Will there be a lot of kids on the Crown Princess on April 8 to Hawaii?

We only do Disney cruises and they have an outstanding kids club and always have a ton of kids on board regardless of the date. So our 10 year old son always has a blast. We are going on the cruise during spring break so we are hoping there are lots of kids. Are the chances good that this will be the case?

The longer the cruise, the less chance there will be many kids, and the more chance there will be a lot of seniors. Hawaii is a two week cruise, and that is too long for most kids or working adults to take off from school or work. Usually the kids I see are home schooled for this reason.

On March 8th call Princess and ask.

On a 15 day cruise probably not many, don't know too many spring breaks that last until April 23rd.

We've been on Hawaii cruises 4 times. There are always kids. Never a huge amount, but they're there.

Princess has a kid's club that gets good reviews.

We did a Panama cruise on the Pacific Princess (smallest ship in the fleet). This ship usually does long haul and round the world cruises and doesn't even have a space for the kid's club.

The cruise was in Dec and Dec/Jan (B2B 34 days total) and there were maybe 10 kids on both legs. The ship had 2 kid's club ladies and used the card room for their space. It looked like the kids were having a great time.

Spring Breaks vary throughout the country.

They are a popular time to cruise.

There will more than likely be some kids, but not too many.

Our spring break is earlier, but I've found that they vary throughout.

You can always call Princess and ask how many kids in your child's range are booked on the cruise.

They do provide that information.

I've taken the round trip cruise to Hawaii several times and there were never more than a handful of kids and they were mostly toddlers or quite young. School vacations are usually only a week and most parents won't take them out for a second week.

If Disney did a 2-week round trip to Hawaii, there wouldn't be many kids onboard either so you really can't compare the two. Disney doesn't do this itinerary for just that reason: they can't attract families with children to book a longer cruise during the school year.

I think not. Disney caters primarily to kids' fun, second to adults. Princess has the reverse.

We've taken many Disney cruises at various tInes if the year and they are always full of kids.

We've taken many Princess cruises (40+) at various times of the year and they occasionally have a large group of kids. Full of kids like you'd find on Disney? Nope, not on Princess.

Disney always has lots of kids, but the age ranges of those kids vary. And again, the longer the cruise, the fewer the kids. I did a DCL transAtlantic that had only 400 kids and a total of 15 teens. Normal for the Magic is 1000-1200 kids. Reason? 2 week cruise during the school year. Most of the kids on board were toddlers. Yes, there are "year round" school set ups where kids have a month off at odd times and parents who educate their kids at home, but very few kids can take 2 weeks during the traditional school year.

Another example--we cruised DCL during "President's Week" and the CM in charge of the teens had a 5 page list of kids. She commented that the week before she had less than 1/2 a page. And right after Labor Day, DCL will cruise with the full compliment of kids, but they will be mostly preschoolers.

The difference is that on Princess you don't see nearly as much swing in kid ages. What you see is fewer kids total and a lot more elderly people on the longer cruises. But the other thought is that a kid only interacts with a few other kids at the same time. It doesn't really matter if there are 100 9 year olds on the ship or 10; your child will likely only interact with a 3-5 of them at any given moment.

As others have said, during the school year a 2 week cruise (on any line) won't see so many kids. That being said, there will be a kids' club, and it will be open, and the kids who are onboard will be encouraged to come. We once took a 2 week Panama Canal cruise on Princess in January. There were 10 kids onboard total, including our 2. But the kids club was open every day, and it was a 'do what you like'. Whatever the kids wanted, the counselors would set it up: movies, games, crafts, video consoles, etc. My kids did make a couple of friends and had a blast!

Keep in mind that your kids can also come with you to the Hawaiian cultural events. My kids had fun doing lei-making and hula-dancing. Yours might enjoy ukulele lessons. You never know.

As others have said, schools tend to take off only one week for spring break. and different school districts may take different weeks. the Los Angeles Unifed always takes off the week leading up to Easter (back when I was a kid and nowadays too) while some religious schools in the same area usually take off the following week.

So probably not too many kids on a two week cruise (those comparing to a shorter cruise are comparing apples and oranges). But we took this cruise during winter break three times and there were plenty of kids of all ages.

as someone said, there's an excellent Hawaiian cultural program on the Princess Hawaii RTs that will appeal to all ages.

It looks as if you are trying to answer your own question. If I were to guess, I'd say you booked this itinerary on Princess because Disney doesn't offer it. Think about why that is. 15 day cruises loaded with sea days are not the sweet spot for DCL because these itineraries are not school-age friendly. By analogy, imagine someone posting on a Broadway Board:

Q: We are going to see Miss Saigon. Will there be a lot of kids in the audience?"

A: Probably not.

Q: But when we went to see Aladin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and Newsies we saw kids galone in the theaters.

A 15 day cruise to Hawaii is Miss Saigon.
