CarnivalCreed Posted December 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2016 I noticed that Carnival always has a little ad for their credit card towards the bottom of the home page. Is there any benefit to having this card whatsoever in regards to any perks on the ships or within Carnival in general? Or anything not mentioned? coevan Posted December 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2016 many rewards cards blow out Carnivals. Capital One for instance 2 for 1 points on all expenditures and no foreign transaction fees
Micahs Grandad Posted December 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2016 When it was first introduced it was a worthwhile card. Now many cards are better and we hardly ever use it anymore

Micahs Grandad Posted December 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2016 I have one and I do use it. I get a $100 OBC last cruise with my points. OK but here is the thing. You get 1% with all travel except 2 with Carnival stuff. I get 3% for ALL travel and restaurants and 5% for gas purchases with my Sams card. When Sam's introduced this my Carnival M/C stayed in my pocket.

29dawgs Posted December 10, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 10, 2016 Also look at the Barclay Arrival card. 2X points on everything plus you get 5% of your points back when you use them on travel. They offer a 50K bonus if you send 3K in the first 3 months. We have almost paid for our entire cruise with points from this card.

I have this card and HATE it-- I've never had such horrible customer service with any bank! Chase reserve is the BEST travel card out there. Best card I've ever had!
denatravels Posted December 10, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) Yup, that's the one I use. It's rated as the best travel rewards card out there + no annual fee. Best card I've ever had! It may be best for no fee, but it doesn't have the best rewards overall. I end up getting 4.5% on travel with chase reserve. 2% doesn't touch that. Yes, there is a fee ($150 net), but the value is incredible. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited December 10, 2016 by denatravels
Rare IntrepidFromDC Posted December 10, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 10, 2016 I used to use the Carnival MasterCard for Carnival bookings and onboard expenses and then realized my Citi DoubleCash offers more even on Carnival expenses. No fee, 2% cash back credited right to your monthly statement on everything. I have QuickSilver too, but it only pays 1-1/2% back.

dmdiver Posted December 10, 2016 #14 Share Posted December 10, 2016 We have a Carnival MC but have talked about going to something that is better. Double points on CCL expenditures is all well & good, but I prefer a card that will give me more back. If you want to redeem for anything other than credit towards a CCL expense, it just doesn't seem all that great. Just haven't decided what card to go with - we had a card with a fee a long time ago, but felt it just wasn't worth it compared to some of the others out there. The reason we got the Carnival card in the first place was to get the instant statement credit of $50 for applying.

magictam Posted February 2, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 2, 2017 I have this card but only got it recently. I was trying to get a $100 dollar gift card for weeks and they kept showing sold out. finally showed some options but no gift cards just onboard credit or purchase carnival merchandise. I redeemed $50 in onboard credit and $25 cruise cash bar credit. but they are not showing up on my S&S account. Anybody know how or when you get these. Thanks for the help. ryano Posted February 2, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Not a great card at all. It cost me 12,500 points for a 100.00 onboard credit so not only did I have to use up all the 10,000 I got for applying but had to use 2500 more I had built up. Unless you are using the card for carnival purchases only, you basically have to spend 12,500 dollars to get a measly 100.00 OBC. Now that I have redeemed all my points, Im thinking about cutting the card up.
ryano Posted February 2, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 2, 2017 but they are not showing up on my S&S account. So you are on a cruise right now? If so, I would go to Guest Services and ask them where your credits are. If you are not actually on a cruise right now, it is my understanding that these credits will not show up anywhere until you are actually onboard the cruise. i have a confirmation Im taking with me to make sure I get my 100.
Micahs Grandad Posted February 2, 2017 #19 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Been hoping that CCL will improve the rewards but that doesnt seem to be happening so we will probably chop it up.

Charge your S&S account to the card or use it to pay off some of your cruise. Then "erase" $100 of your purchases with 10,000 points.

For some silly and foolish reason redeemed a lot of points for $ 700 obc for recent cruise figuring remaining obc comes back to me as a check. Went to guest services to make sure obc was refundable and shocked to find out it was not. Cashed out via casino but if I didnt check, me and Carnival would have gone to war over this. Well I don't see me taking any option honestly anymore as I used it for my free $100 and haven't touched it since. There are MUCH better cards out there. Will never happen again if for no reason not using the card much at all. Was amazed that they would classify the obc as nonrefundable. Good thing I believe in trust but verify.:)
