CPT Trips Posted June 30, 2016 #152 Share Posted June 30, 2016 Seeing these photos makes me want to dig out my 45 year old slides. I wonder if there is anything left on them? Hmmmm.
acwmom Posted June 30, 2016 Author #153 Share Posted June 30, 2016 These are all basically the same picture, but from different levels of the terrace gardens. We were pressed for time, and would have loved to have spent more time here. I ended up liking it far more than I thought I would. And, for JP, my tilt angle filter:

Rare jpalbny Posted June 30, 2016 #155 Share Posted June 30, 2016 Linderhof is a real gem. We had nice weather that day and we got there about about an hour before closing, so we had minimal others there with us. It was really quite a nice visit. Glad you liked it too! Cool lens effect! There is something about the perspective that just doesn't look right - but I've seen that when I've tried to correct perspective digitally using software. I think your eye fights against the change in perspective.

My friends call it the "miniature railroad" effect.....I did it with a pic from the castle in Durnstein, with the Abbey and ship below, and also from the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, looking down the Champs Elysees. It's a fun one to do, with the right photo composition.
acwmom Posted June 30, 2016 Author #157 Share Posted June 30, 2016 First, a few pics of the fountains at Linderhof. Our "premium" coach tour included a beer after Linderhof, it was actually good beer! After a cold and rainy day, comfort food, and beer, were in order. We returned to the Ratskellar. I had the spaetzle, with caramelized onions, and a Radler......on my iPhone, you can see the bubbles moving in the beer:-)
Rebel54 Posted June 30, 2016 #158 Share Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) Great photos. Brings back a ton of memories. Lived in Munich and Bad Aibling for three years and spent so much time at all these places. Linderhof was one of my favorites. I wish we had time to add this area to our tour. Just a good excuse to go back one day. When I finally get my husband to retire we are going to take advantage of our ability to hop on free MAC flights and get out and see more of the world. acwmom Posted July 6, 2016 Author #161 Share Posted July 6, 2016 The weather greatly improved, and the sun was shining. Our first stop was St. Peter's Church, where we climbed 306 steps to the top of the bell tower. A view of the Viktualienmarkt, from above: The top of the Church: The Hofbrauhaus is right above the middle of the screen (only know because we walked there, several times): The Frauenkirche: Marienplatz: The glockenspiel, close up:
marysb Posted July 6, 2016 #162 Share Posted July 6, 2016 The Hofbrauhaus is right above the middle of the screen (only know because we walked there, several times): Ha Ha, we know exactly where the Hofbrauhaus is too.:D Love the photos from up in the church. We wimped out and took the elevator in the Rathaus. I think your climb was worth it -you got great photos! Especially of the Marienplatz. acwmom Posted July 6, 2016 Author #163 Share Posted July 6, 2016 We headed back down the stairs: And to the market, to walk around, something we don't see in the states: The calm, before the storm, in the biergarten: Bikes, lined up, outside the church:
acwmom Posted July 7, 2016 Author #164 Share Posted July 7, 2016 We took a short ride to Nymphenburg. After Neuschwanstein, it was a little underwhelming. The grounds were beautiful, however. Approaching, from the front: A closer view, also from the front: The room where King Ludwig II (of Neuschwanstein fame) was born: The great hall: The canal, behind the palace: A view of the back of the palace:
marysb Posted July 7, 2016 #165 Share Posted July 7, 2016 Thanks for posting these Robin- we didn't have time to go inside Nymphenburg (just peeked in the windows). The front hallway photo looks stunning! ....got any more interiors??:D Mary
acwmom Posted July 8, 2016 Author #166 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Thanks for posting these Robin- we didn't have time to go inside Nymphenburg(just peeked in the windows). The front hallway photo looks stunning! ....got any more interiors??:D Mary Mary, I looked, and only have one other bedroom photo, and it looks very similar to the one I've already posted, with regard to color, style, etc. I'll admit, we didn't stay there long, as there were a group of about 20 middle schoolers on a field trip scavenger hunt. To say they were disruptive is an understatement. Robin
acwmom Posted July 8, 2016 Author #167 Share Posted July 8, 2016 After our palace tour, we returned to "downtown" Munich, for lunch at the market's Biergarten. It was a bit more crowded than earlier in the day. Random sights around town: The Apple Store! With Marienplatz in the background: Taken from in front of the Glockenspiel. Our hotel was located next door to the McDonalds, whose sign you can see through the arch under the clock tower. Very convenient location.

Someday maybe a land trip to Germany.... Chris Yes, we love this part of the world. Second the compliment to Robin for the great photos. Stonepebble, go for it. Land trips in Germany are a piece of cake. And such fun too! We are planning yet another one for next year. :D
stonepebble Posted July 11, 2016 #170 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Oh JP I do hope you'll do a trip report! I don't see any others in your list, am I missing it? You've helped me so much with the Danube! Our daughter traveled all over Europe (mostly big cities) and the place she talks about the most is Berlin! She was so impressed with how efficient and modern it is. She loved the museums there! 2017 is planned for us...maybe 2018! Chris
doktor Posted July 11, 2016 #171 Share Posted July 11, 2016 I found Berlin and Frankfurt the least interesting. I guess it depends on your interest. I loved the small towns and Heidelberg. The country side is very beautiful. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
stonepebble Posted July 11, 2016 #172 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Ha ha... I'm sure she would've loved the small towns and countryside! She was a college kid trying to get to see as much as she could via train & hostels while she was there for a very short time to study. She would love to go back! acwmom Posted July 12, 2016 Author #174 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Archways at Marienplatz: Looking toward our hotel: The glockenspiel's "good night" show-no music, only about 5 minutes long-if that, not many people seem to know about this one, but glad we got to see it. (I didn't get any stills, so had to screen shot it from my phone)
acwmom Posted July 12, 2016 Author #175 Share Posted July 12, 2016 My final photos. It was a fantastic trip, and we can't wait to do another. I'm happy to answer any questions. We definitely liked the extended time on both ends of our cruise, on land, and were very comfortable making our own arrangements. The trains were very easy to navigate, and our small boutique hotels were fabulous (well, 2/3 were). We were disappointed with Avalon, compared to Uniworld, and don't think we will sail with Avalon again. Here are some views of Greenland, from 35K feet:
