PA2CRUISE Posted September 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2016 We've had many Carnival inside cabins but the new beautician cabins can be dangerous. Please use caution. I had to move my husband to the side of the bed closer to the door since he cut his head. This is definitely a design flaw.
PA2CRUISE Posted September 20, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted September 20, 2016 I'm sorry. I don't know how to post videos/photos. But check out the Carnival Victory FB page for photos.
Rare sprint180 Posted September 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2016 Or maybe just an explanation of what the issue is would work.
easyboy Posted September 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2016 Yes, maybe a short explanation on how it happened can help us how to be cautious.

PA2CRUISE Posted September 20, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted September 20, 2016 With the new cabins, there is a very tight space to walk between the bed and the wall cabinent. So with this and since the new cabins have the upper cabinetry sticking out, it can cause any tall person to hit their head. You would actually have to duck or move your head to the side when walking past it. And the corner of it is not rounded at all which makes it even more dangerous. DH is 6"1 and he easily cut his head. Thankfully it wasn't a major cut. We estimated that anyone around 5"8' or taller would have an issue. He hit his head while sober and in the daytime. Can you imagine the impact if it was on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night - or if he was intoxicated? To further avoid this issue, we changed his side of the bed to the other side and tried to make sure he didn't have to use that side of the room. I added a pic to cruiselinerooms to show. http://www.shipcabins.com/popup_cabin.php?ship=Carnival%20Victory&cabin=2358
easyboy Posted September 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2016 You are right. That cabinet fastened to the wall is dangerous for tall fellows I hope you DH is feeling better. Thanks for sharing.
tamirpr Posted September 21, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Wow! That is dangerous. Hope your hubby is okay!
Rare broberts Posted September 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2016 An odd design. It's too bad that Carnival did not put a red or yellow caution strip on the corner.

RuthlessBoss Posted September 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 21, 2016 What was the cabinet purpose?
fshstck Posted September 21, 2016 #12 Share Posted September 21, 2016 What was the cabinet purpose? Going on a guess here, but probably to put stuff in. Like clothes, books, etc.
Cruise-Crazy Posted September 21, 2016 #13 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Yes, I think I would have to watch out got that too. Not a good design.
RuthlessBoss Posted September 21, 2016 #14 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Going on a guess here, but probably to put stuff in. Like clothes, books, etc. But that's an unusual spot if it's intended for passenger use. I wouldn't use it up there.
CookiePie Posted September 21, 2016 #15 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Ouch! I wonder if you've sent that pic to CCL and told them your experience? Looks like a total over sight IMHO.
Rare LMaxwell Posted September 21, 2016 #16 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Is that cabinet even usable? Surprised they haven't rounded the corner? Maybe they can retrofit some stick on rubber nubs to alleviate the sharp corner.
cb at sea Posted September 21, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Go to the medical center...ask for tape and gauze...make your own "corner protector"! Or, bring some tape...and wad up a kleenex and tape it up there!
maldenmusic Posted September 21, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 21, 2016 The designers didn't think this through very well it seems.
PA2CRUISE Posted September 22, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted September 22, 2016 Is that cabinet even usable? Surprised they haven't rounded the corner? Maybe they can retrofit some stick on rubber nubs to alleviate the sharp corner. I looked at another pic I had and from what I can tell, it's not useable for passenger use. There are light fixtures underneath but I have no idea why the cabinets are so big.
PA2CRUISE Posted September 22, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted September 22, 2016 The designers didn't think this through very well it seems. Definitely not. All other cabins the upper cabinets flow so nothing sticks out as a danger.
Mikew0805 Posted September 22, 2016 #21 Share Posted September 22, 2016 This is an obvious safety issue that CCL should address immediately.
pe4all Posted September 22, 2016 #22 Share Posted September 22, 2016 No doubt you should send your picture and a description of what happened to Carnival, or send an email with a link to this thread. Hope dh is okay. Did he seek medical treatment, so at least Carnival has a record of how the injury happened? Or report it to Guest Services. I am sure your dh won't be the last to hit that poorly designed cabinet.
Viesczy Posted September 22, 2016 #23 Share Posted September 22, 2016 The designers didn't think this through very well it seems. ^Agreed. It is a sad state that those who design many things have no actual experience prior to their design nor using their design after it being implemented. As far as the OP's situation.... yeesh that'll put you on the ground w tears welling in your eyes! EEK!
