lisabbscott Posted November 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Hi, does anyone know how medical care is charged? We were on the Oasis last week and my MIL fell ice skating and broke her arm. The medical center x-rayed it and wrapped it in a splint until she could get a cast. She wasn't charged on her sea pass card or credit card. Do they bill you through the mail? Any idea what they charge? She is very concerned about the cost. Thanks! Sent from my SM-T530NU using Forums mobile app
Clarea Posted November 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Anytime we used the medical department, we were charged on the SeaPass card.
jgallagh1944 Posted November 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Don't travel anywhere outside US without purchasing travel insurance first; inexpensive and you hope you never need it. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
FunCruiser56 Posted November 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 17, 2016 the times we used the medical center on the ship the cost was charged to our sea pass card. I will say that the cost was MUCH less than we thought it would be. Hope your MIL recovers quickly. Most likely, because it was an accident that happened on the ship, they chose not to bill for medical care.
lisabbscott Posted November 17, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Thank you for all the replies! She will be thrilled to know they didn't charge her. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Forums mobile app
Langley Cruisers Posted November 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Poor thing! How awful. :( I hope she was in fair to good spirits, still.
vegascruiser1 Posted November 17, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2016 If they didn't add charges to her sea pass she will not get charged. I fell off a step on the ship in February, they didn't charge me and I never got a bill. Hope she has a speedy recovery.
oneputt18 Posted November 17, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I had my toe broken when a cruiser pushed open the bathroom door on the pool deck. I was not charged for medical care. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
crosby99 Posted November 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 17, 2016 So it seems if you get injured at fault of the ship in same way you don't get charged. Does that suggest the waivers for ice skating etc don't actually stand up in a court?

Can't answer the legal question, but I do know from friends that if you are injured on a ship excursion, you are also not charged.
4774Papa Posted November 17, 2016 #12 Share Posted November 17, 2016 We know people on Celebrity cruises that were injured while on a Celebrity excursion and not charged for medical treatment.
mixplix Posted November 17, 2016 #13 Share Posted November 17, 2016 my son broke his arm roller blading on the AOS in April 2015. Ship's doctor examined, xrayed and splinted, and sent us to ortho in St. Lucia. No bill from ship - large bill from ortho, which was reimbursed six months later by health insurance. Shekim Posted November 17, 2016 #14 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I slipped and fell in our stateroom the first night of the cruise. The next day our stateroom attendant finally talked me into going to medical. They took xrays and recommended that I get off the ship in Jamaica and seek additional medical attention. No thank you. I had pulled/torn my ham string and couldn't walk. The ship loaned me a wheelchair for as long as I needed it. I was never charged for the visit to medical on board. sdrocks Posted November 17, 2016 #15 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I broke my arm in the gym on Anthem in February. When I questioned about the charges, they said no charge when an accident. And yes we get travel insurance every cruise, so was covered in case.

I am assuming since it is cheaper for them they just take care of the medical bill instead of trying to fight it in court and have bad press.
