scotlady Posted June 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Hi, Booked a Christmas cruise on Liberty out of Galveston. I wanted a handicap accessible cabin for my son, but the only one available was 2633, right by the elevator on deck 2. Just wondering about noise levels and such. I don't think they'll mind the late night noise, as they will be up partying themselves, but might not be so happy about early mornings. Could anyone who has stayed in a cabin right by the elevators let me know what their experiences were? Thanks!
Clarea Posted June 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Never had any issues with noise from the elevator lobby on Voyager/Freedom/Oasis class ships.
payitforward Posted June 19, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2017 I always get as close to the elevator as possible, and have stayed in the accessible cabins as well. You don't hear them because they are really set more towards the center of the ship - away from the cabins. The only people coming your way will be those who have cabins on that side of the ship. maryjaden Posted June 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2017 I love cabins near the elevators. We have never had any noise issues and very convenient.

However, I would think deck 2 should be less of an issue as only people wanting to go to that deck. do so as opposed to using the hallways to avoid the promenade or casino. cb at sea Posted June 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 19, 2017 The elevators and stairs are in a foyer, apart from the cabin hall...noise isn't an issue.

Rare firegal2539 Posted June 19, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 19, 2017 All handicapped cabins are close to the elevators, not all, but most. I always asked for an accessible cabin by the elevator, it seems everything is much closer when you are near them. I have never had a problem with noise because you still have to move away from the elevator banks and go either right or left to get the cabin hallways, so there is a little distance and very little noise. I get more noise from kids who are allowed to run up and down the hallways.
slyster Posted June 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 19, 2017 We have gotten hump cabins which are close to the elevators. I have only had one regret. I had a cabin that as you opened the door, opened to the opening leading to the elevator. So folks walking from the elevator to our hall way would be right in front of me if I opened the door. This happened a couple of times and startled me LOL They would turn left or right but the opening was right in front of our cabin door LOL! ETA: and this was on Liberty! JAMESCC Posted June 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 19, 2017 We have been on 6 cruises, 7th this year and to be honest we have rarely had noise anywhere we were on the ship and we have been everywhere. Near an elevator, farther away, high up in the ship, lower in the ship and really very rarely had issues with noise outside our door. EmilyJay Posted June 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 19, 2017 We had a room by the elevator on Oasis of the seas a few months back, no problems with noise at any time of the day/night/morning. Just booked another cruise and looked for a room close to elevators as we liked the location.
Desm Posted June 19, 2017 #14 Share Posted June 19, 2017 A few years ago we had a cabin on Carnival Spirit that was beside and went behind the aft elevators, meaning that we had a common wall with the back of the elevator shaft. It was a great oversized cabin and we had zero noise from the elevators, naturally you get a bit more foot traffic outside your door but we found this cabin to be great with no noise problems at all. You also have the advantage of good access to the stairs and lift, in our case it was up one level to the buffet and down a few levels to the MDR. popoki1 Posted June 20, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 20, 2017 We sailed on the NCL Jewel in May. We had a balcony next to the elevators and we didn't heard anything. Was great having the elevator so close.

(8340) I wanted to add to my post but it was too late to edit. I have had a few hump cabins and the only time I have ever heard anything from inside the cabin was on the radiance class ships because of the centrum. But I could BARELY hear it and only from right inside the door. I couldn't hear anything from the bed. I love the convenience of the proximity to the elevators. I just wouldn't want a cabin that opens right to the opening/walkway to the elevators.

crosby99 Posted June 20, 2017 #19 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Always try and get near an elevator it is the only thing that makes me choose 1 cabin over another....much easier to bring drinks back to the cabin without dropping them :D
Snit13 Posted June 20, 2017 #20 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Almost every cruise we book is as close to the elevator as possible. So much easier to come and go. Great cabins on Celebrity Solstice class ships just off elevator. Our favorite. Booked the last Boardwalk cabin on Oasis and by time we walked to Diamond Lounge we really needed a drink. When you are a super senior citizen you want to be near the elevator and Diamond Lounge.
molsonschooner Posted June 21, 2017 #21 Share Posted June 21, 2017 We try to book a cabin near the elevators. DW has some health issues, the walk from the elevators to the room is about as far as she likes to walk. We have never experienced any noise Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

sailaway1001 Posted June 22, 2017 #23 Share Posted June 22, 2017 My husband is also handicapped and the first time we booked a handicapped room and saw it was by the elevator I was very nervous. At a hotel you hear that dinging all night long. Not on a cruise ship! We've taken a bunch of cruises on Princess and the handicapped rooms are right at the lobby/elevator area and you hear NOTHING in the room. I am a very light sleeper plus noise annoys me anyway! I'm sure it's the same with other cruise lines. It will be just fine. Have a great trip.

The only bad thing is while they did make a couple of suites they put them half way down the hall. All handicapped cabins are close to the elevators, not all, but most.
