We are looking for a cruise for 5 - 9 days.

Travelling 2 adults and a 8 mth baby.

What should we book?

Flying in to Florida.. so anything departing from Florida

Thank you in advance.

The proper answer will entirely depend on your budget and the type of cruise you want to take.

It depends on what your family likes to see and do. Western-many Mayan Ruins, Southern-very hot, more turquoise waters & Eastern-some rainforests and others have forts IMO. You really need to do your homework to see which itinerary interested you then look into the ports. Beware, it will keep you up ALL NIGHT searching here but get great ideas. That's how I decide.[emoji6]

I have only traveled on Royal but I would definitely recommend it with an infant. We traveled with our 6 month old daughter on the Liberty of the Seas. They had babysitting, a special area in the pool for babies and toddlers, and borrow a toy program. The babysitting was nice because you received a phone so they can contact immediately if there is any type of issue. We kept borrowing different toys for the baby and even had picnics at night under the stars. They let us borrow a large blanket from the nursery and we played it out on a very slow traffic area and just played and listened to the waves!

Talk to a cruise travel agent. They should ask you a bunch of questions about budget and interest and be able to get you started in the right direction.

I second this. Talking face to face with a cruise specialist will be much better than trying to select a cruise based on people's opinions on here.

I'd suggest as a departure port Ft. Lauderdale or Miami; Canveral (Orlando) is a long ride from MCO (Orlando airport) and there's no particular reason to go through there unless you're planning a side trip to Disney OR you have a particular ship and iteniary you really want.

As you've got a small baby, you MIGHT want to avoid port calls that require you to "tender," - that is, the ship doesn't dock pierside, but instead disembarks passengers onto 'party boats,' which then go ashore. Half Moon Cay (Holland/Carnival) in the Bahamas is a tender port (sadly). You'd just have to be comfortable getting into a boat that's bobbing up and down with the baby. Might not be an issue. Cayman Islands are another tender port.

Carnival out of Ft Lauderdale has lots of 5 day trips that visit no-tender required ports such as Grand Turk, Ocho Rios, etc. Cozumel, as noted, has interesting archeological stuff to visit, and you won't run into Spring Breakers in September.

As far as cruise lines, my experiences are limited to Holland America, Princess and Carnival; but of all those, Carnival is the most child-accommodating. You might want a little time off to go to a show or whatever, so consider onboard child care availability.

Have fun!

Disney has by far the best options for infants as far as child care goes. The nursery is available during meal times and open while the ship is in port--this is not the case on most other lines. Disney also offers reasonably priced transfers on a deluxe motorcoach from Orlando International airport to Port Canaveral.

Their seven night cruises are wonderful, and they don't nickel and dime as much as most of the other mainstream lines do.

They also have photo ops with Mickey and Minnie :)

I'll plug Dr. Suess and the Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast.

anyway...

Do you have a man version of that Week Plus 2 Week Europe packing list?

I did a TA with a week in Italy last year and way overpacked...and am about to do it in reverse (week in Morocco with a TA back).

Meanwhile, for the OP, Childcare and port calls - !

Also another thing to check is the minimum age requirement for infants. Some lines the child needs to be older than 10 months. Be sure to look at ALL the information on the cruise line's website.

To the poster that mentioned this about Disney

Their seven night cruises are wonderful, and they don't nickel and dime as much as most of the other mainstream lines do.

That is because their base fare is about 85% higher than other mainstream lines.

Do you have any idea on what you want to see and do?

It may be helpful if you spend some time reading on the Caribbean ports of call here:

For me any cruise that fits my budget and the itinerary is favourable but then I do prefer Celebrity, then Royal followed by Princess. Loyalty perks can sometimes swing a cruise more favourable if everything else is relatively equal.

Sept 15 highest possible hurricane date. Most of better ships also in or coming back from Europe or Alaska.Wait until late October for better cruise selection and pricing.

A meaningless statistic. Many ships do not return to the Caribbean until October or later only because greater revenues are available in the Med or Alaska.

Typically there is hurricane activity SOMEWHERE IN THE CARIBBEAN for two to five days each September -- this means that for about 25 days there is no hurricane activity anywhere in the Caribbean. If there is such activity involving the area in which you are cruising, the ship will simply change course to avoid.

Your only real concern is that there is a slight chance that you might visit St. Maarten in stead of Cozumel, or vice versa.
