Astro Flyer Posted July 7, 2017 #26 Share Posted July 7, 2017 that's sure true. years ago in the restaurant business we were told if your experience was good, you'll tell one person. people with poor experiences will complain to 10 others. That's very true about any sort of opinions...the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Being a somewhat seasoned cruiser, I use a seasoned grain of salt to decide what I think about posted opinions. ;p We're discussing fun cruises that many people never get to experience so I much prefer humor to anger. ;)

Potstech Posted July 7, 2017 #28 Share Posted July 7, 2017 "Lot's of people did not like the fact that the ship was Asian themed so I would say a little racism was a float......" When in doubt and without all the information just use the fallback of "its racism". Seems to be getting to be a standard reply in many places these days. Wonder why?
OceanPrince Posted July 8, 2017 #29 Share Posted July 8, 2017 Most Cruise Critic members are long-time cruise fans who are use to certain things in certain ways. When a new ship comes along, they always focus on what's wrong and never on what's right. They will complain endlessly about no outside deck 7 but ignore the fact that the buffet is 100 times better. I was on the Majestic in May after previously sailing on Royal and Regal each twice. Almost everyone I asked loved the ship. Personally, I can not imagine going back to any non-Royal class ship. In fact, I'm waiting for a Royal class to come to west coast before doing another Alaska or Coastal. Majestic did do some things that will irk western cruisers (no Prego's pizza!, too much space for casino and high end shops and not enough bars (no crooners), etc but I'll take it over the older ships any day. martin jenkins Posted July 8, 2017 #30 Share Posted July 8, 2017 were on the majestic next sept from sydney and looking forward to it, doesn't bother me if it is asian themed, you get people on Facebook saying the boat sucks but when you ask them why they don't reply. Personally I would not want to take a Royal class ship to Alaska. The standard Alaska ports are already overcrowded. And being there on a ship such as the Island Princess (2214 lower berth capacity) has to be a better port experience than being there on a ship with 3560 lower berth capacity. Not true....but nice try....there were many comments frequently, especially at dinner, about supposedly how the Asians were plugging the toilets, how the ship would be destroyed when it got to China, how the Asians crammed the elevators....we heard people called "Chinamen" by other passengers in a derogatory way....it was alive and well.....IMHO it was a major reason why some of the WASPs from US, Canada and Australia did not like the ship......:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Griller Posted July 8, 2017 #34 Share Posted July 8, 2017 As a general rule, people who are dissatisfied for whatever reason are far more likely to voice an opinion than those that are satisfied. Thus the pool of people reviewing is likely to be skewed disproportionately than not. Sent from my iPad using Forums And yet I am saying I was satisfied with Majestic and dissatisfied with Crown so I don't think I am skewing the results oh and Crown just failed the sanitation inspection so that isn't good. That's not a matter of opinion but is fact. Or can you put cheerleader spin on that? I cannot.

Its very common on all Princess ships now to have a large percentage of Asian passengers, they have really taken to cruising in a big way.

Rare Woobstr112G Posted July 8, 2017 #37 Share Posted July 8, 2017 I have good friends who've sailed on the Regal who looked forward to an Asian themed cruise. While they enjoyed the Majestic's Dubai to Singapore cruise, they would not sail the Majestic again & it had nothing to do with racism. They're very objective & have taken other cruises around Asia so they looked forward to the Majestic. For them changes made to venues such as Crooners (La Mer restaurant) & Club 6 (VIP Gaming) and the Vista Lounge (Vista Gaming Lounge) diminished their cruise experience. Like other posts I've read, La Mer the French restaurant was poorly located with a steady stream of passengers walking past the open area & at those prices the menu didn't appeal to them. Replacing Gelato's with more high-end shops was another degradation for their cruise experience. They greatly enjoyed to Asian themed show & the ports. While they said the ship was okay they have no plans to cruise again on the Majestic but they don't participate on CC including posting reviews. They cruised expecting to have a great cruise but didn't love it enough to sail the Majestic again unless the itinerary & price were great. Too often reviews that result in such low ratings are unreasonable rants by passengers who didn't research what to expect & then vent their anger. Particularly anything different is more likely to be poorly reviewed which happened to the Royal but the nearly identical Regal received better ratings. I agree that the CC reviews are primarily from North American & European passengers who are not the core demographic for the Majestic. That skews the ratings & as has been said...take any reviews with a grain of salt! Perfectly stated sir.....:):):) Bob
casavaha Posted July 8, 2017 #38 Share Posted July 8, 2017 We were on the Majestic, Rome to Singapore. The ship has a lot of drawbacks, no crooners, no gelato bar., A logo shop that did not even have t-shirts with the ships name and ship info. I will predict that before the ship goes to Australia it will undergo a major drydock, with many changes. The music was good in the Piazza with Randy Heddon quartet and Evolution. But that was it. The Hollywood Conservatory reeked of clorine from the pool and there were really no quiet areas on the entire ship. Since I paid for the cruise I feel that I can criticize the ship. I do not like the Royal Class ships but at least the Royal and Regal have crooners and some quiet areas on the ship. The staff was first rate and the food in the dining room was very good although they were repeating the the menus as often as every 5 days. I would go on this same cruise in a minute, but not on the Majestic. Greg

I do not think there will be major changes when the ship goes to Australia: a) It will be in Australia during the Chinese winter. It will be back in China again for the Chinese summer. b) The Australia voyages are also being marketed in China and it is likely the Australia voyages will have significant numbers of Chinese on them. As far as the Hollywood Conservatory is concerned, the same problem exists in the Conservatory above a pool on the Grand, Golden and Star.
jefa Posted July 9, 2017 #40 Share Posted July 9, 2017 I was on the Majestic cruise Athens to Athens through the greek islands and thoroughly enjoyed both the ship and the itinerary. Although the ship is too big for me, and according the the officers who came to our M and G, it was full, there was always somewhere quiet to sit, huge outside smoking areas, plenty of room in the World Marketplace and always seats in the theatre to watch the nightly entertainment. Daily entertainment was good and the last nights show was spectactular. Dancing to the "Beatles" in the Piazza one night was a highlight. Food in the MDR was good, and staff attentive. I had the AIBP which wasn't a good idea as the cruise was so port intensive, but always found a seat at Bellini's, served by the wonderful Joanne, who remembered my name and drink from the very first day. My cabin was fine, and I liked the fact that there are european plugs and USB's, the bed was nice and my steward great. The shower seemed bigger than other Princess ships I have cruised on, though I didn't like the placing of the toilet roll holder! I read in one review that there were no "sales" on board. Well I went to two and found T shirts etc, also there were the usual fridge magnets, keyrings etc for sale. The one thing that did bother me was that the cabin doors had to be slammed for the lock to work properly. Would I sail her again, yes I would, she is a very pretty ship. casavaha Posted July 9, 2017 #41 Share Posted July 9, 2017 There were no t shirts that had the name of the ship on the front and ships info on back. I talked with the mgr. of the shops and he said no shirts were ordered. As to the clorine smell, on the grand class ships the roof can be opened whereas on the Majestic the roof is closed. I personally would sail the same cruise but on the Sapphire, which I consider a much more enjoyable ship. You can't beat the wake bar for a quiet place.
