After 3 cruises with Celebrity with family , I am know thinking of going on a solo cruise, has anyone else done this and how have they found it, I have heard that NCL are good for this and have a great programme, seperate lounge you wish to use it and the cabins look good as well, looking for comments and advice for a cruise towards end of next year, maybe on the getaway ?

I travel single all the time.

The Epic, Breakaway, Getaway and The Escape all have Studio cabins meant for one person and priced that way. They are really nice. Yes, they do have a Studio Lounge for singles to gather. I do not use it very often but others do.

I love The Getaway. Will be on Her over Christmas for the second year in a row. It might very well become a yearly thing.

Sailed solo on the EPIC and enjoyed it. The studio cabins are quite cozy and really well laid out. The solo gatherings in the evenings are great because those who want to will go together as a group for dinner so you don't have to worry about eating alone, as NCL doesn't have traditional dining with assigned seatings.

I love traveling solo and have done the Epic, Getaway, and Escape in the studio cabins (reviews in signature). Like previous posters have said, they do have a solo coordinator and solo meetings where you can buddy up with others if you want. I mostly stick to myself and have had no issues with getting single slots in the restaurants and found most of the other passengers to be very friendly and welcoming.

I have always had a spa pass and enjoy it immensely on all my trips so you may want to look into that if that's your thing.

I late book and take advantage of price dumps. I find the studio prices usually high in those cases. So, I have taken advantage of just being in inside cabins. Some ships have very active solo groups, some, little. Depends on the particular ship. I haven't been solo on the "lounge" ships.

My only comment is to check the rates for all the cabin types. For an upcoming getaway trip, I was able to get an OV guarantee for the same price as a studio or a BX balcony guarantee for $170 more total than the tiny studio cabin. These are with 100% supplement, some of the sailings have reduced supplements. I think the studios are overpriced.

I agree, last year on Breakaway, I booked last minute guarantee balcony. It was $100 less then studio.

I sailed solo on the Sky as my first NCL. I had a casino comp cruise from a local casino, so I cannot help with pricing. However, I was very comfortable on this short cruise as a single traveler and had a blast. We only had one port on the trip, Nassau. I had done some research pre cruise and simply walked to the National Art Gallery to see a specific collection and ended up bumping into the artist while touring the show, very cool and very inexpensive. There were local police and other tourists along the route, I felt welcomed and safe taking my walk. Once back in town I took a taxi to Atlantis just to check the place out, no excursion. The taxi was far more risky than my walk had been, lol.

I am booked using the same kind of offer for a solo holiday cruise on the Dawn. Now that I know more and since it is a longer cruise I will make an effort to connect with the organized solo travelers group onboard. I'm really looking forward to this trip. I also plan to buy the thermal suite pass. I have the excursion credit so I will venture into each port on an NCL excursion, safe, easy and worry free from a time standpoint.

Both these cruises were/are in an Inside cabin. Family cruises on the Getaway and Escape are in balcony cabins. I've been pleased with the NCL product (Sky and Getaway so far).

Happy planning and have a great cruise!

I just did a solo cruise. I really enjoyed it but I did find that I missed having my family with me more than I thought I would. What also helped for me was getting the Vibe pass. That way you sort of double your odds with meeting people in the solo meet ups as well as in Vibe/Posh. Since most people who get Vibe/Posh passes are there a bunch throughout the week you make friends that way as well, most of them not being solos so it's another crop of friends that you can connect with.
