B_Mc Posted January 8, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2017 (edited) DH and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary with a holiday trip on beautiful Jewel OTS. We are set on a balcony cabin (right price and right size for us) but having a hard time picking the optimum cabin in our category. We have previously sailed in connecting JS on deck 10 and did not enjoy the rumble of noise from above. I wanted to book something lower deck than 10, not adjoining and towards the aft. I selected 7652 because of the interesting looking balcony but now we're having our doubt about being directly above club/bar type venues. Before I call royal, what would be your first choice balcony cabin on deck8? Or is there a compelling reason to go to another deck? There are a few here with extended balconies that have me intrigued. Many thanks for your advice! Edited January 8, 2017 by B_Mc
KeywestK Posted January 8, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2017 I have been in 7092 (directly beneath 8086) and loved the pie-shaped balcony. But I also loved 8088, which has the long balcony. Both were terrific. But note that the balconies on deck 7 have lifeboats directly beneath them, and that does hamper the view a bit. I would go with Deck 8 if those were my choices. Many people complain about "noise" coming up from the Centrum, as that is a well used venue for music most evenings. The fire doors to the hallways are kept closed after dinner, and for me, the sounds were muffled and did not bother us in the lease. But everyone is different, and everyone has different tolerances to "noise."

molly361 Posted January 8, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2017 (edited) We have stayed in one of those cabins right off the hump (8088) and it was way too noisy for us. They did NOT close the fire doors. All the sounds travel right up. I would pick any cabin aft of the Centrum at least 7 cabins down from it. I would stay away from Deck 7 as you stated they are above the bars/nightclubs Edited January 8, 2017 by molly361

The fire doors were not closed on our sailing either. We have also stayed on deck 7 above the safari lounge and could hear the bass late some nights. B_Mc Posted January 8, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted January 8, 2017 Thank you very much for all the feedback! We're definitely going to stay away from the centrum, despite the attractive balconies. Now I'm looking at 8044 or 8544... forward, near the stairs, but slightly different shape of the balcony. Thoughts? Rare mac_tlc Posted January 8, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2017 Just my 2c, but I am not a fan of being unable to look in both directions off the balcony and see water. Having 8042/8542 and 8040/8540 jut out beyond my cabin isn't great to me. Instead of 8044/8544, I would move a little farther down the hall to 8556 or 8558. Still pretty close to the stairs. mac_tlc

Nettee Posted January 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 8, 2017 (edited) I would go forward of the lifeboats so I could look down at the sea but I suppose there is more movement and it is further from the stairs and there could be noise from the theatre.
