How does tendering work on RC ships?

Recommended Posts

We have a tender port on our next cruise and I'm just wondering how RC handles this. Have tendered on Carnival and NCL, but never Royal. Do you get a number in advance. . . everyone just shows up somewhere. . . is your C&A tier a factor, etc.

Thanks for any info.

On Liberty last week, tickets were required.

RCI purchased excursions included tender tickets, anything else you had to get your own.

There MAY have been some provided to Suite/Diamond guests, not sure.

We didn't tender, but there were tickets with LETTERS and others with NUMBERS. This MAY have determined if you used the Fore/Aft gangways, but not 100% on that. They started calling both letters and numbers, working from low to high. Once they got to 31, I think, they announced that tickets were no longer needed and anyone wanting to tender was able to go.

The tickets are a crowd control process, and access to the boarding decks was restricted to currently called ticket holders early.

Ticketed tendering was done in about 2 hours.

Tier is not a factor, RCI excursion usually go first, then everyone else, most of the time without any tickets -just line up. Suites can cut the line.

Anthem in Bar Harbor, Maine

We have tendered twice into Bar Harbor but it was off of Jewel and Brilliance. They both used their lifeboat tenders but Brilliance had also leased tour boats to tender for the day since it was anchored farther out since there was another ship in port. Both times we were among the first to tender and just lined up.

We have tendered to Coco Cay on Anthem and that was crazy. There were tender tickets and the numbers went up over 50. They were still calling numbers after noontime. They tendered from two different locations on the ship, so you needed to listen to where you were supposed to go and people were not using their listening skills that day.

Can you choose a tender ticket time slot if you're not doing a cruise line sponsored excursion? We're sailing Liberty and booked a stingray excursion in grand cayman with another company.

Where and when do you get the tender tickets?

Again, on Liberty last week, yes, with proof of purchase of an excursion.

In GC, you simply let the 1st 2 tenders go..then get on the next one. It's not a huge crowd thing like you are thinking. Many folks are NOT in a hurry to go ashore. Ship excursions (early ones) go first....if you just have a bit of patience, you will be off in no time.

Bar Harbor, Maine

Tendering is usually quite the PITA

Bar harbor is often skipped due to fog and heavy surf. I have yet to get there..*sigh* someday. some people yearn for CoCo Cay, I yearn for Bar Harbor....

gold sea pass holders can grab the first tender after all ship's sponsored excursions are away. when and where the numbers are distributed can vary and Status is not a factor here. it usually is not too long before they announce open boarding

Anthem gets pretty backed up. On our Feb. trip that included tendering at CoCo Cay, they started handing out tenders at 7 a.m. and we didn't get ours until 9. We not on the island until about 1. Go early if you want to get off quickly, for sure.

Good to know. We have a 12:30 activity planned. Do you by any chance know what time tendering begins?
