All inclusive beverage package

I have a silly question. Is the all inclusive in the price of the cruise package? Or is it something you still buy separately? If it is included in the fare then everyone has the drink package. What does it all include? Thank you , just trying to understand.

Not normally--it typically costs an extra $56 per person per night of cruise. Not every person needs to buy it, but those who do must purchase it for every night. However, there are some current "specials" where the package is included with the fare.

It includes all beverages priced at $10 or less each. This includes most wines, most mixed drinks, all sodas, mocktails, bottled waters, beer, juices, specialty coffees, milkshakes, etc.

When you book a cruise under the promotion, it will tell you. There is currently a Sip and Sail promo happening for cruises starting May 2017-2108. If it's included on your sailing od choose, you'll get a pop-up that tells you it's include. You have the choice, under this promo, of either two all-inclusive beverage packages or OBC, with amount determined by length of sailing.

Otherwise, it's $56.35 pp per day including gratuity.

I have to admit, I simply can't wrap my head around the AIBP. It's about $50/day. To receive any 'savings', you would need to be planning to drink more than 5 cocktails, or 9 beers - PER DAY - for the entire cruise. Or, order a $100 bottle of wine every night at dinner, and then another drink or two during the day. But that gets expensive in a hurry.

Now, I like a beer or a cocktail as much as the next guy, but there's no way I'm going to do that for 7, 10, or 14 days straight. At least, not if I have any intention of remembering the trip. :D

I am with you. I have never gotten the AIBP. My beverage tab is no where near $50 per day. Even with some coffee, soda, etc. thrown in.

Now with them giving it away free for many 2017/8 cruises, I will take it.

Yes, but on most cruises that are including the AIBP with the cruise fare, you have the option of getting additional onboard credit instead of the AIBP. So you still have to evaluate whether you'll come out ahead with the OBC or the AIBP. The amount of OBC depends on length of cruise and on what I've seen amounts to half or less than the cost of the AIBP.

Can anyone tell me if a lemon drop martini would be under $10? I'm wondering which of my favorite drinks would be over $10. Thanks!

Yes, lemon drop, Apple, milky way, almond joy, 007, dirty, dry, flirtini, tropical, etc martinis are all included. All drinks in the drink menus at Martini Bar, and all bars - except for the chocolate journey drinks in Wheelhouse Bar - are included in the package. Virtually all cocktails, shots, mixed drinks, beers, sodas, non-alcoholic cocktails, juices, teas, coffees, and bottled water are included. A very few higher end scotches, a very few wines and champagnes by the glass and the Chocolate journey drinks are over $10.

For drinks over $10 - you pay the entire cost of the drink plus gratuity.

Thanks for that clarification!

The AIBP option for the 40% off bottles of wine at the wine bar is a nice option for those who drink a lot of wine on the cruise. And I'm sure that gets shared. :D

We may enjoy a couple beers or cocktails each during the day at sea, and on port days we would have a couple drinks in the evening. But we could never cover the $56/day fee. But free is always good! :)

It is completely within the rules to share the 40%-off bottle of wine - just not the included drinks. In fact, the only reason I would purchase a bottle of wine under the AIBP would be to share. Otherwise, I would just order wine by the glass.

We both always have the AIBP but often get bottles of wine with the discount for dinner to get a better wine then those available on the AIBP

The cruises we got the free AIBP with are 28 days. So, OBC would be about $9 per day. I will certainly drink that much

After trying Celebrity this year with their very confusing drinks packages I do so love Princess where One booze package Covers nearly everything no hassle just relax.

Celebrity was so confusing I didn't like the fact you had to ask the bar each time if what you wanted was covered by the package and indeed check that that particular bar stocked it n the first place.

This "is it worth it" discussion comes up on every group on CC. The real answer is "you have to decide for yourself."

We just bought the package on RCCL Allure when it went on 20% off sale. It's $44 per day for the middle package. The average price per drink on Allure is about $11 and the wine DW really likes is $15 a glass, so four drinks and I am even and she will be more than even just counting before/during/after dinner.

Didn't buy it on our last Carnival because we both had to purchase and DW doesn't drink as much as I do. Ended up we had two cold windy days at sea so no deck time. Boy was I glad I didn't buy it.

Doing Island PC in March 2017 and I am not sure if I will buy it for 15 days. I probably will due to the bottle wine discount (four of us sailing) and specialty coffees. I am waiting to see if they offer the Sip & Sail for that cruise.

With the exception of bottles of wine, what would a typical day look like where the AIBP works out in your favour?

I was thinking, two cappuccinos or lattes at breakfast. Milkshake in the afternoon. A cocktail poolside. A pre-dinner martini, wine or beer with dinner, and an after-dinner drink. This is more than I would normally drink in a day, and even that comes out to less than $56/day.

A typical sea day for me looks like: soda at lunch (I am not a morning person and am rarely awake before 11), bottle of water, at least two cocktails by pool between 1-4, bottle of water on way back to room for getting ready for evening, pretty dinner Martini, glass of wine or cocktail at dinner, cocktail at show, bottle of water, cocktail or two at casino depending on how long I play, bottle of water, cocktail at nightclub if I go, bottle of water for back to cabin. So, approx 4 bottles of water, a soda, maybe 8 cocktails in a 14 hour or so period, glass of wine. My husband drinks similar and often more than I do. Easily covers the package price. No hangover, no stumbling, no lack of memory, etc. Some days may be a little more, some may be less. On port days, it's two bottles of water when I head out, bottle on return, pretty dinner Martini, cocktail at show, then casino and nightclub if I go. It can vary depending on itinerary and types of ports.. It evens out

As noted a bazillion times on this and other forums - it works for some and not for others. It's optional. If it doesn't work for you, no problem - don't buy it or choose OBC when it's a promo... For others, who drink alcohol more regularly or enjoy a mix of alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages, it works fine.. Thankfully, it's optional, so we all have the choice of whether to buy it or not.

Thank you for a sample day. I like to drink but not get drunk, and I really like the idea of the AIBP to not have to keep a running total in my head. Since I haven't been on a cruise before, I don't know how much I can or will drink if I didn't have to worry about the cost of each beverage. I see how it can work for some, and not for others. But it doesn't feel like it's a "no brainer". Not like the coffee card. If you like espresso based drinks and you're on a 15-day cruise, it just makes sense to get the coffee card. The other features of the coffee card (free brewed coffee, save unused punches for your next trip, etc) make it an even easier sell. The AIBP is harder to justify without knowing for sure.

I'm thinking that the best thing to do in my case would be to not purchase the AIBP, but put the money for it aside anyway. Then on my first cruise, I order drinks freely (as if I had the AIBP) and I will know for my next cruise if it'd be worth it.

It really depends on how you would use it and whether it is included as a perk or not. If I had a choice between $9 per day in OBC or the free package, that's easy. If the decision was $25 per day in OBC or beverage package, that would be more difficult.

As noted above, if you like specialty coffees, a coffee card may be a "no brainer," but the fact that you could buy a coffee card would impact whether the AIBP is a good deal for you.

Each person is different in how they would use the package. I suspect many would use it more if it were "free" than what they would get when paying for each item. It starts with deciding whether I want fresh squeezed OJ at breakfast or is juice from concentrate "good enough?" Personal decision.

For two people in a cabin it sounds like they allow one person to buy the AIBP and the other is not required, correct? I assume they apply a sticker to the one card?

I've also read that bottled water and canned/bottled soda are no longer allowed to be carried on, that's a shame...

You can bring on any non alcohol beverage..... on princess 2 bottles of wine....

However right now princess has a promotion as long as you are in a balcony or above. You can get the AIBP. as a free perk... this will save us on a 28 day trip.... worth $1577.80 pp

We like to drink and don't like being drunk either. And we aren't when drinking as such under my sample day.. 8-10 alcoholic beverages spread over 14+ hours is hardly enoigh to get even light drinkers drunk.

As far as running totals, you can check your onboard folio at any time you want onboard either via guest services, the automated machines near guest services or via Princess@Sea on your smartphone (uses ship's intranet, free).

Here's a beverage package evaluator put together by a very helpful frequent poster, perhaps take a look and see for yourself whether a package makes sense for you or not.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2038576&highlight=beverage+package+evaluator. The newest pricing starts at post 215.

As it's your first cruise, I would likely suggest you NOT get a package. Maybe the coffee card if you're big into espresso based coffee drinks.

Otherwise, do as you're thinking already, set aside X amounts of money to cover your bill, and drink as you like, woth no pressure to "get your money's worth" or whatever... You can gift yourself OBC (whole threads on that also) or prebudget however much you may think you'll need, etc. However it works for you.

You can use the evaluator also to figure how much to budget for your drinks also...

Happy sails!!
