Le Bistro: Escargot or mussels as an appetizer

buffet: pretzel rolls

La Cucina: Osco Bucco

O'sheehans: wings and fish and chips

Can't speak for the Star... but my husband and I both became obsessed by the tomato soup served in the MDR. They do it on the lunch menu and occasionally in the evening. We go to the MDR for lunch for the main purpose of tomato soup! Also the red velvet white chocolate mousse in the MDR... omg.

The fish and chips in O'Sheenans is wonderful. It is a small portion so if two people are ordering order three servings and each eat 1 1/2 servings.

That was my favorite too! But not on the new menu. Replaced with brownie ice cream sundae. Sooooo sad.

LeBistro: Mushroom Soup and the Escargot

Moderno: Lamb Chops, the cheddar rolls, and basically the entire salad bar

Cagneys: Filet with chimichurri, Oreo Cheesecake (thought it was gone, but reappeared!), Truffle Fries

MDR: crab cake appetizer is good (dinner), watermelon/mint/feta salad (lunch), spaghetti carbonara (dinner), hummus appetizer (lunch)

Buffet: If you like Indian food, the curries are usually quite good

We are going on our first NCL cruise this winter and this discussion has prompted a couple questions:

 

Is it common among the NCL ships to have different items on the menus for the same venues?

And are escargots only offered in an up-charged dining venue?

The only place I saw the escargot offered was at LeBistro, which is an upcharge restaurant.

 

I was very happy we did the dining as our "freebie" as our meals in the MDR were fine, but usually not exceptional. At the specialty restaurants, they were exceptional.

 

I was also disappointed at how many things were missing from the MDR menus, just based on menus I had read over and over again before our trip. I had planned not to eat at the buffet at all, but ended up there, mostly for lunch, because the lunch menu was so limited.

As I stated earlier, I loved the ribeye at Cagney's; also the raspberry creme brûlée was amazing. We ate at Cagney's twice on our shortened cruise.

Don't know if they still have it...but the main dining rooms had a beef slider with sriracha slaw, as an appetizer. Yum!!

On ships with new menu, lamb chops in La Cucina are to die for. Best on ship. And no more rack of lamb in Le Bistro.
