Double cruise points...

Recommended Posts

The other question I have is based on what I have heard on CC about getting points for spending money on board and acquiring points. I assume "spending" money in the Casino doesn't count towards obtaining additional points? I'm not expecting to gain any more points, but thought I should ask.

Oh that would be amazing!!

I know at least in the summer of 2014 HAL gave I think it was one point for every $300 or something like that. I know they did count excursions booked ahead of time - I didn't buy any beverage package or go to the casino so I don't know about that. But my excursions - being in Alaska - and a couple of other purchases did get me a couple of extra points.

Holland America Line allows you to get additional points based on on-board spend. I believe it is one point for each $300 spent (drinks, specialty dining, shore ex, tips, shopping, etc.) Maybe that's where you read it.

If you bought casino credit on your account, then yes, that would count for spending.

I don't read other boards on here, as I have only sailed with RCI.

I believe the Freedom promotion was spend $450, get 3 points. I also think the casino charges were not eligible.

I rarely eat ice creams on the ships, including the free ones. I suspect the drinks package and a standard balcony would be significantly cheaper then a B&J room. [emoji2]

The sweet is the same price as any other Promenade room. Usually booked well in advance. The free ice cream is one trip to the B&J stand each day and can be for anything on the menu. The free drinks are based on access to the Concierge Lounge. So that's really just for 3 hours and limited selections.

It does have drawbacks. I found it to be very noisy at night due to a service door in the ice cream shop. I won't do it again. I am happy I did it once, though.

I will pick just one nit with you, John.

Drinks are for three AND A HALF hours each evening.

I was told the double points was not implemented prior to our 2013 cruise. Should my future daughter in law have gotten double points for paying for a double but going solo in January 2013?

Thanks

Double points for sailing solo in a double cabin began in October 2013.

"Solo guests" means one paying person in a stateroom. Unless you opt for a coffin (sorry, "solo studio"), you're in a stateroom that could accommodate at least one more person should be entitled to double points - especially as you're usually paying double what one person in a two person party would pay.

If you opt for the coffin, then no in that case you are not entitled to double points.

My solo cabin reservation indicates full price for one person and 50% off 2nd guest. I'm guessing I'll get double points as I'm paying for two.

As I understand it, single occupancy of a cabin (not a solo studio or whatever they call it) gets you double points. Given that the BOGOHO sale seem to be the sale that never ends, that means we solo cruisers are pretty much all paying basically 150% - I have never seen anything indicating we get less than double points though.

We just may have to call or email to remind them. [emoji3]

A couple of years back, RCI was giving "triple" points to those who cruised in the month of "December" I think. That was sweet!!!

They gave one extra point per night for "Diamonds in December", so the most you could get was 3 points per night if you were in a suite. This was before solo cruisers also got an extra point per night.

I believe that the rule that is used as to whether one is eligible for double points is whether the solo cruiser paid any amount of a single supplement. Since no single supplement is charged to singles in studio cabins they are not eligible for double points.

We got 4 points for a 14 night transatlantic in a suite in Nov/Dec 2010! You forgot about the extra point for the longer length cruises. (The cruise started on November 28 but was included in the Diamonds in December promotion)

We made our own Diamond in December in 2013. Laura had booked the trip in anticipation of the program continuing, which it didn't. However, she ended up with dbl points due to the solo program beginning that fall. :D

Since we were talking about "points" and not "credits", I assumed the date was after Jan 2011 when there was no extra points given for longer cruises.

However, you are correct, prior to Jan 2011, we could get 4 credits for a cruise during Diamonds in December.

Oh darn, I always get those points and credits mixed up! LOL

When did they stop Diamonds in December?

They did it for 4 years, from Dec 2009 through Dec 2012. The first year, only Diamond and higher level guests sailing on Oasis in December got the extra credit. The next 3 years all Diamond and higher level guests sailing on any ship in December got the extra credit/points.
