Spirit Coffee Warning

It is a small drip machine, so you can run it with an empty basket to make hot water.

The room service coffee is the same as the buffet coffee, or possibly worse. At the busiest times in the buffet, they put out those big catering tubs of coffee, which is prepared god-knows-how (I'm guessing it's a coffee concentrate + boiling water). That also seems to be what they fill the room service carafes with.

Thank you!

Geez, it wasn't all that long ago we all drank Hill's Brothers, Maxwell House and Folgers and didn't know anything else about coffee. I thought the buffet coffee on the Escape was drinkable, not great. I had no problem going to the Atrium and paying for a "better" cup of coffee. In fact, since the cruise I've bought Lavazza to brew at home. For the record, I'm not Canadian and I like Tim Horton's coffee. Not now, nor have ever been a fan of Starbucks coffee.

Life is too short to drink Hill's Brothers, Maxwell House and Folgers....

As we live in Seattle, let's just say our coffee and its quality is very coveted and important. on our last five cruises we bring our french coffee press with our own grounds, just use the hot water in the dispensers and we are happy. Don't drink that "stuff"/syrup they call coffee, bring your own!![emoji39]

Speaking of syrup, on the one (and maybe only) cruise we took on Princess, I was getting headaches by mid-afternoon, which is usually my indication of caffeine withdrawal (yep, I'm an addict). I was speaking with a long-time Princess cruiser, and she informed me that Princess doesn't even brew coffee any more (for the free food venues), rather they make "coffee" with coffee-syrup. I almost cried when I heard that (Day 2 of the cruise). Granted, I could have splurged for the coffee card (the one good thing on Princess - that and their cronuts), but the idea of "coffee syrup" really annoyed me.

I have never had a caffeine headache on any NCL cruise (7 and counting).

I find it really strange that I can go and get a liqueur coffee using my UBP but if I want a straight forward coffee I have to pay for it.

You would think someone at NCL would have worked out that the first option costs a lot more than the second!

Is it possible to ask for the coffee with the alcohol on the side?

I've never had an issue getting a regular coffee at a bar or restaurant or casino...... it's the specialty coffees that are excluded (cappuccino, espresso, latte, etc)

Please can you clarify?

I drink black decaff. coffee, no sugar and when I have ordered it at the Atrium bar, I have always had to pay for it. Should it be included in the UBP as it is not one of the fancy coffees?

Thanks

Not sure how much to clarify..... I was able to get my normal (non latte, non cappuccino, non espresso) black coffee at any bar without issue or charge at the bar. Did you order it at the Coffee Bar because that's not included.

I guess if you run into a problem going forward order a Virgin Irish Coffee. I order Virgin Screwdrivers and although I get weird looks..... I found the loop hole to order orange juice with the UBP and the freshly squeezed juice restriction.

We just got off the Getaway on Sunday and we all found the coffee to be pretty revolting. It was bad in the buffet and undrinkable in Flamingo Grill (I think that's what it was called - eating area on deck 16). We too had flavored creamers and could not make it work. We were on the Star last year and I don't remember the coffee being bad. I would think it would all be the same.
