Kiwi Kruzer Posted August 7, 2017 Author #253 Share Posted August 7, 2017 What are the highlights to see in Manta ? I imagine some pax will be leaving the ship for their Machu Picchu experience and rejoin in Lima. Some may even do a Galapagos trip? Heres the rest of the itinerary now they are through the Panama Canal and on the homeward leg. Tranquility Base Posted August 9, 2017 #255 Share Posted August 9, 2017 In Lima, afternoon of the 1st day. Currently in Miraflores. Yes, we had good weather for Panama, and we were some time in Miraflores Locks. The night departure from there was good, as was seeing the empty lock under maintenance. Panama City skyline was impressive at night. Enjoyed Cartagena, but was hot there. Manta tour was interesting and still many signs of last years big earthquake. Full day here tomorrow, then on Friday a Pisco tour for our short day there. Enjoying our Sea Princess time.

Rare MicCanberra Posted August 9, 2017 #258 Share Posted August 9, 2017 Lima dock is not a pretty one, reminds me of many others around the world and just like Brisbane's grain terminal, commercial with nothing nearby.

I wonder if they still have that big "craft market" in one of the sheds on the wharf. That was excellent. We bought the best souvenirs ever from there. All local craft, ( ie - nothing made in China;p).
Aus Traveller Posted August 9, 2017 #260 Share Posted August 9, 2017 I wonder if they still have that big "craft market" in one of the sheds on the wharf. That was excellent. We bought the best souvenirs ever from there. All local craft, ( ie - nothing made in China;p). We were there earlier this year and were disappointed that the wharf we were at had only half a dozen temporary stalls - not like the great craft market at another area of the docks. Rare MicCanberra Posted August 10, 2017 #261 Share Posted August 10, 2017 I suppose it just depends on which dock they have you at then.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted August 10, 2017 Author #262 Share Posted August 10, 2017 I suppose it just depends on which dock they have you at then. I had a look at Marine Traffic AIS as to where she was docked. It looks from the satellite shot that a lot of the old sheds have gone to make way for containers. By The Bay Posted August 11, 2017 #263 Share Posted August 11, 2017 We were informed last night, by the Captain, that we will not be going to San Martin due to the port being closed due to severe weather conditions. We are enjoying Lima for a 3rd day. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Forums mobile app

Sent from my GT-I9500 using Forums mobile app It is a pity you will miss the sail around Pitcairn. The locals don't have many opportunities to make money, but they do very well when ships call by. Rare MicCanberra Posted August 12, 2017 #267 Share Posted August 12, 2017 Bummer, I somehow missed that about Pitcairn. A shame for passengers and the locals alike.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted August 12, 2017 Author #268 Share Posted August 12, 2017 Thats a real shame. Pitcairn is a bucket list item and one thats rather hard and expensive to do on ones own. I was reading last week of some tourists who went there. They had to fly to Tahiti and then sail on the trading boat that visits the Island once a week . Out of the 12 that went only 2 could witness the arrival at Pitcairn as the others were too seasick. When we called , the Islanders came aboard but had to pack up hurriedly and leave at noon as a storm was brewing. Later we heard it took them 24 hours to get ashore in their longboat. Its a rugged life out there.

Well done to the Captain and crew for making it all happen. Now we have 5 sea day's before Tahitti. Glad you got ashore and enjoyed Easter Island. Yes tendering can be slow there. The boat harbour is more like a large rock pool ,but its serves the purpose.
