rumbalizw Posted May 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2017 Here in the uk we never leave home without an umbrella. We also plan for all types of weather, as its so unpredictable. July should be lovely weather... but then again.... Sent from my iPhone using Forums
EndersFoul Posted May 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2017 I'd recommend a reusable foldable poncho or a dual-purpose wind breaker and rain jacket. We brought the foldable ponchos which are nice and fit in a small backpack or purse and cover your whole body- the U.K. can be windy, it was raining sideways one day on our cruise. Prepare for layers, think like going to the Pacific Northwest, always a chance of rain and a little chilly but generally nice.
skynight Posted May 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2017 We have gore tex rain shells with hoods which work great.
10-777 Posted May 9, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2017 In the U.K. you are born with a umbrella.

LondonTowner Posted May 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2017 As UK weather is unpredictable I prefer waterproof jackets with a hood rather than carry an umbrella. I have a 'pacamac' parka which is useful.
newport dave Posted May 9, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 9, 2017 If your cruise includes a stop in Wales, then just a FYI. It only rains in Wales when people visit. Sent from my VFD 900 using Tapatalk
easyboy Posted May 9, 2017 #10 Share Posted May 9, 2017 We pack rain poncho just in case. Doesn't take much space to handle. Sent from my iPad using Forums
john watson Posted May 9, 2017 #11 Share Posted May 9, 2017 July should be hot in the UK but not all the time. It will very likely rain, so a thin waterproof coat with hood is a good idea. You can wear warm clothing under this as an appropriate number of layers depending on the temperature. Regards John

hayley_bopp Posted May 10, 2017 #13 Share Posted May 10, 2017 As a native Brit, I'd recommend layers (expect the temperature to be anything between 13 to 30 degrees from one day to the next) and a lightweight, breathable waterproof outer layer. I'd take an umbrella on the cruise and then only take it ashore if rain is forecast. Here's hoping for fine weather fr you 🖒 Sent from my SM-G900F using Forums mobile app
flamomo Posted May 11, 2017 #14 Share Posted May 11, 2017 A lightweight waterproof hooded windbreaker is the better option. Juggling an umbrella in an area crowded with tourists can be difficult.
sinned19 Posted May 12, 2017 #15 Share Posted May 12, 2017 We did this cruise last July, wear layers.. a shirt with sweater is a must..also a rain jacket with a hood. The weather changes all the time. I`d say it was in the 60`s most of the time.we had collapsible umbrella in our backpack.
FirstCruiseBeth Posted May 12, 2017 #16 Share Posted May 12, 2017 A lightweight waterproof hooded windbreaker is the better option. Juggling an umbrella in an area crowded with tourists can be difficult. I agree. Personally I can't be bothered trying to manage an umbrella in wind or in crowds / shopping / trying to hold maps etc and then have a wet one to deal with when I get indoors again. I prefer to have the option of a hat or hood.
ToriaT Posted May 12, 2017 #17 Share Posted May 12, 2017 We are packing thin water resistant rain jackets with hood. They have little warmth. So we are packing a fleece type jacket as well. We can wear the fleece jackets alone or put it under the rain jacket which is more like a windbreaker. It can be chilly at sea and up in Orkney. We will also pack small umbrellas. DrivesLikeMario Posted May 12, 2017 #19 Share Posted May 12, 2017 A waterproof jacket with a hat is so much easier to deal with than an umbrella if you won't be outside for a long period of time.
casofilia Posted May 12, 2017 #20 Share Posted May 12, 2017 If it is RAINING then an umbrella would be no use at all. What might be rain to you is only drizzle to a Pom and drizzle just a Scotch Mist!!
