davecttr Posted August 9, 2017 #26 Share Posted August 9, 2017 The OP asked how would Brexit impact on cruising. Brexit is all about politics so we can't really discuss it in isolation. Sorry. If you read the doom mongers in the national press and the BBC none of us will be able to afford to cruise anyway and it won't be long before P&O start retiring ships. Realistically we will notice little difference imo though there will probably be a few difficult years until things settle in. Might well be some cruise bargains, who knows. David We can discuss the possible effects of brexit on cruising but we should not be expressing personal opinions on whether brexit was a good idea or not. davecttr Posted August 9, 2017 #27 Share Posted August 9, 2017 I think that you will find the pound recovering somewhat once the dust settles. Brian Or it could fall even lower, no one knows which way until it happens. A lower pound means Carnival get less dollars from their P&O operation. To counter this they have to make savings or increase fares or both.
majortom10 Posted August 9, 2017 #28 Share Posted August 9, 2017 I think that you will find the pound recovering somewhat once the dust settles. Brian Even the Governor of the Bank of England and top money men in the UK do not know that so I assume it is just wishful thinking and hope on your part. PORT ROYAL Posted August 9, 2017 #29 Share Posted August 9, 2017 We can discuss the possible effects of brexit on cruising but we should not be expressing personal opinions on whether brexit was a good idea or not. There should be little effect on cruising the Baltics, if the EU pay our "non-divorce" bill for the UK's huge physical, and financial, contributions to EU's security, intelligence, defence etc. The EU's failure to pay could leave the Baltic states borders with the Russia a little vulnerable, if we pull the plug. yorkshirephil Posted August 9, 2017 #30 Share Posted August 9, 2017 If common sense prevails there should be minimal disruption or change as no one will want to do anything to lose money. If security needs beefing up then so be it. We will just have to wait and see.
