julie100 Posted July 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2016 It's Day 2 of our cruise on the Escape and not wanting to make a big deal out of the water thing, but this is funny. We always check in a case of water, learned last week about new policy. Got on the ship on Sat. and proceeded to the closest bar to purchase water. They are offering a 1 qt Aquafina (plastic screw-top container) and a 1 qt Acqua Panna (glass container with hard top). So, I order 3 of the Acqua Panna because I hate the other brand. First of all, I get it back to the cabin and we realize we need a bottle opener. Huh?? So I call guest services and ask for one, I ask my steward for one also. I finally get one the morning of Day 2. The good that has come out of this, I have 2 NCL bottle openers to bring home! Here's my tip: bring a refillable water jug with you because there are no smaller bottles of water to easily hold or throw into a purse, these are very awkward 1 qt. sizes. I can't speak for all ships or all bars and it's possible they will offer more choices in the future. So far, great cruise. I love the Escape. I love the Pearl and Getaway too, but the Escape is WOW. Had dinner in the French restaurant tonight, my husband says best filet on a cruise ship - ever (my lobster was amazing too). :D

Sand and Seas Posted July 18, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Interesting! Try the bar by the Casino. They had 20 oz bottles of water when we were on the Escape in January. That would be an easier size to carry around. Have a great cruise!
casofilia Posted July 18, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Did you see if anyone was trying to take water on board at embarkation? If so, was it being confiscated? Mike

Sissaaaaaa Posted July 18, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2016 I'm excited that they have Acqua Panna. What are they charging for it?
julie100 Posted July 18, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Prices? They charged $5.50 plus 18% tip for a total of $6.49 for the 1qt (33.8 oz exact size for both brands, a little over 1 qt.). I've already gone through 2 of them, I'll use 1 per day, my husband maybe 1/2 per day. It will be expensive by the end of the week.

For a cruise ship passenger that is outrageous. That is NCL thumbing their collective noses at the passengers. This has gotten crazy.

Loonbeam Posted July 19, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 19, 2016 Acqua Panna runs about $3 per 1 ltr bottle on Amazon, so that's not quite as bad as a markup on the Aquafina...

Not sure now what the brand was but I know they have them on the ship as when I asked for a water that bottle is what the casino attendant brought me. I had a cabin booked with CAS so I had the beverage card but I am sure you could have purchased the bottle also!
Rare mking8288 Posted July 19, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) It's still Aquafina bottled water, 20 oz. and was priced at $3.25 each + 18% @ $3.84 each from the casino bar area. Now that a few more here on CC sailing NCL knows about it - let's hope they are stocking up and not run out of the smaller bottles, but, we will settle for the 1 liter bottles ... unless, they decide to downsize to the popular 16.9 oz ones. Ours "free" also while playing with tipping to the crew directly, so they're happy. Edited July 19, 2016 by mking8288

DevCruise Posted July 20, 2016 #23 Share Posted July 20, 2016 I agree. For a cruise ship passenger that is outrageous. That is NCL thumbing their collective noses at the passengers. This has gotten crazy. True, but while there are people like my wife who refuse to pay for anything extra there are also people like the OP who will buy it anyway and so the NCL higher ups go "see, more beverage sales are up". Personally, I'm somewhere in the middle. I won't be buying water, but I don't walk out with a $0 sign and sail account either.

netninja04 Posted July 20, 2016 #25 Share Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) Aren't these prices slightly less than the "savings" for ordering online before boarding? This is getting confusing! I'm sailing on Norwegian Pearl on July 31st so I just checked my NCL account for the Bottled Water packages. These prices are in line with the prices of the bottled water package you can purchase in advance. The package also requires the 18% service charge to be added on. Edit: In case you can't see the picture here are the prices I see for the bottled water package in my account: For all ships except Pride of America Item # Description Price Savings WBP6 6-pack (1-liter bottles) $22.95 USD 30% WBP12 12-pack (1-liter bottles) $39.95 USD 39% WBP18 18-pack (1-liter bottles) $49.95 USD 50% WBP24 24-pack (1-liter bottles) $59.95 USD 55% Note: 18% gratuities & service charge will be applied at time of purchase Pride of America sailings only Item # Description Price Savings WBP12 12-pack (1-liter bottles) $39.95 USD 39% WBP24A 24-pack (500-milliliter bottles) $44.95 USD 42% Note: 18% gratuities & service charge will be applied at time of purchase Edited July 20, 2016 by netninja04 Adding the package prices
