Weather can really ruin port calls, especially when tendering. Missed the Falklands on O -- calmest day of the year -- but the Captain lost the anchor. Finally made it on Silver Explorer.

 

I have missed Saint Barts three times all on O. Needless to say St Bart is now on my bucket list -- need to add this as a country. :D

We are on the Marina January 2018 Lima to Papeete. Keep our fingers crossed we'll be able to tender to the Easter Island. Can you please share the tour operator that you used to arrange a private tour. Also, in your very unfortunate case of missing the island, did the tour company keep your deposits or you were refunded?

 

We always prefer private tours where it's possible, but debating now if the ship tour is safer with a possibility for the ship to leave earlier without notice if the weather quickly change.

Easter Island Travel (check Trip Advisor).

We were able to tender from Marina on day 1 but seas too rough for day two. Owner Marcus offered partial refund for day 2. Excellent guide with decent lunch and dance show.

Easter Island is not to be missed (even if you risk missing it!)

Pitcairn is also desirable. But, there, O anchors and about 90% of the 45+ inhabitants do come aboard for lectures and arts/crafts sale.

I hate to disappoint you but it isn't a country - not in the strict sense.

It can count as a destination but not a country. It is an "overseas collectivity" of France (kind of, but not exactly, like French Polynesia and Reunion) :D

What flags do they fly - not counting State and Provincial flags (if we count those then USA has 50 countries).

I know, it's just a fun game - nothing to lose sleeep over :)

Well, it's obviously important to PaulMCO (and others) - even if it's not important to you.

I usually ignore and don't respond to posts that are not "important" to me rather than telling them not to post and only post about things that are important to me.

For example, I never respond to posts about drinking because I don't drink and have nothing of value to offer to those that do. That is a subject that is not important to me but I do realize that it is very important to others - so I let it be.

O.K. I agree with you, but still what does it have to do with what we want to know if it is a country or not? Does not give us any useful information about Oceania or any ports or tours or anything else to do with our cruise knowledge. Lets not clutter up these boards with nonsense.
