another way of putting it is that will i like enjoy the food in the main dining room as well as the one in the specialty restaurant...thanks

No one knows if you will like the MDR food (or the specialty restaurant food, for that matter). But if you have already decided that the dining room food is bad and the specialty restaurant food is good, then you should probably stick to the specialty restaurants, right?

We eat regularly in the MDRs and have had ONE (half) meal in over 100 days that I had to complain about, one piece of veal was tough the other excellent.

You won't have to brave the food in the MDR, it is extremely good. We use the Specialty Restaurants as special meals only.

We eat at the MDRs often. And the food is perfectly fine. You are not fighting for reservations, you enjoy true FreeStyle dining and show up to the MDR when you want.

I don't think the food in the specialty venues is all that special that I'd want to eat in them to the exclusion of other venues. Also, places like Le Bistro and Teppanyaki, for us at least, are the kind of places that are too limited to dine in more than once in a week. (We love Teppanyaki, but once per cruise is enough for us.)

We were on the Gem in January and we found the food to be very good in the MDR and good to very good on the buffet. We had a 4 night specialty dinner package for that 10 day cruise and felt that that was enough because the food in the "included" restaurants was so good and because there were diverse dining options.. Two nights we ate in the Asian restaurant, Prime rib night in the Pub, two nights in the MDR and one night at the buffet. We were not bored and enjoyed each venue. Sure there were some things we ate that were better than others but that really holds true with most of our dining experiences. We will be back on the Gem in May this time with a 3 meal specialty promo package and to be honest if I had to actually buy the package I would not have and would be perfectly happy with this ships included restaurants. .

We would never pay for the speciality restaurants. We get 2 platinum dinners, and one from the casino, more than enough. We find the food is really not that much better in the speciality restaurants, and we enjoy the food - that we already paid for in our fare- in the MDR, or Asian or O'Sheehans

Safe sailing
