myknbrn Posted December 19, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2016 We'll be on the Celebrity Summit next week and the weather forecasts for our ports are rain and 20-30 MPH winds. Should this be a concern?
Strophic Posted December 19, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2016 I checked a forecast for my cruise a day or two beforehand and it predicted that it would rain in two of the ports, thunderstorming in one of them. There was clear, sunny weather the entire week with just a bit of a drizzle on one of the sea days. Don't sweat the forecasts too much, they're not infallible. VennDiagram Posted December 19, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2016 We'll be on the Celebrity Summit next week and the weather forecasts for our ports are rain and 20-30 MPH winds. Should this be a concern? Often those forecasts for "rain" are for a part of a day, not an entire day.
cb at sea Posted December 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2016 It's windy on islands ALL THE TIME.....don't you remember your geography? Any place with a mountain causes wind AND rain!...especially if it's in the middle of an ocean...all that humidity...the wind and humidity cross a landmass..meet a mountain, rise, compress, condense..wind and rain are the result. It doesn't last long..and it will stay hot. No worries.

leaveitallbehind Posted December 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2016 (edited) We'll be on the Celebrity Summit next week and the weather forecasts for our ports are rain and 20-30 MPH winds. Should this be a concern? In short, no In the Southern Caribbean (which I am guessing is the itinerary) storms can come and go and unless it is a large storm system, any rainy weather will likely be transient. zqvol Posted December 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 20, 2016 We'll be on the Celebrity Summit next week and the weather forecasts for our ports are rain and 20-30 MPH winds. Should this be a concern? Not that there is anything you can do about it, but IMO the winds would be a bigger concern than the rain. Winds can make for rough seas and an unpleasant ride. Best advice take a poncho or rain jacket and sea sick meds.
SPacificbound Posted December 20, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Wind is normal in the Caribbean and islands. Rain usually passes through, not spending the day. Don't let it ruin your good times.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 20, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 20, 2016 We have encountered rainy days while on vacation in the Caribbean, Med, Alaska, etc. Go with the flow and enjoy your cruise.
Rare GeezerCouple Posted December 20, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 20, 2016 It rained EVERY DAY of our recent vacation in Barbados. ... just as the weather forecast had indicated. EVERY DAY! ... for about 5 minutes, a few days more than once. Most were light rain, and we could see the blue sky around the small storm cloud (if it can be called a "storm" cloud). Once, it was absolutely torrential, and we wouldn't have wanted to be caught outside. The entire sky was gray, and we thought, "This time, it's going to keep raining and raining!" Nope, not even then. Ten minutes later, the pavements/roads were already drying in the heat. I'm sure there are some serious rains, but that's not necessarily at all what is likely to be happening when there is some "X% probability of rain".
