bonniboo1 Posted June 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Just spent a glorious cruise in a PH suite on the Gem. Can anyone tell me which model of Necpresso machine they have in suites? Bonni

family cruiser 3 Posted June 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Looking forward to my first cruisei in a haven room on the Escape. Just wondering if the coffee machine makes cappuccino. Thanks
cmdchiefthom Posted June 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Essentially, you put the coffee capsule in the machine, press a button, and out comes your coffee.;)
bonniboo1 Posted June 5, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted June 5, 2016 OK, i would put creMer and sweetener in the larger cup provided. Pop in the capsule, push down the top and if u are facing the machine press the. Button on the right. Tastes awesome. The capsules with dogs are decaf. soaringfalcon Posted June 5, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Looking forward to my first cruisei in a haven room on the Escape. Just wondering if the coffee machine makes cappuccino. Thanks No. Just espresso and coffee only. I will say that I'm normally a latte drinker. The espresso was good enough that I enjoyed it with just one 1/2 and 1/2. If it's the foam you're looking for - that's not going to happen.
hpecorari Posted June 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2016 (edited) Looking forward to my first cruisei in a haven room on the Escape. Just wondering if the coffee machine makes cappuccino. Thanks No, the new espresso machine only make espresso. The machine can be purchased for about $249 and the attachment that is used to froth milk for cappuccino can be purchased anywhere from $99 To $119. However NCL does not supply the attachment to froth the milk in order to make the cappuccino. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=387239&stc=1&d=1465165602 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=387239&stc=1&d=1465165723 Harriet Edited June 5, 2016 by hpecorari
FranknBeans Posted June 5, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 5, 2016 For us this is a bummer as we drink very little alcohol but have a Jura machine similar to the Lavazza machines in suites and drink a lot of lattes and cappuccino all day. Along with the price of suites sky high and the perks dwindling i don't see sailing in suites any time soon.
Rare LAFFNVEGAS Posted June 5, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 5, 2016 I am one that is sure going to miss those Lavazza Machines :( Was recently on the new HAL Koningsdam in a Neptune Suite and their new coffee machine which is very similar to the Nespresso did not impress me. Of course part of what makes the Lavazza so good is the coffee itself and I do use it at home for my Keruig :)
Kfamilycruise Posted June 5, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 5, 2016 The concierge told me my aft penthouse suite on the Getaway will still be Lavazza. We actually have a Nespresso machine at home and love it. With the steamer attachment we make ourselves espresso and latte all the time.
FranknBeans Posted June 5, 2016 #12 Share Posted June 5, 2016 It just blows me away that NCL just keeps taking away perks as they see fit. I trust this is going to be fleet wide?
hpecorari Posted June 5, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 5, 2016 (edited) It just blows me away that NCL just keeps taking away perks as they see fit. I trust this is going to be fleet wide? Eventually, yes. Nesspresso coffee is very good. We had both machines the attachment and the machine for our house in the Poconos our main house our RV and on our boat LOL however this is one way that NCL is providing espresso for sweets however you still have to pay for cappuccino LOL I have a cruise coming up shortly and I will simply just bring my attachment with me! Others who cruise a lot and suites can just bring for the $99 frothing machine and take that with them. It'll last them a lifetime of cruises LOL The secret is to use 2% milk and not whole milk. Funny thing is we just completed a cruise in April on the Gem in the GV and of course I forgot to bring the attachment with me. Ironically they only had coffee cups and never had any little espresso cups Harriet Edited June 5, 2016 by hpecorari

dexddd Posted June 6, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 6, 2016 One of the reasons mentioned by butler on last trip for the switch is people would try to make coffee and put the machines into desalinate mode which would take awhile and they'd have to wait for cycle to finish and wait for coffee. bonniboo1 Posted June 6, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted June 6, 2016 I never quite got the hang of the Lavazza machines. Honestly when I put the creamer and sweetener i. First it did a good imitation of a cappuccino. I did use 4 creamers. Bonni

And you could of asked him to keep you supplied with the little cartons of milk.
Rare graphicguy Posted June 6, 2016 #18 Share Posted June 6, 2016 I didn't like the Lavazza machines. I don't like their K-Cup pods, either. I DO like the Nesspresso and am glad that's what NCL is using, now. Different tastes for different folks.
Gregor4500 Posted June 6, 2016 #19 Share Posted June 6, 2016 I liked the Saeco machines they had before the Lavazza. After my first suite I bought one.

The Nespresso machines don't do it for me. Sorry to see NCL phasing out the Lavazza.
VideoTech Posted June 6, 2016 #21 Share Posted June 6, 2016 It just blows me away that NCL just keeps taking away perks as they see fit. I trust this is going to be fleet wide? I'd say they're not taking away a perk - they're still providing suites with an espresso machine, but have simply exercised their option to select which machine they use. It's purely a business decision and I'm sure they're getting a good discount from Nestle on the machines. I will also say that, as others have mentioned, the Lavazza machines are quite complicated, and you can easily get it stuck in the wrong mode. Thus they probably take up more of the butler's time...again, a business decision.

I have to disagree with your comment, its not about the just expresso it's about the frothing and the coffee brand. I guess you need to be a coffee snob to understand.:)
Rare BirdTravels Posted June 7, 2016 #23 Share Posted June 7, 2016 It just blows me away that NCL just keeps taking away perks as they see fit. I trust this is going to be fleet wide? We like the nespresso machines a lot better than the old Lavassa machines. The new machines are a better "perk" than the old. They just gave us a big perk by making this change. You want to be a coffee snob, purest, or whatever label you want, you don't do foo-foo coffee drinks. Make mine espresso, maybe with a little sugar. latebloomer56 Posted June 7, 2016 #25 Share Posted June 7, 2016 OK so now I just have to keep my fingers crossed they made the change in the SC suites on the Dawn during dry dock :). I never got the hang of the Lavazza machine so never enjoyed my coffee first thing. I'm up between 4-4:30 every day and had to hunt for coffee just before 5:00. They were nice at the buffet each trip though each time even with the door closed somebody told me just come in and grab my coffee it was always ready. With a different machine maybe I can just fill my go cup and go up on deck or the casino. Thanks
