Boardwalk balcony perks & formal attire

Cruising on the Allure of the Seas Oct. 8th. frequent cruiser but its been awhile since we have been on RCCL.

The description of our Boardwalk Balcony cabin online has

Enjoy DINE • DRINK • DISCOVER exclusive amenities available only to Boardwalk guests including a complimentary meal for four at Johnny Rockets®, soda packages for two and a rock climbing session for the whole family. Do we really get these perks?

How fancy does everyone dress for the formal nights? can you post photos of examples? Many long dresses or mostly cocktail knee length?

I have choices but just not sure what to pack.

What nights are the 'cruise dressy' nights on the Western itinerary?

Thanks for any help!

The "formal" nights are no longer required...simply suggested. You will see everything from a few gowns to cocktail dresses, sun dresses, and probably shorts....no worries if you don't want to bring your "finery"! If you do want to dress up...go for it!

Night 2 is ALWAYS the 1st formal night...the 2nd will be night 5 or 6.

We didn't use the rock climbing, but did get the soda packages and JR meals on Allure in January.

I had a Grand Suite on the Allure which was an outward facing balcony. Great room, but once I hung out in the boardwalk balcony room with some friends, I was SUPER jealous! Also the Central Park balcony rooms were excellent as well. You're going to love your balcony! I found that when the ship was moving, I spent no time on my balcony but theirs was still usable during that time. If you lucked out, some of the rooms have oversized balconys compared to others, based on where they are positioned in the ship, but these usually get reserved first by those who know.

Cocktail dresses are just fine for formal night. You can get away with a maxi dress and accessories pretty easily too. I wouldn't stress about it. There WILL be people dressed to the nines and with tuxedos, but this is getting rarer and rarer.

Gee, thanks! we got a balcony that is 5 rooms from the back of the ship. We figure we can watch Ocean-aria and movies and still see a bit of the ocean.

If you look at the top row on my signature photo. Our room is the fifth from left.

The Boardwalk Balcony soda package is only for 2 people in a cabin. From what I have read, it is the first two people on the reservation, so if the kids are occupants 3 and 4, it won't apply to them. There have been complaints in that in some cases the parents were the first two passengers and also purchased the Alcohol package which entitled them to the soda also. They tried to change the soda package to their kids instead and met resistance from the ship. I don't know if that is still happening as when we had a Boardwalk balcony we only had 2 occupants in the cabin.

For the "formal" nights most people were dressed nicely with few men wearing suits or even sports jackets. When we were waiting for a table with our My Time Dining, most men that I saw were wearing dress shirts and dress pants with or without ties. I did not see any golf shirts etc.

Women were dressed in nice dresses, albeit not overly fancy or in dress slacks and fancy tops. I didn't see anyone with shorts or what I would consider inappropriate dress, but then again, I only looked around for a few minutes while waiting.

Just jumping onto this thread instead of starting a new one- The Eat-Drink-Play for central park/boardwalk- there was no mention of this for me when booking and it isnt on the UK RCI website. Is this just something for those who book from the states? We have booked a central park cabin and it would be nice to have those little perks!

We had those perks for our Boardwalk cabin on our May 14 sailing. We didn't use the rock climbing pass. On the formal nights, I saw some women in evening gowns and cocktail dresses. I had a maxi dress and a knee length dress that I dressed up with some jewelry and a light cardigan (the AC was sometimes a little too cool for me). Most of the men wore shirts and ties; some wore jackets as Katiel53 mentioned above.

I found this on RCI UK site....it specifically mentions Harmony but EDP does apply to all Oasis ships. The UK site is rubbish!!!

"Eat, Drink, Play benefits for Balcony Staterooms overlooking Central Park and the Boardwalk

From November 2016, families holidaying on Harmony of the Seas – and staying in Balcony Staterooms overlooking the Central Park or Boardwalk – will be treated to a range of benefits. Not only will Central Park guests have great views of the lush, tropical park below, but they’ll get to enjoy a complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival, lunch for two at Jamie’s Italian and special perks in the Casino Royale, so you can relax while the kids are at our onboard kid’s club. Boardwalk guests will look out over the nostalgic neighbourhood, and will receive lunch or dinner for four at Johnny Rockets and a private session on our 38-foot-tall RockWall."

From Royal's packing list:

Onboard attire...

When you're onboard, the right look will vary by venue. But here are a few types of suggested attire you'll see, grouped by item.

Casual: You're on vacation – relax! Jeans, polos, sundresses and blouses are all the right amount of laid back. Please keep swimwear to the Pool Deck. Shorts are welcomed for breakfast and lunch.

Smart Casual: Think of this as a step up from your typical dinner wear. Dress to impress with collared shirts, dresses, skirts and blouses, or pantsuits. Jackets, sports coats and blazers are snazzy and welcomed.

Formal: Make it a night out in your best black-tie look – suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns.

Please note that bare feet are not allowed at any time in any venue and tank tops are not permitted in the Main Dining Room or Specialty Dining venues for dinner.

These are dress "suggestions". Some will strictly adhere to these.....many will not.

We just got off the Oasis yesterday.

We saw mostly slacks and casual collared shirts for men. Formal nights were a sprinkling of tux, a few suits, but mostly slacks and either dress shirts or nice florals shirts.

Ladies wore mostly slacks and tops and sun dresses. Formal night...a few gowns, slacks with sparkly tops or a dress.

Everyone we saw were neatly dressed but very few were over the top formal.
