These are all basically the same picture, but from different levels of the terrace gardens. We were pressed for time, and would have loved to have spent more time here. I ended up liking it far more than I thought I would.

Linderhof is a real gem. We had nice weather that day and we got there about about an hour before closing, so we had minimal others there with us. It was really quite a nice visit. Glad you liked it too!

 

Cool lens effect! There is something about the perspective that just doesn't look right - but I've seen that when I've tried to correct perspective digitally using software. I think your eye fights against the change in perspective.

My friends call it the "miniature railroad" effect.....I did it with a pic from the castle in Durnstein, with the Abbey and ship below, and also from the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, looking down the Champs Elysees. It's a fun one to do, with the right photo composition.

Our "premium" coach tour included a beer after Linderhof, it was actually good beer!

 

 

After a cold and rainy day, comfort food, and beer, were in order. We returned to the Ratskellar. I had the spaetzle, with caramelized onions, and a Radler......on my iPhone, you can see the bubbles moving in the beer:-)

Great photos. Brings back a ton of memories. Lived in Munich and Bad Aibling for three years and spent so much time at all these places. Linderhof was one of my favorites.

 

I wish we had time to add this area to our tour. Just a good excuse to go back one day.

 

When I finally get my husband to retire we are going to take advantage of our ability to hop on free MAC flights and get out and see more of the world.

The weather greatly improved, and the sun was shining. Our first stop was St. Peter's Church, where we climbed 306 steps to the top of the bell tower.

Love the photos from up in the church. We wimped out and took the elevator in the Rathaus. I think your climb was worth it -you got great photos! Especially of the Marienplatz.

We took a short ride to Nymphenburg. After Neuschwanstein, it was a little underwhelming. The grounds were beautiful, however.

I looked, and only have one other bedroom photo, and it looks very similar to the one I've already posted, with regard to color, style, etc.

 

I'll admit, we didn't stay there long, as there were a group of about 20 middle schoolers on a field trip scavenger hunt. To say they were disruptive is an understatement.

After our palace tour, we returned to "downtown" Munich, for lunch at the market's Biergarten. It was a bit more crowded than earlier in the day.

Yes, we love this part of the world. Second the compliment to Robin for the great photos. Stonepebble, go for it. Land trips in Germany are a piece of cake. And such fun too! We are planning yet another one for next year. :D

You've helped me so much with the Danube!

 

Our daughter traveled all over Europe (mostly big cities) and the place she talks about the most is Berlin! She was so impressed with how efficient and modern it is. She loved the museums there!

 

2017 is planned for us...maybe 2018!

I found Berlin and Frankfurt the least interesting. I guess it depends on your interest. I loved the small towns and Heidelberg. The country side is very beautiful.

I'm sure she would've loved the small towns and countryside!

 

She was a college kid trying to get to see as much as she could via train & hostels while she was there for a very short time to study.

 

She would love to go back!

My final photos. It was a fantastic trip, and we can't wait to do another. I'm happy to answer any questions. We definitely liked the extended time on both ends of our cruise, on land, and were very comfortable making our own arrangements. The trains were very easy to navigate, and our small boutique hotels were fabulous (well, 2/3 were). We were disappointed with Avalon, compared to Uniworld, and don't think we will sail with Avalon again.
