Poor quality and service on Vista - new ship

With you embarking in Athens, there is a duty free shop after security. It looked like it had been looted when we went in, people were clearing the shelves of spirits and wine as fast as the staff could re stock them. There were no checks when boarding. In fact we went back ashore and bought some more.

Had the lowest bar bill ever on a cruise

We're planning on it...and a request for our room steward to bring us ice at 5:30pm every day. My wife will be happy that Bailey's o'clock (usually reserved for P&O sailings) is back. :D

That is exactly what we did. Had to ask the cashier if they had more Coke (which he got for us). Prices were not that bad, even with the 24% tax. Bottle of Rum, bottle of Whisky and 8 bottles of Coke came to under 28 Euros. Got us all the way to Malta.

Very poor quality ship. By far the worst Carnival experience combining with a amazing sites! Cheap, not low prices . From dirty walkways to the long lines at the breakfast buffet- Vista has a long way to go here. It is my 6 cruise on Carnival and by far the worst one. Need to get customer service back. I realized you are getting what you paying for, but it should not be as bad. Sorry , Carnival. Time to find another ways of vacationing.

Ya know, getting back to the original subject, I thought we had great service. And I am not just saying that because I am a Carnival cheerleader. I have only sailed Carnival, so I can't speak of other lines. But as far as other carnival ships, I thought it was better than some others I have been on.

Our Cabin steward as great and always kept our ice bucket full. Never saw him after the first day except for one time I came back to the room after forgetting something and caught him off guard making up the room.

We had YTD but requested the same table and wait staff after the first day. Had great service from them every night and tipped them well.

Casino staff was very friendly, with the exception of one dealer that just seemed to hava an attitude.

Went to the Italian restaurant one night and great service and attitude all around.

Dirty hallways? No way. But this was a mid September Cruise. OP went on one of the first cruises, so maybe the staff was not ready.

What I can say, is that the OP is in suspect. First post ever on Cruise Critic, joined the day of their post and has not been back since. Makes me wonder if the poster is even real, or one of the Anti-Carnival Trolls that offset all of the Carnival Cheerleaders on this Carnival sub section of Cruise Critic.

***Disclaimer**** I am not a Carnival employee, do not work for a Carnival company, related to a Carnival employee, nor do I own Carnival stock (at least not anymore). Just like sailing on Carnival.

The ship looks fine, apart from its lame thermal suite making the spa cabins not very good choices. Placing family harbor, low, back and under the galley. No tandoor

Still looks like a great ship despite these issues. ;)

Trumpster please elaborate in regard to the Cloud Nine Spa facilities. I'm really curious about the "Infrared Sauna." Is the Infrared just in the Cloud Nine Spa or, is there also an infrared sauna in the plebian locker rooms? Someone heard a fellow cruiser disliking the interior because it's too modern. Last year I went on the Breeze and noticed this is the new interior styling on the Breeze/Vista ships. I personally don't care either way but for those used to the old orange and red brash style you may be not be as happy. Especially the elevators and MDR on the Breeze and I assume the Vista seem more like an airport Holiday Inn in New Jersey. Sort of generic. I did notice this especially in the elevators. They were basic brown and showed their wear and tear a bit more than I'd expect on a newer ship. Otherwise I always enjoy myself and look forward to sailing the Vista next September out of Miami.

You are going to cancel your cruise because of one review? Wow, I believe EVERYTHING I read on the internet or if I see it on TV!!! Must be Gospel!!

To the one who wants to cancel, please take the advice of the zaftig no no kitty! Hey, I'm the first to realize that a cruise is a vacation investment of some serious coin. But, the fun factor and great people you meet on board are worth giving the Vista a try. Now, if I learned there would be a group of creepy , seven or more sailings in a row where everyone got the squirts and the Cruise Director was a clone of Hillary Clinton or one of the Bush clan then maybe I'd consider alternative cruise ships/itineraries!

You mentioned the Thermal Suite being "lame" could you elaborate on that for us please. I am looking to book next year for my mother's 60th birthday and this will be a big deal if its not what everyone is looking for. I have been in NCL and they have an amazing thermal Suite, I know that Carnival Vista's will be different but I have not been able to find any details on it. Such as the price for a week and what there for us to use.

Also I can understand the OP as to certain things will affect you and make you not want to cruise again on Carnival. This is their first few sailings, nothing ever goes as planned, they have to work out all the kinks and such. Then hopefully it will be smooth sailing. Don't give up on Carnival just yet!

The price for a week is $169 per guest or $40 per day per guest. You could check out my review below in my signature line from the inaugural Vista sailing. There are plenty of photos of the thermal suite as well as a description of our time spent there. We really enjoyed the thermal suites but the one big draw back that most people are complaining about is the additional of a large whirlpool instead of a Thalassotherapy Pool.

I just book on this cruise for Christmas week. I got the cove balcony for $10 more than windows.

My first time on Carnival and would be my 3rd cruise.

Is it really this bad for a new ship?

No its not this bad, unless not having a table cloth for dinner is a showstopper. We had a great cruise.

Its not the Carnival we sailed with 15 years ago though, but we are still paying the same price

Hmmm...This is the first time I have heard a negative reaction to the Vista. Currently, 5 friends are sailing on the Vista and we are all scheduled to go in January out of Miami. All of us are Platinum level. They have posted that they are having a marvelous time with no mention of anything being "off". I trust their opinions over this one bad review.

Not only is this post from May, but the OP was on the Vista's Inaugural cruise, meaning it's very first cruise ever......it does take some time for all things to come together smoothly......which is why we don't ever sail on Inaugural sailings! To each his own, but this is to be expected as the entire crew is coming together to work for the very first time, and like anything BRAND NEW, there are 'construction kinks' needing to be fixed. Take it for what it's worth!

Wow number 1, first post? Number 2, just once would I like to see pictures of the dirt and filth on Carnival ships, especially the new ones!! If I saw things like that you can bet I would take pics as proof. Sigh....

First and ONLY post. That, coupled with the struggle to elucidate, speaks volumes.

I was on the Inaugural and thought it was a great cruise. There was more to see and do than was possible, given the port intensive schedule. Looking forward to exploring more of the ship on the TA next week. I'm sure it will still be great!
