What did Carnival get right on the Breeze that they got wrong on the Vista?

There's nothing wrong with the Vista. Some people had unrealistic expectations of nirvana like perfection. Other people complain about insignificant things like not liking the decor or how the atrium was designed. The ship is seaworthy, has food, and entertainment. What else is needed?

Agree. For many years the ongoing CC lament was how Carnival took the Destiny class and expanded the same basic layout to the Conquest class and expanded the basic layout again to the Dream class.

The Vista is not a totally radical 100% makeover but there are some significant changes to the Deck 4 and 5 public Promenades, the Atrium, Limelight and Havana Lounges and the Lanai.

Changes like these have those looking for the same old/same old familiar Carnival layout expressing disappointment. And those who can adapt and have a fun time away on a cruise ship, any cruise ship, regardless of the physical layout, posting great videos, positive reviews and enjoying their Carnival Vista experience .

Been on Dream class a bunch of times and so far only read about Vista.

From what I have ready, know venue for comedy club way too small, piano bar got shrunk much less seats around the piano and main lounge too small.

Will give it a try down the road a bit but since these items are important to us dont expect to become a fan of Vista class.

Having sailed on the Breeze and Dream and just returned from the Vista, my opine is that the biggest difference is structurally in the spa area. Vista has a smaller spa than many ships. Thalasso pool is tiny and water is murky. 7 heated loungers in the same space as the t-Pool. Steam rooms are not steamy. No separate locker room for spa and gym. Men's locker room 2 showers, 2 sinks, 2 toilets, no urinals. Even the Liberty has a bigger locker room for their gym. The water rowing machines should be junked and replaced with C2 machines. These aren't your Orange Therapy water rowers. Interior spa cabins have smaller closets. And there are no glass elevators in the atrium.

What is different and in many ways better on the Vista is the presence of the Havana Deck cabins. These look fantastic. Book these versus spa or cove balconies. They do go quickly. The casino is down on deck 4; no need to trudge through the smoke to get from one end of the ship to the other. Sports bar is separated from others. Red Frog Pubs own brews (decent crafts, not the best, but far, far from the worst), not marketing swill from AmBev. Specialty dining galore. Sky Ride. Large Serenity deck with more clamshells and little individual canopy cabanas. Still crowded on sea days but bigger than other ships. Good salads for noon time. Lots of outside seating and loungers on the promenade deck.

Knowing what I now know, if we book the Vista again, we'll go Havana versus Spa. but DW still says the Dream is her favorite ship.

I have a spa cabin coming up on the Vista. It was stated that there wasn't even a Thallaso pool on the Vista, just a whirlpool. Which is it?

The Vista has so many more advantages than the Breeze, and the Breeze was our favorite ship till we sailed on the Vista. I can list them if you want.

Yes please ! I would love to hear. What do you love like and dislike about Breeze and same for Vista. Also, have you sailed Magic ? I'm pretty sure that's what we'll be cruising next year so I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it compares to Breeze and Vista

Here is a link to my Vista review, it has lots of pics, and some of the items I can talk to. Been on the Vista and Dream and the Magic twice.

Vista has the best entertainment of the fleet, diverse, interactive and worth while. The entire Havana area (which was piloted on the Sunshine redo) is a great area with bar and evening entertainment and the Havana Cabana rooms are truly unique (we are staying in on in April on our next sailing on the Vista). Every restaurant has some seating outside, so if you wanted to dine in the Steakhouse, you can actually eat outside (weather permitting).

She has a great waterworks and the skyride is something really new. This is one thing you need to plan ahead on as the line can back up some. Enhanced climate control that has a unit in every cabin (you do give up some closet space for this, but well worth it in our view).

We found the main shows to be different and very entertaining. They also have 4 violinist who play modern music in the main atrium.

I remember when the Dream was launched - reviews that came out were horrible! People hated it. But then the Magic was launched and suddenly the Dream class was good.

It seems to be the curse of the first ship in a new series. It's destined to be the "scourge of the seas" until the second ship comes out and then it's fine.

Thanks ! I'll check it out.

We cross posted ... I accidentally typed Dream, but then I edited to change it to Breeze that we are talking about in this thread. Sorry ! I meant your thought on Breeze/Vista. :)

Also, Do you have links to any of your reviews of Magic ?

We are just off the Vista this past Saturday. First, let me be POSITIVE about things. The cruise was fun! The weather was great and we loved St Kitts and St. Marten. San Juan was good. Not much to do in Grand Turk unless you left the shopping area. Small Beach was pretty there!

But, for the Vista itself---sorry to say we are not impressed with this new design. Everything seemed a little cramped in to us. We think maybe it was the new I-Max Theater that took up more space--and the Thrills Theater. About $12.95 pp to go in there! There is NO real Showroom/Theater on the Vista as on other ships. They have the Liquid Lounge for shows that is extremely small and blocked by huge support barriers. My sister commented that if they had to evacuate that lounge fast, people would be in trouble. It isn't anything like other Carn. ships we've been on.

Our major complaint---and that of at least 20 people I spoke to---was the dining situation. We booked this cruise 18 months ago. I requested Early Dining. Later, my booking page showed Late Dining. I called several months ago to change this and was told they would Wait-List us for Early. When we boarded the ship, we were told we had "Your Time Dining." First of all, they should change this name to---"Our Time Dining for you--when it's convenient for us!" On our first night, we had to go to the Java (coffee) Café on Deck 5 to get our "ticket" for Dining. We arrived at 6:20pm and waited in line until 6:50. Then we had to proceed down to Deck 3 and wait in line again at the Horizons MDR. It seemed everything was slow and wrong. We tried to change Dining time once again but were told Early and Late were filled.

This makes me think that both main dining rooms were designed just a little bit smaller. On our last night on the ship, we once again went to the dining room. Got in line for our ticket and were given a beeper----we went and found a bar and waited 45 minutes!

We also felt that the pool areas seemed more crowded than usual. At the Tides Pool, the lounge chairs were so close together that they were actually touching. You had to squirm in to sit down. The problem here was that there were umbrellas on each side of the line of chairs that could not be moved. We also had a regular balcony which we felt was just slightly smaller as well. Have to check on this!

Sorry to go on so long. We don't go on a cruise to find fault usually. And a few things I don't like won't ruin the cruise for me. But, all in all, I have to say the Vista is not for us. We heard that the Horizons coming over next year has the same design.

they do seem to have squeezed in too many cabins and other paying venues for the sake of public areas. Took the bad stuff from the Sunshine.

Seems like more people like the Breeze than the Vista and I just wondered why.

The Spa feels cramped. The spa beds are few and too close to the little pool...which liked to overflow. When they had the raffle we were all standing out by the stairs and it seemed like wasted space. Not a fan of their spa.

I had late dining. The service was great but the food was often lukewarm, cold or tasteless. My escargot butter was not even warm. I do like the "Try this" part of the menu. Interestingly I was put at a table of Spanish speakers. They were hospitable but I speak little Spanish. Casino is fine and not smoky. I enjoyed the ropes and the skyride even on a windy day.

I look forward to sailing the Vista in a few months, but I do wish it had the hot tubs on deck 5 like the Breeze... Also, I do like the traditional atrium on the Breeze compared to the shrunken down version on the Vista. I suspect this was done to add extra cabins where there would normally be a large open space.

The Vista does in fact have two hot tubs on deck 5. Its just that the masses cannot get to them prior to 7:00 PM.

Sorry, my mistake in terminology. But yes it's a small whirlpool. Still the water looked murky even with only a single person in it. Might have been the color of the tiles.

We did not experience the "joys of your time dining". But will note that he place where you get your "ticket" as sunnyinlasvegas mentioned is a bit hidden

Not easily spotted. And the future cruise desk was an unmanned table on deck 10 also tucked away. DW tried to go there during open hours and was told 5 minutes after opening at 2P that the lady was going to take a break and come back at 3P. ***!!! Couldn't book for the Horizon anyway.
