Sweet Dutch Girl Posted August 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Carnival is always our first choice when we travel with the under 18s in our family. There is so much for them to do and it makes family vacations very enjoyable. Why do you choose Carnival for your vacation even after reading all the negatives generated on CC? First and Ten Posted August 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) Carnival is always our first choice when we travel with the under 18s in our family. There is so much for them to do and it makes family vacations very enjoyable. Why do you choose Carnival for your vacation even after reading all the negatives generated on CC? I choose Carnival mostly due to the price point and the convenience of ports....the product they put out is just as good (all around) as the other mass market cruiselines....All of my Carnival cruises have been very good - excellent....why change? cruzeluver Posted August 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2016 The put out a good product for the money and have a good variety of ships at ports not far from me. We sail multiple lines as we love the variety and don't want the exact same cruise experience every time out. With Carnival we expect good accommodations, decent food, decent entertainment and a reasonable value. When we want a bit more and are willing to pay for it we go with Celebrity and would sail them more if they home-ported a ship closer to us. When price and other factors work out we will book Royal as well.

I think over 3.5 million people a year agree with you as to fun family vacations. The CC boards for all of the other cruise lines and forums I visit have their naysayers, too. Each cruise line has their strong and weak points and Carnival offers a very good product and value on par with the other mass market cruise lines. Warm Breezes Posted August 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2016 I do not always choose Carnival. But we have chosen them for 8 out of our 14 cruises and for 1 of our next 2 cruises. I choose Carnival when they are the best fit for our vacation wants/needs at the price we are willing to pay.
pusywillow Posted August 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2016 I cruise whatever line offers me a free cruise. I have sailed both Princess and Carnival. If another line sends me an offer, I'll go with them.

MsVulcan Posted August 26, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2016 After cruising 2 times each on Princess and Royal, I am going on my first Carnival cruise in January to the Western Caribbean. My parents (let's face it, they're old :D) told me the same things all the nay-sayers say about Carnival. I chose Carnival for this cruise because of the itinerary and most bang for the buck, which is how I choose all of my cruises. I know my son and I will have a great time on this cruise. We will be fed, entertained, and cleaned up after. And we'll be out at sea! Does it really get any better than that?

Vulcan, legit question....Your parents who warned you about Carnival, have they ever taken a cruise on Carnival or just parroting all the urban legends out there? If they did take a Carnival cruise, was their cruise that bad? Edited August 26, 2016 by First and Ten
richfret Posted August 26, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2016 The first step is "Admission" and I admit: "I am a Cruise-a-holic!" My wife has a good time on the cruise but only comes along since I cruise. We have been on 19 Carnival cruises, have number 20 booked for February and I am planning the 2018 cruise. Probably buy it on the February cruise for the $100 OBC. We do the Carnival gift card thing so that takes off 10% off the cruise price and the S&S card. We are FVIP and would not change to another cruise line and miss the benefits. Living in Florida makes it so much easier to cruise and certainly less expensive. It's a 2 hour run by car and very convenient when you park across the street from the ship. I like excursions, limited gambling, unlimited eating, entertainment, the sea, the ports and the crews care. Also SHIP-on-a-Stick if I am lucky. Oh Oh, that did it! Now I am all nervous and anxious for the cruise and I will have to take a sip of cruise pictures to get by. Just 172 days to go. "What's wrong with you?" My wife just reminded me, I have to go to work. Captain Rich
Viesczy Posted August 26, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2016 We don't have any particular line loyalty, just idea of what we want to do when and then we pick the line based that. When we want to just chillax and veg out while @ sea, HAL or Princess are our go to lines. When we want to life about the ship for most of the day with fun things to do other than bingo and trivia, Carnival and NCL and RCI are our choices. Now as to why CCL, they offer a great product with where they go and what there is on board while getting you there. Rooms to shows to food to life, nothing "bad" about their offering. Can'tWait2SetSail Posted August 26, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 26, 2016 I have never had a bad cruise on any line and I really did not see that much difference between RCL and Carnival. I book the lowest price for the time period I want to cruise and that usually is Carnival.
originalgeek Posted August 26, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 26, 2016 I like 'em probably because I don't know any better. Our first cruise was a 3 day to Freeport on Bahama Celebration several years ago. Tiny boat where everyone around us was complaining about the food, the shows, the boat and I couldn't figure out why they were crying so much about a 150 dollar cruise. We had a fantastic time and it gave me the bug. Fast forward 3 years and I finally got to get back on a ship. This time to celebrate our 30th anniversary on Conquest a month ago. Didn't do half the things I had planned on doing because of scheduling, tiredness, forgetfulness and such but we had a REALLY fantastic time and it reinforced the bug. Started looking for next cruise as soon as we got back - 3 days in December to tide us over until next year when we are trying to coordinate with son and grandchildren for a longer family cruise. Now I get a red card and I have a PVP and and we will be working towards turning that red into gold and then platinum and then diamond. At some point I imagine we will sneak on an Oasis class ship on RC but I'm in no hurry. Same for HAL and probably one or two of the others. I know we intend to do a trans-Atlantic some day and I'd love to go through the Panama Canal at least once and we are definitely going to do Alaska so we'll see what the best options are for all those things at the time we can go. If we win the lottery we may have to look pretty hard at that 140+ day cruise around the world on Viking. So far though, Carnival has made me a very happy cruiser. maldenmusic Posted August 26, 2016 #15 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Carnival has the only ports that are close enough for us to drive to so that is my main reason. If we had to fly it adds so much time (and money) because we live at least 3 hours from the closest airport.
ryano Posted August 26, 2016 #16 Share Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) I came back to Carnival for a lot of reasons. Royal has gotten "too big for their britches" IMHO. Their prices have gotten outrageous. Their "sales" gimmicks are a joke. Their food is not very good anymore. Their steakhouse use to be special but is now a ripoff to me and not even on par with most chain steakhouses. Service has been on a downward spiral for several years. Drink prices are ridiculous. I could go on and on. Carnival put a 5 year old ship in my favorite homeport. Their prices are still decent. Service and food was the best Ive had yet. Their drink prices are more reasonable. The crew (at least on Magic) more friendly. They have more included food options. Their steakhouse is absolutely incredible. Lido and MDR buffet food is better IMHO. I can deal with the louder decor. I dont know if its that Im a huge Carnival fan or just a huge Magic fan. Either way, I dont have any Royal Caribbean cruises booked and cant wait to get back on Magic! Je Souhaite Posted August 26, 2016 #17 Share Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) Liked Carnival till I stepped aside and tried some other lines. When I came back, their lower pricing was appealing, until I saw the lesser offering. Some like the subway, some like the limo, and both will get you there. The problem is, do I like to ride with other subway riders, or other limo takers. There's the difference. Florings Posted August 26, 2016 #21 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Never sailed another cruise line, so nothing to compare. I return to Carnival because I have always loved every single day of each cruise - and the value just cannot be beat. I always look at others, but always end up back with Carnival.
