I would just like to say that I love Princess! We took our first Princess cruise in April (European Capitals) and it was wonderful, just wonderful. I thought I didn't love cruising before but Princes made me really love it and we have two booked within the next year now. DH and I are empty nesters now and finally able to travel and really afford it. With 4 kids it just wasn't possible for many reasons before. Now we are 6 grandkids in and so loving our travels and working our way to Elite on Princess! I seriously check the Princess site daily for possible bookings. It's not that my job is stressful or anything. I just need that quick distraction daily! :')

Coffeeluvr05...Princess continues to provide us with our best cruise experience for an affordable price. It's better for us than other comparable cruise lines we've sailed.

We continue to research other similar cruise lines but haven't found one that is better for us. :D

HI must say I agreed, our TA asked us lots of question about things we like and not like and she suggested princess could be the one for us.

Well we were happy little campers on our first cruise, could not have been better, tick all the boxes, to the point we have booked our next cruise.

And now after reading all the comments and this forum it has confirmed, that we couldn't do better with out holiday dollar to go on princess.

I must admit, we went on the golden in an aft suite, after two seas day we were sold, the breakfasts, the cocktails at skywalkers, and speciality dinning. We were over the moon, until the "d"' came it was hard to leave,

when we dropped my mum off for the same cruise two months later. it was too much see the ship again, so we had to book another cruise and we can't wait to get back on board.

Cheers Don thinking of a G&T at skywalkers.

Couldn't agree more. We have been trying some other lines since we hit Platinum on Princess just to see what else is out there. While I wouldn't mind cruising on any of them, we haven't found a "home" quite like Princess. I couldn't be more excited about our December cruise to Mexico, it will be our first Princess cruise in 18 months, and I think I'm going through withdrawals!

I was very happy to read this. We are making the switch to Princess after years of going on Carnival. When taking the kids Carnival was a great cost effective choice. But now with it being just the 2 of us we wanted a little more. We'll get to try our first Princess cruise next March.

Yes, always feel that way onboard.

I think you are going to love it! I haven't been on carnival but I assume it is similar to Royal Caribbean in many respects. I LOVE my grandchildren but oh my goodness there were a lot of kids n our RC cruises and we just prefer there to be less kid activity now unless we are with the grandkids. And one thing that really upset my DH is that the soft serve machine was broken nearly the entire trip on RC. It was something he had looked forward to and it was such a disappointment. I guess that could happen on any ship.

Anyway, enjoy your cruise!!!

Princess is the reason we cruise. I didn't want to cruise. Ever. I absolutely, positively knew I would hate everything about cruising. I finally gave in and told my wife I would do one cruise to make her happy. We sailed on Princess. Done deal. Hooked.

I know some folks who took their first cruise and were done after that. They will never sail again. They went on a Caribbean cruise with Carnival during Spring Break. D'Oh! I'm glad we started with Princess.

Hi Thrak, couldn't agreed more, we never even considered a cruise, my mum been on lots, most of my relations have been on cruises. To us the only ship ( well a ferry the size of Azamara ships) was the spirit of Tasmania with 14 return trip across bass strait.

Then we did our cruise on the golden which made my mum very happy,

then we booked our second and are thinking about a third one already.

cheers Don

Nice to read about another happy Princess cruiser. I have cruised Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and Carnival. I prefer Princess but did really enjoy some of the older Royal Caribbean ships. I think I have to try Celebrity at least once. I read that board frequently but end up seeing things that slightly deter me. But, I will try them one day.

What "more" does Princess have over Carnival?

I'm asking because I'm taking my first Princess cruise in October (28 days). I've been on Costa, HAL, NCL, and Carnival, with my last two cruises on Carnival. What I have come to like for evening entertainment (rely on, really) on Carnival is the dedicated comedy club and the festive, participatory piano bar. Princess has neither of those, and I admit that I'm a bit anxious at having committed to a 28-day cruise!

The other aspects of cruising that stand out for me are: a good (and affordable) thermal suite; I'm not interested in specialty dinning (I'm vegan, and "specialty" equates to fancy meat & seafood, and dairy-rich sauces); oh, and I love trivia, though I'm not especially good at it!

For us more is: Ocean Medalion, fridge in every cabin and better west coast itineraries.

I agree that the comedy shows on Carnival will be missed but we tend to spend more time in the casino than at shows. So not as big a loss for us.

The overall vibe seems to fit our style better. Not to say we will never sail on Carnival again (going on a quickie in Nov) but looking for a something different as our cruising needs have changed with becoming empty nesters.

Hopefully you will like Princess but it will be quite a change from Carnival. Older demographic. Slower pace. Different type of cruise without the party crowd. There won't be any rock climbing walls, wave riders, belly flop contests, etc. We love Princess but some may find it a bit "staid" or "sedate" if they are used to a more active group of cruisers. There will be fewer tattoos, and I don't think I've ever heard anybody using the "F" word on a Princess cruise. (I'm sure it must happen but I haven't heard it.) I've never seen anybody puke on a Princess cruise but again, I'm sure it has happened.

I don't have anything against Carnival and I know it's the preferred line for many. It would be a sad place if all people or all cruise lines were alike. I don't know your ages but hopefully you and NerdPaul will have a great cruise. See you onboard. :D

I know your comment was for another user, but I just thought I'd share my perspective. First off, I've never been on Carnival. I've only been on Royal Caribbean. I liked my previous cruises for the most part, but only went because they were big family trips. It was fun, but overall very hectic and way too peopley for me. I am a homebody and it takes a pretty posh hotel to get me to leave my nice home and comfortable tempurpedic bed (lol). I prefer seclusion and peace & quiet when I vacation. I need to recharge and that's how I do it. I have no interest in a party atmosphere whatsoever. Going on Princess was a fluke. We were planning a trip with our parents and we just started searching based on itineraries and Princess had one and the price was right. It was actually really good! Then the parents dropped out and we decided to go anyway. Best decision ever. I may not have ever cruised again had I not taken this trip. Princess was the laid back, relaxing, quiet if I wanted it, amazing trip! Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge music lover so I did enjoy the live music and watching people dance. I also loved the production shows and was kind of wowed by the talent on board. We loved the food in Club Class and really just had a grand time.

We are all very different and my reason for loving Princess may be exactly the reason someone else hates it. This is just my perspective.

Cruising is the best cure for Empty Nest Syndrome! We moved our son into his dorm, then took off for Italy. I don't know what I would've done if we didn't have the Med. cruise to distract me.

Now I use the excuse that we need to travel now while we're still relatively young and agile! Traveling is hard on you physically and mentally. By the time we're "old", we'll just want to sit on a ship and never get off. :D

Thanks for the replies all!

Maybe it's the itins I've been on, or where I spend my time on the ship, but with the exception of a 3-day Ensenada cruise 20 years ago, I don't experience Carnival as the party boat of its reputation. I don't spend time on deck in the throng of people, so am basically ignorant of those activities Thrak mentioned. I've not been on RCL, and have never been tempted (sounds way too peopley for me too, Coffee!).

Speaking of "peopley", the upcoming Princess cruise is on the Emerald (no Ocean Medallion yet), which is a 3,000+ passenger capacity, which seems HUGE to me! I've mostly stuck with the 1,800-2,200 capacity ships. The videos of the public areas of the ship make them look small and intimate, but with 3,000+ people, I can't imaging how they could be...

To answer your question, Thrak, NerdPaul and I are in our 50s. And older demographic, especially if that means fewer kids, is not a problem. I'm also hoping that translates into fewer trivia questions on popular culture and current music :-)
