icsys Posted July 29, 2016 #103 Share Posted July 29, 2016 The only downside of booking via the USA I guess is not being able to take advantage of this!! Sent from my iPhone 6s using Tapatalk Yes little britain, I have just bought some OBC for my Celebrity cruise in September but can't do the same for my December Allure cruise as it was booked in $ with Club Royale (poker win).:-/ Try ringing the 0800 0182020 number. I just did and because the first cruise I quoted was booked through the London office they told me I had to dial the 0844 number. However, by calling 01932 834243 I have just applied credit to the above cruise and applied credit to our next cruise which was booked on board under US Ts&Cs It is possible the 0800 number will work for you. Worth a try. Rate is still $1.
Rare little britain Posted July 30, 2016 #104 Share Posted July 30, 2016 (edited) But if you buy OBC for a $$ booking it does not matter what the RCI exchange rate is...as it will be the rate that your credit card applies to the transaction. ronpes Posted July 30, 2016 #105 Share Posted July 30, 2016 For those of you in the UK who are concerned about the poor $/£ rate post Brexit- I have purchased OBC today for my upcoming Independence cruise and got a great rate of $1.42 to the £. $300 cost me £210, so a lot better than the rate on the high street or the rate that your bank will possibly use if they convert your spend. I thought that RC may have reduced their rate by now...who knows if or when they will? I feel happier knowing I got a decent rate today :) I just wanted to express my sincere thanks for alerting all UK cruisers to this. I just bought OBC for my upcoming Oasis sailing at the rate of 1.48. Thank you very much. :)

ronpes Posted July 30, 2016 #107 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Wow it has gone up well done. Seriously considering purchasing some obc for our 2017 cruise. Sorry, I read your post and checked again and I have made a typo ie it was 1.428 not 1.48. Still,... an excellent rate. We too are also going to look into this for our 2017 sailing. Sorry for the error.

XXPIPXX Posted August 16, 2016 #111 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Brought 2 lots of OBC now for our cruise next month :) My question is if anyone can help: Can I withdraw my OBC credit in dollars straight away (it's our casino money about $350 each) we can then budget ourselves a daily amount? And, where do we do this?

If your onboard account is secured by a credit or debit card, they will charge you a 5% service charge for the cash withdrawal. If you can a cash onbiard account, there is no service charge for cash withdrawals.

cloud_nine Posted August 18, 2016 #114 Share Posted August 18, 2016 Just want to let everyone here know that if you haven't received confirmation of your purchased OBC - call them. With 10 days to go until my cruise I still hadn't received confirmation for the OBC I bought last month so called up royal caribbean only to be told that it wasn't on my account. There was a note in the system saying we'd bought some but the OBC was seemingly 'lost' even though the money had been taken out of our bank account. Person who we bought it from is on holiday so can't even speak to her to find out what's happened. Now have had to send a copy of the statement to RCCL to see what they can do. Just want to make sure that everyone's aware of what can happen so always make sure you get confirmation of the purchased OBC.

Thanks for the info as we had not received confirmation for purchases made last month for two cruises. Just rang through and a separate Email confirmation for each transaction was sent within minutes. The only problem is the confirmation does not state the actual amount of OBC purchased, just the amount paid in local currency. Having never pre-purchased OBC before I would have expected some form of confirmation of the actual amount purchased in USD. OBC is not shown in the online Cruise Planner nor on the e-docs which have just been issued for our next cruise.
fragilek Posted August 19, 2016 #116 Share Posted August 19, 2016 The actual receipt never has the amount in $ or the exchange rate give. I always get them to also send an additional email confirming the exchange rate and total in $. Not sure if it would help if there was a problem but at least it's something to show on board. muirm0710 Posted August 20, 2016 #118 Share Posted August 20, 2016 I have read that any OBC purchased will not show on your account viewed on the television in your room until possibly the second day of your cruise. Can any experienced cruisers confirm this?

peach1959 Posted August 21, 2016 #120 Share Posted August 21, 2016 In addition to the OBC I've noticed that on our 10 day Jewel sailing in October the grats are £94 if prepaid but on board $13.50 per night=$135. I believe by prepaying this is approx a $34 saving per cabin as the exchange rate stands. Not to be sniffed at!!! Please correct me if i'm wrong before i pay them!!!! gooners1968 Posted August 27, 2016 Author #121 Share Posted August 27, 2016 Just back from Indy 14 night cruise around the Med. We had a note in our cabin confirming our OBC purchase the 1st day of the cruise. The amount showed up on our account on the TV immediately. Bobblehat71 Posted September 1, 2016 #123 Share Posted September 1, 2016 Are there any other charges? eg. Credit Card transaction fees etc or is this seen as a purchase and not a cash withdrawal.
