waterwatcher Posted May 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2017 I will be turning 70 years young in December 2018. I am looking for something nice to do to celebrate and there is a Journey Cruise from Baltimore (my home port) in January 2019. We are not wealthy but with 18 months to pay it off, I could probably swing it in one of the lower priced rooms. This would be a lot of money for us to spend! My question is: If you have taken a 2 week journey cruise do you feel it would be worth it for us to spend this kind of money on one trip or are there other suggestions for me. We do not fly so east coast is it for us and most of the one week cruises from here are to places we have already gone to. Thank you so much for any comments you give me.:)
evandbob Posted May 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2017 I've taken a few Journey Cruises, the one I liked the best was a 21 day B2B on the Glory. It started in Miami, did eastern itinerary, ended in San Juan after 10 days. Then the 2nd leg was an 11 day southern, ending back in Miami. Aside than the length and some not so frequent ports, there was little to distinguish the Journey cruises from a regular week long cruise. I was expecting different foods, but it was the American menu with port of call specials. If your 2 week cruise costs less than a B2B, I would do it. Remember on a 2 week Journeys cruise you will not return to a home port in the middle of it like you have on a B2B. It will seem like you have an extra port or sea day. Besides, how often do you turn 70? I say celebrate your youthfulness!
meatloafsfan Posted May 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2017 I love the Journey cruises. I've done a few and am booked for the 14 night on the Pride in January 2018 and I'm thinking about booking the Sunshine one in January 2019. They go to different ports than usual, you do get some crew connection activities, crafts, different evening shows, a throw back sea day featuring an old school midnight buffet, Captain's celebration and other events like horse racing and frog racing. You also get an opportunity to meet more of your fellow guests - it's just a different vibe on the Journey cruises. You'll also find more active roll calls on the Journey cruises - especially those on the Pride. These can lead to shared excursions, cabin crawls, casino slot pulls, and other arranged events. It's a great way to celebrate such a wonderful milestone!
aidee49 Posted May 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2017 There's also the possibility of the price going down. Sent from my Coolpad 3622A using Forums mobile app
Ms. Fun Bunch Posted May 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2017 I have been on 3 Journey Cruises and love them. I think they are worth the money in fact I am booked for this same cruise in 2019. I like the fact that it Ieaves and returns to Baltimore therefore no airfare and hotel needed since I live about 30 minutes from the Port.

Rare Jamman54 Posted May 9, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2017 Do they do the midnight buffet? Yes. They do it on the throwback sea day which includes a formal dinner night.

cocoaloco Posted May 9, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 9, 2017 :) Definitely do it... I have done two journeys cruises on the Pride - based in Baltimore, and it is great ! Wonderful crew and great ship.... Being of the Spirit Class it is distinctive. Go to the steakhouse on deck 10 and just look around. You will make friends and have a wonderful time !
USNUZULOOSE Posted May 10, 2017 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2017 May I ask , what is a journey cruise? Just in a nutshell. Never heard of it. Thank you
Keys2Heaven Posted May 10, 2017 #11 Share Posted May 10, 2017 We're doing a 14-day Journey cruise from Long Beach in Jan 2019. Going to Hawaii. Yes, not the best way to see the islands, but my wife loves being on a ship and this satisfies a couple of checkboxes.

Thank you so much for any comments you give me.:) I would price Ncl cruises that may have similar itineraries. If you get an oceanview or above you get free drinks and 50 dollars per room for shore excursion credit per port. I am a big fan of carnival with many fond memories but many of their cruises are running high in price without much perks. By not flying, im not sure what is available in baltimore other than carnival. My parents have done that cruise out of baltimore twice on the pride and loved it! Good luck! sfaaa Posted May 10, 2017 #15 Share Posted May 10, 2017 If the cruise will stress you out financially or put you in a tough situation, then no, it is not worth it.
vlynn Posted May 10, 2017 #16 Share Posted May 10, 2017 If you decide to book this cruise please join the roll call! We were on the 14 day cruise returning the Pride to Baltimore in 2015! Loved it! Love the Pride! :D
cruzeluver Posted May 10, 2017 #17 Share Posted May 10, 2017 Just as background, we are not cruise line loyalists and sail on several different ones. Of the Carnival cruise we have done, the Journeys cruise was far and away the best! Loved the longer itinerary, getting to hit a Caribbean island not frequently on itineraries anymore (Martinique), the "throwback sea day" was fun with some of the old school cruise activities. The midnight buffet was great as well. We would do another one in a heartbeat!

SadieN Posted May 10, 2017 #19 Share Posted May 10, 2017 On the Spirit class--- French Door Interior and Obstructed balcony cabins might be a good price. Ocean Views are also good. Look at the deck plan to see what's above you, no galley but might be some other loud things above. Also don't book to close to the disco (even side aft)
Taters Posted May 10, 2017 #20 Share Posted May 10, 2017 I love the Journeys cruises and have been on several. It is hard to go back to just 7 days once you have done 14! My favorite was 22 nights - B2B Mecixo/Hawaii on Miracle a few years ago.

We were lucky enough to snag one but not one of the coveted in between life boat rooms.
