamond and Suite purchase and the last thing I want is more delays and chasing down porters who don't speak English.

scanr - you will be able to print your luggage tags after your documents are ready, typically 49 days before the sail date. At that point you will see the "print Luggage tag' button on the set sail pass page. Also, one page of your documents will have a luggage tag printed with the room number and ship and sail date, and you can download and copy that.

If you have booked air thru Royal, documents may not be ready until about 30 days before the sail date.
