MTD vs CK

That's up to you, if you want to tell them on ship you could, for the nights you won't eat there

CK is not on my cruise planner, some have said its on theirs

We have MTD but did not pick any times, as we probably will not eat there

I would cancel the MTD dining times on those nights you make CK reservations, so that others can use your MTD table. You may want to wait until you are onboard to make CK plans so you can take a look at the menus.

I haven't seen it on mine either, the only reason I booked dinning times... to match our schedule. We are in GS, does the CK do a good job meeting times for a party of 2? Is there many 2 up or 4 up tables in the CK?

Actually, we were on Oasis in Jan, and never knew about the CK?? But because of CC, SO thinks I am a cruise expert now.... LOL

All of the tables are the same, o/a, 4'x4', they put them together to make for larger parties depending on demand, there has been one large oval table that can seat 10. Yes, they meet the times just fine

We are going to find out about harmony coming up

So, hold them until we board and get good times in CK or release them now?

We (2) just sailed Allure in November and never had an issue getting a table in CK. We never RSVP'ed. We usually went later than most people 7:30 - 8:30 and would have a cocktail in the SL. Alana would have us a table within 10-15 minutes of us arriving. Most times she could seat us as soon as we walked in, but we like sitting in the SL with a cocktail for a few before eating.

Never saw CK listed in cruise planner. It might have helped that I gave her a few $ on the second night.

You'll want to head directly to CK upon embarkation and reserve dinners in CK for the week. Now that JS are allowed for dinner they are MUCH busier. Sailed Oasis last month, was in CK at 11:30 and the only times they had for us all week were 5:30, 6, 8:30, and 9. Suites get preference. Towards the end we tried to move our reservation and were told they were completely full.

I'd keep the MTD bookings. If you choose to eat in CK, just phone them or show up and cancel your reservation for that specific evening. Also CK menu changes 3 times, first menu the first 3 nights, then the other two menus each of the next 2 evenings. You might find you prefer the MDR over one of the menus.

We are in a GS and will not board early. We are a party of 2. Do you think we will have problem getting times to dine??

How many were in your party and were you in GS or above (Sky & Star Class).

I will probably write the Concierge in advance regarding seating times. Two ports we will be there late, 7 PM. Other than those two port days, I have MTD in MDR dinner times scheduled to meet expected eating times.

How good is CK about taking full suite guest as walk ins ??? What about shorts in CK?? We wear proper suggested attire but would prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, shorts.

Thanks

On the Oasis and Allure we always request our dinner reservations through the Concierge when we receive their Welcoming E-mail. For our April 2017 cruise on the Harmony we were able to make our dinner reservations for the Coastal Kitchen online.

Saw many cruisers wearing shorts during dinner on all of our previous cruises on the Allure and Oasis. I always wear dress pants during the formal nights.

On our October 2016 cruise on the Oasis, they also started serving lunch in the Coastal Kitchen on port days. Cannot remember if they did the same on our May 2016 cruise on the Allure.

In May we had a Family cruise. We had a CL and our children and grandchildren were in 3 GS. Total of 11. We had dinner every evening in the Coastal Kitchen.

We were Sea Class (in a JS). Some nights party of 4, some nights 2 (wife and I like to have a couple of dinners alone :-) ). I imagine many Star+ guests made reservations through the concierge pre-cruise. As for walk-ins, we were in a GS a year ago when JS were not given access and had zero issues walking in. We saw several people turned away as walk-ins on our Oasis sailing. The deeper we got into the cruise, the busier they seemed to be. The last night was packed. Better to make reservations and TRY to modify them if needed than try to walk-in and be turned away.

We are on Harmony in Feb and CK appears as an option for reservations.

I had already booked our MTD reservations (as soon as the option for making dining reservations was available - and it opened up VERY early for this sailing for some reason) and I still have them on the books but doubt that I will eat in the MDR much since all of the specialty dining is included in our fare (I started to say that specialty dining was "free" for us but we all know that nothing is free - you pay for it, one way or the other !). We are going to leave everything as-is for now (MTD rezzies and no specialty or CK dining booked). If it turns out to be a mistake to do that, I will only have myself to blame. We will see how much "pull" the Genie really has !

I just looked again and see no option to reserve dinning times in the CK.

Is this just an option only for Harmony? Where did you find CK on Dinning? Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

Do they give JS reservations for the entire week the first day? We would like a more flexible dinning plan, enjoy the SL more....???

Thanks for all the input.

We were just on Harmony last month in a GS (no Genie). With a Genie you should have no trouble getting into CK. They are very accommodating to suite guests in both the Suite Lounge and Coastal Kitchen on HOTS. Enjoy your cruise!

Menu in Allure CK is now different every night. They started that on our Halloween cruise. There will be a 4-5 items they serve every night and then 5-6 that change out. We never had an issue finding something every night between the two selections.

Personally, I think you might feel under dressed in shorts after dark at CK or SL. It's a little more upscale than shorts. I wore slacks and collared shirt, but saw plenty of sport coats and a few ties.

JS had access on our cruise and like I said we never had an issue getting a seat. But again we never wanted to eat before 8:00; even did 9:00 one night and the place was empty. I am guessing around 6:00 - 6:30 it might be different.

Yes, Harmony & Quantum-class ships can be booked through the cruise planner. We're in a JS on Anthem May 2017 and I booked CK every night at least 2 months ago!

We have a GS booked, no Genie for us..... unless the Casino upgrades us and I think a sharp stick in the eye would be more likely. LOL

As a general rule, we wear appropeate cloths in the SL ( for me slacks/jeans and collared shirt) so it shouldn't present an issue to CK, as we like to hit the SL before heading to dinner.

We have MTD MDR reservations for 6:30 all nights except for our late port days.

Not sure now what help the Concierge would be as most everyone in CK has access to them also.

Thank you for your input. This is our first cruise with access to the CK and looking forward to it. (But it would be nice to feel comfortable in shorts)

We found that to be true. When we first boarded I asked the Concierge about RSVP for CK and he told me to go see Alana the CK hostess. BTW: she was much more helpful throughout the entire cruise.

Great info to have..... Not sure CC tracks the CK host or hostess.. hope she is still there in Jan but many regulars out for the holidays. I bet the Concierge is overwhelmed with Suite Guest..... but I thought many had their Genie....

I have been meaning to ask... does the Genie sleep in ones cabin or you rub the lamp to have them show up?

Now that's funny!

Dexter and Ana were the concierges in November. But Dex was going home for about nine weeks. Ana didn't say when her leave was. Her husband works on the ship also so going home wasn't that far away for her.
