Carnival, what happened ? (CARNIVAL GLORY april 15th)

Recommended Posts

Thanks OP for posting. It's always refreshing when people share their bad experiences on Carnival and not sugarcoat things.

Spring Break is not the issue. Every cruise line sails ships in March and April, but only Carnival has the bad reputation that you describe. It's easy to "blame" things, than to accept that this is pretty much normal behavior when you have a lowest cost Cruise line, and major cut backs in service. The crew just gives up, and let's it happen, because, Carnival won't supply enough employees to monitor and police the guest. So you get almost anything goes attitude on the ship.

Most people already know Carnival won't enforce the smoking and eating rules. They gave up on enforcing no kids in the adult areas. Basically, they just change the rules so they no longer need to enforce them. They have a long history of this type of management.

Try other cruise lines. Many people have, and found that cruises are extremely enjoyable when the right ships are picked.

Spring break cruises can be bad on any line. Princess had one where the young teens were throwing deck chairs overboard, etc. Any of the major lines can have a problem, just check the other lines reviews as well.

Lastly, on any of the serious issues, did you notify security or customer service? We have had to call a couple of times for various issues and always had a great response.

that was the problem there was no security around, no one at the pool and one guy in the casino ( he had his hands full believe me )

we never thought off complaining with guest relations, what could they have done ?

I guess there was a lack of staff as our stateroom attendant said "less people have to do more job" and I guess that was the case everywhere, on stage we saw 6 very talented people performing all shows which was incredible as they did all dancing and singing night after night

on the TA the shows were performed with 18 people

I guess that they did not have enough people to do the job properly and I am not sure why almost everyone had to behave that rude

We have cruised before with youngsters and never had any problems

OP, we just debarked the Glory on Saturday and I think this ship has two very different kinds of problems. Management is missing in action. It was the worse muster drill I have experienced in 50 cruises. Everyone had to go to deck 4 and they had the outside doors closed. So before getting to muster we had a traffic jam on the stairs. They finally opened the doors and made us stand outside for 45 minutes. If you are going to scan room keys, do it where we can sit down. Unreal start that made wonder how prepared this crew would be in a real emergency. Then same fiasco at debarkation. Totally disorganized.

When went embarked, the elevators were not working. Nightmare for crew trying to get luggage onboard. This likely explains why we were one and a half hours late leaving Miami. Then on a sea day morning, there was an announcement that the AC was out. This ship just came out of dry dock but it is having electrical problems?

We enjoyed most of the cruise but I don't think we will ever sail the Glory again. Too many other choices out there to accept these issues.

I thought the muster drill on Glory was a disaster as well. It wasn't terribly unorganized, it was just that the ship is designed in a way that everyone really gets smashed in. Plus the drill was outside... lame.

footnote : we loved the ship, no technical problems at all !

This is great to hear. We are used to Carnival 'clientele' and having cruised many of the mainstream lines/types of ships, we've chosen Glory for our family cruise in June. Hoping it will be fun without too much of the "lack of class" that can accompany a cruise. We look forward to showing the kids their first cruise ship experience. It's one of the reasons we chose Glory. The crazy decor, the lively atmosphere all with enhance the first time experience for the kiddos.

Hoping we don't run into too much bad behavior, but we've seen it before. Doesn't ruin the trip, but it definitely makes us shake our collective heads.

the Glory is wonderful, she felt brand new and although not comparable with the somewhat upper classy ship as the Vista, she is a warm and clean beauty and there is enough going on for your family and the kids to have a great time.

We wish you a lovely cruise

I guess it's a good thing that the cigarette was surrounded by an ocean.

Maybe you'd like to read this and look at the picture of what a cigarette thrown overboard can do, even surrounded by ocean.

I saw a woman putting her child, in a diaper, into the swimming pool. I went and got a security guard, who followed me back to the scene of the crime. When he saw them, he turned to me and said "That's OK. He's in a diaper".

We were at the aft pool just as the muster drill alarm went off. A father was lifting his pool when the kid began to throw up. He turned and swung the kid around to the pool, and proceeded to throw up in the pool, which was adult only, BTW.

As I was leaving the area, I went up to the aft bartender and told him what I had just witness, and went to my muster station. I thought, "How bad to have a closed pool at sailaway".

To my horror, when I returned the pool was still opened, and people were swimming in it.

That was never proven. They only suspected that as never never found any evidence to support it.

Supposed to have a cover up.

Not only that but if they happen to be dripping wet, that could be a nightmare. Ecspecially with older cruisers.

I like all kinds of different cruise lines. For us, every cruise is gonna be a great vacation, because we make it great and never sweat the small stuff. Its almost like having a built in "ignore" button when it comes to certain people.

-_-

To be honest, this thread should probably be re-named "Humans, what happened?"

There doesn't seem to be much saving the human race anymore from becoming a mob of uncouth morons who are going to just destroy the world. I'm almost 40, I am officially jaded. Nothing will surprise me anymore.

If you call to guest services they can send other people, including officers - sometimes it can be an issue of simply not being aware of the problem.

As for the numbers, they are reduced fleet-wide; this isn't a new thing and you can find several threads on here. I have yet to be impacted by this because we still get our room cleaned 2xs a day, and productions shows aren't an issue. And while I have seen cutbacks in these areas, I also have to give CCL their props as you now get 4 comedians on a 7 day cruise with tons of shows, Alchemy, Guys, and Blue Iguana just to name a few. So in some respects, they have really stepped things up a notch, and not one of these things do I pay extra for (Alchemy drinks are the same cost as the other standard bar martinis).

As for why people had to behave that rude - you just got "one of those cruises." After DH and I had the "house arrest" couple and the giant midnight hall party on the Victory (4 day cruise) we said we would not take a short cruise with Carnival with the kids - luckily they weren't with us for this one because it was one GIANT over-the-top party.

Did it stop me from cruising Carnival? Absolutely not. I can't beat their costs when I have to travel with kids on limited break time and we get 2 rooms.

Have I quit taking short cruises with them? Nope! Did a 4 day to Canada last fall with another couple and had a blast. But again, my suspicions were confirmed - this was another GIANT party and IMHO that atmosphere is worse with the implantation of Cheers. People trying to max the program, making a massive run on Alchemy, and so intoxicated that on any street in my hometown they would have been arrested for Drunk In Public. It was so bad a woman came up to me, in a slurred voice asked me if I was with the man next to me (Yeah...that's my hubby) and then proceeded to go into a monologue about how she wasn't on the cruise with the guy she intended and was with another but would prefer to have sex my DH.:') TOTAL lack of class, but we KNEW that was what to expect and laughed it off; others might have been grossly offended. We drank more than usual ourselves- though by no means majorly impaired - because we tried Cheers! Glad I did - won't do it again. Not sure my liver has recovered yet!

And we even have decided, now that the youngest is a teen, that New Orleans warrants a visit and a 5 day cruise. My youngest is mature enough to handle anything inappropriate that he may inadvertently witness.

Now if you want me to be honest, I have made the following comparison all the time. In comparing our spring break and summer cruises, Carnival is the Walmart crowd, Princess the Target. I am not sure if that means anything to you. Both are fine stores to shop in and both serve the same basic purpose. You pay more at Target. But the quality of the product, and some of the clientele is a bit more upscale and classy. There are tons of people that have manners that shop at Walmart, and then there are those that are lacking in manners and show it in everything from their appearance (bedroom slippers are NOT appropriate outside your house!) to their conversation (the F-bomb does not belong in public). Can you find these people at Target? Sure. Are there numbers much reduced. Yep.

So, my advice is give Carnival at least one more try. Stay away from short cruises, and travel during summer, spring break and school holidays. Take at least a 7 day on one of the "newer" ships (Magic, Breeze, Dream or even Sunshine which is our fav) and go expecting it to be "the FUN ship." Don't "go" for the ship per se - we travel for the ports so pick new and exciting places. If you aren't willing to take that risk but want to stay in the family, Princess will honor your past guest with CCL - give them a try.

You hit a rowdy spring break cruise. Plain and simple. We have been on Glory multiple times in the past and zero issues like these. Where we had our issues was a 4 day Victory cruise - totally adult party ship. People holding hall parties at midnight and our neighbors under "arrest" with the door propped open and security outside one morning. In fact we have observed that the adults are often worse than the kids and even more so on a short cruise.

But as other posters have suggested, some of this you simply have to ignore. The 12-13 yo isn't yours and if he is drinking that is Carnival and his parents problem. Likewise with the woman and child in casino.

Some of it is controlling where you go and when. We almost always eat in MDR to avoid the lido - just don't care for the crowd. And if we go there, it is choice. And I am not going to worry about wet bathing suits etc.

The cigarette overboard is another issue and perhaps rather than worry about the dolphin, it might have been better to explain the fire hazard.

Lastly, on any of the serious issues, did you notify security or customer service? We have had to call a couple of times for various issues and always had a great response.

Amen to all of this! I seriously can't believe the poster was more worried about a dolphin that a fire on the ship :o!! That was the only issue I would have concerned myself with.
